How could the writers have been so spacey and out of touch with their own show that they would later forget that yes, Cory already knew the story of Romeo and Juliet and that Mr. Feeny gave him detention for not taking it seriously? Cory's memory isn't that bad, it was literally 3 or 4 years later he was reading the play again and acting like it wouldn't turn out sad and tragic.

Friday made sense too since now Cory had to miss going to the game because he was listening to the game in class. To say nothing of his sass mouth. People say Mr. Feeny was more aggressive in the first seasons, but this shows that he had every reason to be.
I’d definitely have to agree with you about Feeny being far more tough in that early season, this goes hand in hand with Cory being such a scamp in that first season and learning that he’s got a long way ahead of him in term of growing up and he doesn’t know everything like he may think he does. I know the “old grumpy teacher” trope has given rise to a younger teaching populace but I still think it would’ve been interesting if instead of Cory eventually teaching his own daughter’s class, what if she had a different female mentor teacher to look up to. Like a female Feeny...perhaps? I mean she’s technically already got a pretty ‘good’ pair of parents, to teach her about things life and I’m not saying that female teacher would’ve needed to be as old as Feeny was in these early seasons, but still it might’ve been interesting if she had her teachers teachings to compare with what she’s learned at home.... anyway, just a thought.
