Hey, guys! Awesome video! In fact so awesome, when I found myself in NOLA (still am) I decided to spend a couple nights down at the WP. Of course, it's June so the water was a lot siltier than in the fall, but I still nabbed a pretty decent Red Fish and had plays on a couple of others and either they were non-takers or I blew the cast. Still great times! Thanks, Brian, for introducing me to this cool place. ...Next time, I'll have my own gear with me and a good stock of Plantation Crabs! Ha!
I’m watching from New Orleans, learning from a guy from Ohio how to fish our own fish, haha. I love Mad RIver Outfitters, for showing love all the way to Louisiana and for bringing your enthusiasm with you, it really helps those of us who are a little discouraged at the still small number of fly fishers here.
The whole family watched. We absolutely loved it! They gave me an 8wt Echo BAG, proudly purchased from MRO, today for my birthday. We were excited to see you land the first fish with it. Congrats on the new PR!
@@ivybells8607 I like it! I put the orange redington behemoth with purple backing on it. It’s…loud 😁. MRO suggested wulff triangle taper sink tip for streamers, and I like the pairing. I’ve had no trouble turning over 1/0 and 2/0 hair when bass fishing. It is slower than “modern” rods, but I appreciate the nostalgia of glass. I’m a fan of buying local if you can, but if you can’t, the folks at MRO are great to deal with.
For centuries people have tried to describe fishing with pen and paper. But some smart, fun and most creative people like you, have turned it into reality and made it really interesting. Thanks for sharing this fishing
I usually fish Port Sulphur or Grand Isle and until I found your channel today while looking how to get into fly fishing, never thought you could flyfish bulls. I love this video and look forward to learning to fly fish. Thank you.
Those redfish are powerful fighters especially when they get that big. Stunning fish. Thanks for the very entertaining video. Every fly angler’s dream to get arm weary from catching too many redfish!
Great fish but you can't hold bull reds vertical. Fwc did a whole study on holding bull reds vertical. High mortality rate due to displacing vital organs. I held several bulls vertical in a back pond one time and the next day they were all floating.
Looks like I missed you by a week or so. I got my first taste of redfish on a fly in early November in the same area. Truly an amazing experience. A bit of advice for anyone considering it, work out those arms. well in advance. Bull reds will wear you out!
AWESOME video. Currently living in Georgia but lived in NOLA area for many years. This Brought back wonderful memories. There is no place like Venice Louisiana for fishing. What weight fly rod were you using and what size tippet?
Thanks for watching. Pretty sure he does that here: ua-cam.com/video/cKEo6HLizFM/v-deo.html If not, feel free to call or email him at the shop. He’s always happy to help.
I’ve put down my fly rod recently to use my spinning setup. Now I want to pickup my fly rod again. I wouldn’t stand a chance against those reds with an 8WT though. You guys have any good Black Friday sales coming up? Great video, great day on the water! Keep inspiring!
I live in Texas and I’ve been looking into getting a fly rod and reel to primarily catch Reds. I’m all new to this but I still wanted to get something nice, preferably a 8 to 9 weight along the lines of Sage. But the biggest question is if fly fishing would be worth it rather than just spin fishing. Just wanted to get a game plan rather than going out and buying a bunch of stuff.
Thanks for being here. Please contact the folks at the shop directly with your questions and they will be happy to help. That's what they do! You can e-mail them or call them direct.
Stay tuned as that information is coming in a follow-up episode. He is using a TFO Axiom II-X and a Nautilus CCF-X2 reel though in most of this video. Feel free to call or e-mail him at the shop if you need more....or stay tuned. Next video should be soon!
Holy smoke ..that TFO Axiom got his *ss kicked but held his own very well! Was that a 10 Weight? Wish we had reds in the Netherlands! Great content as always!
