    Considering if I should get this or the RDX A spec. Wife and I were considering the Macan or the Velar but given that work is predominantly from home these days, I am sticking to something more afforfable if it's going to sit in the garage or on the driveway more often during the lease period.

    • @tylerk1715

      I own a RDX and it’s is a great car. It’s a tough choice between the two though. RDX is a bit quicker but is all or primarily FWD. The RDX being FWD is my biggest complaint of the car. The SHAWD does help with torque steer but the car is still primarily FWD. The interior of the RDX is great. Very spacious, modern, comfortable. Stereo system is great, especially on higher trim levels. Fuel economy is avg. Nice appeal of the RDX is value. Holds its value well and with the aspec you can gets loads of tech and ventilated seats for under 50k. Also the car comes standard with a panoramic sunroof, which I personally like a lot. I’m honestly only considering switching to an X3 for visual appeal. It’s looks so good, plus is RWD. The X3 is great car but got to spend just a bit more compared to the RDX to get the same level of equipment.

      I would look into the Evoque if you’re worried about the price of the Velar. I bought the redesigned/refreshed Evoque when it came out in 2020. You basically get the Velar at the X3 price range and much better styling. I’ve only had to take my Evoque in a few times for software updates and regular maintenance. Just something to think about

      @@amosthomas7948 The 2016 model after six years only gave me an annoying rattle which turned out to be the sunroof which I sorted with some felt tape. It is low mileage with me only having done so far 79000kms. One or two minor trim issues. An idiot drove into me so also then had a rattle from the left panel meeting the windscreen cowl which I sorted myself, since the repair is most probably not perfect. All in I am happy. Hoping it continues for at least another six. I have the diesel 2.0d, so pretty reliable. No major mechanical issues at all. Cost of maintenance first five years was on motorplan. First paid for service this year at BMW = the independent mechanic. Hope that helps.

  • @edwardg9695
    @edwardg9695 Рік тому +3

    I would not recommend the X3. The car has been in the shop 4 times in the first 4000 miles due to electronics. The sound system crashes (radio, bluetooth, blinker sounds) monthly around the time the Sirius legal notice screen comes up. Secondly, the driving assistant stops working. The other observation is too many tie ins to the infotainment system, cluster, and car inputs. A driver's seat position or steering heat is a cluster message. The infotainment is on the cluster and the head unit. This car will not age well. For instance, if you get slush on the forward sensors, the driving assistant disables AND Apple car play does not work. We do not plan on keeping it past the warranty. One major design flaw is sound damping. There is so much road noise, the first day I drove on wet roads, I was pulling the window switches because I thought one was open. Small annoyances such as needing to glue a piece of felt on the B pillar because the passenger seatbelt buckle rattles on the trim and the backup camera does not retract so we are wiping it twice a week in winter. Also, BMW has a Passive AWD system so the rear wheels need to break free before the front grab. It is the worst of the AWD cars we have had (Quattros, 4 Matics, X Drives). You have to slow down or it will understeer in snow or hit the gas and oversteer until the front pulls. We are at 5000 miles and just received a Drivetrain Malfunction code and recommendation that we go to the dealer (will be our 5th time). I have a 2007 Kia Sedona with 150k miles and it has dropped off our new Mercedes for a failed steering column, our 1 year old Audi for a new transmission, and this car 4 times for electronics.

      These are very different cars, while the hp / size might be comparable, the BMW has an exciting 6 cyl and chassis, whereas the Volvo has a 4 cyl with some extra power. Same for the Audi Q5e. It's fine, it can accelerate, but it just doesn't take turns in the same way or have the sporty sound of the BMW inline 6... If you like cars and driving (maybe a bit fast sometimes), get the BMW. If you like luxury, your options are quite open, it's a big segment, and the Volvo is attractive (but I heard reliability problem, maybe go for a lease!)

    Reasons not to buy:
    1. They made it a mild hybrid out of the M40i and tuned the engine down. Why for turbo lag? The B58 is solid why drop the HP and Torque from the engine?
    2. Fog lights are gone! If you have any wildlife in your area or need to see better with lower aimed beams you’re f$&&’ed.
    3. The design language is going in the wrong direction. This LCI is nice, but one of the last X3’s before they f it up and make it look like it made love with a Lexus and somehow spit out an Alfa Romeo with a BMW Roundel.
    4. They continue to lose their feel. The F chassis was a huge loss for the driver’s car. The G chassis CLAR architecture is awesome for a solid quiet ride that doesn’t make you feel like it’s going to fall apart when you hit a bump.
    5. They keep removing amenities and stall on adding options commonly found in non-luxury vehicles. Love the Headlamp Washers they killed off and remote start is not that big of a deal if most mid level trim packages in American cars have them.
    I have had four BMWs and even took the opportunity to give some of these cars some hell at their Spartanburg, SC M Performance Driving School. - I’m not a brand detractor, but it’s sad to know this is the last one I’ll own if I want to give up fog lights and wonder about the mild hybrid.

    • @BeardedDarin
      @BeardedDarin 3 роки тому

      @TN good point. I used to be a BMW Genius, not that that means much, but I just can’t get behind the new design language. Also, is the 19hp motor for turbo lag the twin scrolled turbo is not supposed to have? I recall Merc announcing in 2018 ish they were going to do a small electric motor to help with theirs watching some BMWNA training videos. If this is the same technology that JLR was using during that time frame that they called matrix lighting? If so, I can see why fog lights are no longer necessary. Are they intelligent enough to know that shooting highbeams into snow or fog or not ideal and will lower their aim similar to what a LED fog light would do? I passed up on a Genesis GV70 also due to lack of fogs, but maybe they use similar tech since they piecemeal’ed their team from the best engineers and designers out there. I will always and forever miss the day I do not have headlight washers. It is a great way to spray the car behind you when they are tailgating. I call at the squid move! And then slam the throttle on my little N55 powered LCI 2017 X3.

      @@amsakharov regarding the 2018 Q7, it's biggest achievement is that it does feel very refined even in 2021 it did. The fuel economy was simply disappointing as we never averaged better than 17mpg. When we pulled a small 5x8 Uhaul trailer, it was more like 12mpg. Also, my spouse wanted the "new gray" paint, so we found it would have been over 3k to wrap the Q7 or 7k to paint! The storage is sufficient on the X3 especially the fold flat second row. The third row was not a must have for our family.

    I was a Nissan fan for decades and in 2019, I purchased a new, fully loaded, 2019 Infinity QX50. I wanted something that offered better building materials, fit and finish. At almost 2.5 months into ownership, I started having Electrical and Computer problems with the SUV, that the Dealership can't fix. The DCU has been replaced 4 times and the problems still exist. Infinity is aware of the problems in the 2019 QX50 and they said that they don't know how to fix it. The Safety features malfunction, Audio System and Climate Control will not work at times, trunk won't close at times, Transmission does not shift properly and hangs on to gears for too long at very high RPM's when in STANDARD MODE, false collisions causing the vehicle to slam on the brakes, ABS not working properly. this vehicle is clean all the time, so the Sensors are not contaminated with Dirt, Bugs, Snow, ect.
