It is an alms given for Goddess Pattini.
There is a strong belief that with the help of Goddess Pattini, young children, pregnant mothers and women who are expecting children will be protected.
This alms giving is mostly done in homes with a Buddhist background. Giving alms to breastfeeding mothers will improve the family and remove the dangers caused by demons, ghosts etc.
Special occasions to hand over an alms to breastfeeding mothers are,

*Seek protection for children
*When looking for children
*In farming
*For the betterment of the family
How to choose breastfeeding mothers?
The choice of breastfeeding mothers should be made very carefully, and it is essential that the women represented by the Pattini mothers be very principled and religious.
It is generally believed that this alms should be completed before the ravens hatch. The alms giving of the nursing mothers begins at about five o'clock in the morning and is completed in forty-nine minutes.
