  • I’ve been watercoloring lure ideas in my sketch pad and accidentally created what looked like a dragon fruit design so thought I’d try to recreate it with the airbrush. To add a bit of a unique twist I left some of the lure see through. Don’t know if that works or not but it’s something different. I can see using these lures mainly for bass and maybe perch. This tutorial includes airbrush lure painting and exquisite clear coating with epoxy.

I absolutely love the way it came out beautiful craftsmanship weird to see a plastic piece to just already airbrush done done I usually make mine outta wood any kinda scrap wood from lumber all types or wood from old trees or draft wood I just wanted to pick up little things for when I retire and have ntg to do I can do projects to keep busy and continuing to feel good about accomplishing my own work and if people like my work I can earn a bit of coin not trying to make millions or start a business just want to be happy and make others happy or make their life a little bit brighter by having one of a kind lures or jigs or whatever I decide to make not like I’ll need it when I’m old I should have enough to just sit and get fat like a rat but at least I’ll leave a little mark on the world even if no one who I am

I’m retired and looking for some projects am getting some things to make buck tails have many family and friends that fish for musky. This looks like I could give it a try have a pancake air compressor and lines would need to add a drier for water and get a airbrush what would you recommend as for the airbrush. I see you have the top load model and have seen others with the bottom and they didn’t like it as much. You do great work I’m certainly not artistic at all but I think I could blend ok. And the scale thing is just screen which I have a bunch of that. Again I’d be making larger lures for musky so fine detail wouldn’t be a problem.

I recommend the Iwata Eclipse HP-CS. It has a .35mm needle which is good for most purposes - acrylic paints, inks, detail work and base coating. It has a large cup on top which for me makes cleaning way easier than those smaller cups. I started to learn airbrushing on a generic airbrush kit I found on Amazon (3 airbrushes and a compressor) and the consistency of the paint flow was too erratic and frustrating. I almost gave up on the idea of airbrushing lures. Then I watched a few other airbrush artists and saw they recommended the Eclipse HP-CS. The first day I used it I couldn't believe how consistent the paint flow was and how great the brush felt in my hand. I have a link to the Eclipse I got in the video description.
For scaling you can use a screen (although metal or hard plastic screens could scratch any color you painted prior to using the screen) or you can just get netting from a bag or oranges, garlic (nice fine netting), old swim trunks sometimes have good netting inside or you can buy some netting at many hobby stores that sell fabric (Joanne Fabric, Michaels, Walmart, etc). When I go out shopping I find myself always looking out for netting.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

Do you have clean out the syringe and with what

Since the 2 part epoxy is only activated when both parts mix, I just wipe both syringes off with a paper towel. Neither part hardens in the syringe.
