They didn't know what to do with his character basically his character in the earlier seasons wasn't really going anywhere so they let him be himself in later seasons. He also has anxiety and a seizure disorder. I love both sides of Eric
I loved how they made him crazier toward the latter half of the series. The producers and even Will Friedle copped to it, that it just made for better comedy. The guy clearly had a natural talent for that kind of comedy. Might as well use it to their full advantage. And even in his crazier years, they still managed to have be layered; being an idiot-savant and like previously said: the glue that held everyone together.
CORY: All part of Eric's full proof method ERIC: Uh Cory go get the phone... AMY: Oh Eric has a full proof method?? ERIC: RING RING!! (Alan smacks Eric upside the head)
Eric was actually a better written character in the earlier seasons. He's still a dimwit, but it's much more grounded and believable than the whole Plays With Squirrels stuff.
He's not really a dimwit in the show. Mr. Feeny says he's really smart just incredibly lazy except when it comes to women. Then in GMW they make Eric smart and funny.
"You accuse me of this yet you refuse to accuse me of having an affair. That hurts." LMAO. Couldn't say that line on GMW, Disney Channel wouldn't allow it....:(
The first 3 episodes indicate they will find a way to get away with talking about important issues. They have already covered friendship, communication for kids and war using lessons from history.
***** abc family is owned by disney so therefore it is Disney but abc isn't so restricted with things....this is why original disney channel network use to be better in the old days because it wasn't so restricted.
Also got a laugh out of when Amy and Alan first find the earring, and upon realizing it belonged to Eric's GF, Amy tells Alan she doesn't want him talking to Eric alone so there won't be any "father-son winking".
“You had the BIG ‘sex talk with him two years ago what did you tell?” “Not that how could you THINK I’d tell me that?!” “Alan I’m not accusing you-“ “Oh yes you did you accuse me of THIS and not having an affair that hurts!” Alan is quite the catch. XD

Why, oh why, can't the Girl Meets World dialogue be like this? This is both realistic and hilarious at the same time.---great timing throughout this scene. Thanks for the upload----I just love Boy Meets World so much!
Alas, seems like nowadays, kids' TV shows tend to be much more pandering and lacking in life-lessons to teach to kids, and rather glorify brainless antics and politically-correct/progressive messages. Disney, let alone mainstream networks don't seem to care anymore about educating, but simply entertaining and making money now. Maybe one day there'll be an honest spin-off series that pays proper respect to it's predecessor, but for a new generation.
This is a perfect example of two parents working together. This kind of writing is so rare; to be able to juggle a life lesson, comedy, and example at once... man. I aspire to be that good.
You guys its like the show friends were just about everyone has rights to Disney and ABC made a deal before Disney bought ABC people just taped the clip later because of technology
@@osaji922 lol that might have been the point. Disney channel in 02 also aired karate kid 3, heavy editing, back to the future, they showed the attempted lynch on marty and back yo the future 2, where the 2 women were obviously topless

This was honestly such a great scene, every moment was perfectly executed comedy, yet meaningful. I miss the lessons of 90s sitcoms in shows today! This would NEVER be a topic in kids shows today. I actually prefer the later seasons of Boy Meets World, but this episode has always stood out as one of my favorites from the early days.
Alan was funny in this episode. You don’t accuse me of having an affair that hurts LOL. Also he tells Cory, LEARN her name. Cory what did you know about girls before your brothers excellent advice? Cory: I didn’t know anything. Dad: Why don’t you go with that?
VDLS we can argue technicalities but I’m sure you realize this show did not originally air on the Disney Channel, which is what is being discussed here.
Ehhh, believable yes...but often they were pretty passive in their own children's lives. So when bigger announcements/problems came, it felt to them like the rug was being pulled under. The further and more drastic Cory and Eric went as their own men, the less Alan felt he could relate to them...and even when he got involved, he tended to get evasive/bossy out of habit. Which actually made their few resonances later on all the more touching. GMW has the benefit of Cory' and Topanga's careers being both tied to their parenting. They may project their pasts from time to time, but their approach clearly has inspired a small network of introspective and supportive friends through Riley's intelligence and optimism...one that's actively worked through their own interpersonal hurdles rather than just "letting things be".

The parents on BMW were more believable than GMW because they were trying to play relatable parents instead of goofballs.
These days on Disney shows, the parents are the moronic goofballs while the kids act like adults
They were parents first who happened to be goofballs. Whereas corey is just a goofball dad
True, Dad Cory wasn’t as funny in GMW
They actually had storylines unlike grown up Corpanga who only had a story related to kids
Alan Mathews is one of the greatest TV fathers during the 90s. The 90s had a plethora of them.
As much as I'm looking forward to "Girl Meets World", this is why it will never be as good as the original: Disney shows can't discuss things like sex
