Raising Goats: Our Daily Goat Routine

  • Hi there! 👋🏻 We live on a 1-acre farm right in the middle of the busy city of Phoenix, Arizona! Our names are Kevin & DaNelle, and we moved here in 2009, when our kids Ethan & Lydia were just 6 & 4 years old 🥰 Over the years we've raised goats for milk, chickens for eggs, built a fish/swim pond, planted fruit & nut trees, and grew a large garden full of veggies. We've also raised a bunch of other animals like pigs, sheep, turkeys, geese, peacocks, and more!
Now that our kids are away at college, we have settled into doing what we love most -- which is raising & breeding goats ethically to improve genetics. But don't worry, we'll forever love our goofy pet goats like Luna the herd queen & Willow the stump lover. We also still love raising chickens for eggs, gardening, tending to the fruit & nut trees, and growing fish in the pond. We use the fresh goat's milk to make cheese, butter, yogurt -- and we use that + everything else we harvest on our little farm to make delicious meals. Having a getaway from the busy world right in our backyard brings so much joy to us each day, and we hope it brings some to you, too. 🥰

A few days ago I found your channel and I'm enjoying it very much. My husband thinks I'm crazy. I've been watching non stop. I don't know how to get them in order,so there all over the place. That's okay. I'd like to know were your financial income comes from. And Lydia is such a lovely child. I am impressed with her work ethic. She's seems like she's very happy and loves what she's doing. She has been a joy to watch. Thanks, back to surfing your channel.

lol you were the main influencer in us buying goats...we bought our first last year, she was supposed to be pregnant and wasn't (just a major case of bloat that we helped her with.) We bought her companion who was supposed to be pregnant...and wasn't. The lady we bought the 2nd one from allowed us to bring her back at the beginning of this year for free to re-breed and it looks like it finally took so she's due in August! Thanks for the inspiration, we (I'm stretching it on the hubbys part) love our goats!

I see Luna has only milk in one side here. How do you prevent that? Our Nigerian just had a baby and he is favoring only one side. I haven’t started milking yet but when I put her on the stand this morning to get her used to it, I noticed that one side is very full and the other is not. Should I milk her on that one side since he isn’t eating on that side? Baby is only 4 days old.

Do you still have Luna? I had a Doe kid and she had twins. None of these homesteading videos from any of my favorite folks talked about what happens when twins favor one udder. Very hard to find info on that. As well as Mastitis. A how to prevent mastitis would be a good video. How to detect mastitis and where to find test kits for mastitis. Also how to cure it. I’ll keep looking….
