I got my first Sergio Mendes and Brazill 66 album from Columbia Record Club in 1966. The album featured Mas Que Nada which I thought was a fabulous song. In 1968 they issued another album which included Fool on the Hill and Scarborough Fair. Both songs featured their classic vocal harmonies back by a catchy Latin beat. Today, these albums are at the top of my list of "Guilty Pleasures". R.I.P. Sergio and thank you for your music.
Gosh John you boggle me every time. Between the EMT preamp, your beautiful and strange records, and of course those life goal speakers you make, I want to fly to NYC and buy you a great bottle of wine and just chill.
Thank you for sharing the music and all the info. I'll get these records soon. My uncle would play Bossanova on his systems when I was a child and told me he used to hear this on the radio. I said for real? It was so different to the rock and pop that was played on the radio then.
I had to chuckle at that slight bit of subjective naiveté, John! There’s never been anything corny, nor pedestrian about Sergio, or Herb A. We must refer back to the earlier teachings as Prince explained, in “All The Critics Love U In New York.” In the lyrics he mentions the idea of intense focus in composition as it supports that very serious nature one takes one’s artistry. He said, “They won’t say that your naive, if you play what you believe, in New York.” Very much like your artistry, and formulas, and ideas on sound propagation, John, folks who truly know great sound always pay very careful attention to you. Yours has never been merely good sound, it has been borne of very, ultra-intense focus, and highly personal, VERY demanding standards! YOUR NAME tolerates nothing less.🌹 I have inadvertently romanticized the idea of you, as an audio equivalent of Nikolai Tesla, mainly in that, in you, John is an enigmatic magic in your engineering that I’ve been intoxicated and spellbound ever since I first heard your babies. I’m keeping my lottos in, hoping to one day commission you on doing one last statement system like that beautiful one you did four years ago. Just sublime.🌹
hello John, could you, please tell me the name of the first album from right to left in the background of this video? thank you from a very happy owner of 3xl in Brazil!
