I asked her to give me an example and she'd give me some black historian who in my opinion made this up. I told her after looking in all my books I could find no reference to a black African who was a Viking. Anywhere in the history. I did say I did find it one Arab who went up to the Viking lands in the 10th century and he observed a Viking funeral and wrote about it. It was a rather famous extract. I'm honestly shocked they even went with Yasuke and didn't just make their own character. That said, stopped caring for AC after Origins came out for many reasons, so this doesn't surprise or affect me anyway.
And either way, since when do we play as the historical character in AC games, instead of someone else who is surrounded by actual historical figures? Out of all the millions of people in Japan at the time, they chose to have a main character who was literally one in over 10 million, and who most likely indeed was not a samurai at all.

I see so many people arguing over whether he was a retainer or a samurai. IT DOES NOT MATTER. He is there as a token to score points, just like they have made the female character look like a man with a flat chest, huge jawline, small eyes, etc. The motives were toxic so whether he was a samurai in real life is irrelevant. Even as funny as it is for them to think a xenophobic feudal Japan lord would ever have made a black foreigner a samurai.
By biggest, I'm assuming he was referring to the production cost:presumed lack of sales ratio. I still love playing the AC games despite the cringe. I have a bit of an expert on Vikings I've written a couple books on the subject. I read back to her that I did not know of any black Vikings assuming she meant African. She said that it was absolutely true that blacks from Africa used to go on Viking raids with Viking ships rather frequently and it was common knowledge. She never wrote back but now here we are 25 years later and they're putting into practice their bogus theories of blacks being Japanese Vikings Europeans and every other culture they're trying to supplant us for some reason.
