    Love this channel, so laid back and your commentary is just so easy, please don't change !!!! It's like being hugged 😂. As a Brit watching your vids I'm shocked at how much rain you get there. Really surprising, although everywhere you go the scenery is spectacular so this makes up for it. Now, as much as I love your Stornoway, the Pathfinder is one of those boats that looks 'just right'. So much so I've only gone and bought the plans and started building my own, so I can have little adventures too. We've only got a handful of lakes we can use here, plenty of sea as you know but you don't necessarily want to hit the sea every time you go for a sail do you. Anyway, great channel, keep it up fella. 👍

      Thanks so much Gav for those kind comments. You will love the Pathfinder, a great boat with lots of cabin space and also fast in light winds but stable in heavy. If I didn't have the Stornaway I would probably have the Pathfinder. Yes it has been a wet winter and colder than usual. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment, happy building, cheers Paul

    Been using trangia since I was a boy back in 1993 hiking through Victorian mountains in snow.
    Trick for 5:50 to prevent that sooting on bottom of frypan. Add about 10-20% water to metho by volume and it will not deposit all that blackness as it runs a bit cooler and cleaner

    Just what I needed to keep going on the winter re-fit I've been trying to wrap up. One month has expanded into 2.5...but that's boats for you. Early April Pacific Northwest (US) weather, cold wet and rainy, so having the boat tucked in the warm dry shop isn't really so bad.

    For anyone thinking of a small yacht.... the things I had to consider, was solo launching and recovery back on the trailer, solo mast raising and lowering..... my maximum towing capacity and what length I could find parking for at my home.
    For me this equated to a Ultimate 18.... remember all boats are a compromise!
    If you live much more than an hours drive to the water, then you should consider owning a moored boat can become a ball and chain, requiring you to check on it at least every two weeks, and keep up with the running maintenance !

    That's right you are sailing around with our beautiful regional flag! And it is also true that your fine Trangikok comes from the country on the other side of the world. The flag is for the very southernmost part of Sweden and the Trangia kitchen is made by a small family business in the northern part of our country. Keep sailing and filming so I can follow you for a few more years!

    Nothing wrong with an easy to prepare meal. A couple small containers of an herb & spicy pepper mixture will do well. I saw a pic today of a 20 oz plastic water bottle. Your forget list is a good idea. I did it with my trailer RV, a laminated list. There is a lot…It was great for a while. Once memorized, well…. I have to ask, do you ever get below freezing temperatures, maybe sleet/snow? Do you sail in the cold weather? Your big lake is truly beautiful. Your cinematography is beautiful. Thank you for sharing…from the US, east Tennessee.
    P.S. Does it take long to get used to or enjoying sailing’s slow pace - more work? I know the pre-sailing setup, then actually sailing, followed by the post-sailing take down and put away, is considerably more work than motor boating.

    • @SailingKateLouise

      Set up for me is about 20 mins . To put the mast up is only 5 mins but then you have to load all your camping gear, wood , water, sup, etc. It never snows in Sydney so we can still sail in winter it's just colder. But this winter has been quite wet. I don't think anyone enjoys de rigging. Thanks again for watching, cheers Paul

    The flag of Skåne, pronunciation almost right but the ending E to be pronounced, is actually a mix of the Swedish flag, blue with a yellow cross and the Danish flag, red with a white cross. This due to the fact that Skåne belonged to Denmark for over 600 years before taken by Sweden almost 400 years ago. Cheers from Stockholm Archipelago, Sweden!

    I concur with Outtakes2004 - excellent videos! I have a question, though - at 22:00 in this one you blithely say 'I just came ashore'. How do you do that when you are anchored off a bit? Waders? Slack the bow and draw the stern? Does the rudder conflict? Keep up the beautiful work! Inspirational. (literally - I just picked up a Peep Hen and hope to cruise bits of the Chesapeake Bay here on the east coast of the USA)

      Hi Mate, thanks for watching. The way I moor up to a beach is to come in stern first drop my bow anchor which has an anchor buddy and then throw my stern line to anyone on the beach it (pays not to be first in). Then tighten up the bow anchor and then the stern line. Most of the beaches we go to are sandy and not too shallow. So I can jump off the stern and get wet to just above the knees....not a problem in summer winter can be a little cold. The Stornaway draws 44 cms, as it has a skeg keel but generally I can get pretty close. When back on the boat before sleeping I then pull in the Bow anchor a couple of metres. Many of the other dinghies are flat bottomed so they can beach up. Luckily in our part of the world the tidal range is no more than a foot on the lake systems, so we also don't have to dry out on mud flats. Thanks again for watching, cheers Paul

    Love your videos Paul , Do you have any special things you do to the boat after you get home , eg polishes or special washing cleaner , do you wash down sails etc , basically maintenance between sailing days

    • @SailingKateLouise

      Hi Steve, I normally wash down the decks , hull and obviously trailer ( fresh water). If there has been a lot of water marks I might add a bit of detergent. I don't wash the sails and probably should but it's a bit hard where I am. Then pump some grease into the bearing buddies, make sure all the bilges are dry and open all the buoyancy hatches so the timber can breath and prevent mould. That's about it, thanks for watching, cheers Paul

    Does the sail on the aft of your dinghy have a double purpose?

    • @SailingKateLouise
      @SailingKateLouise  Рік тому

      Hi Bram having a mizzen sail spreads the load or wind across 3 sails rather than 2 , meaning you have more options for different wind conditions. Often I sail with just the headsail and the mizzen and don't the main up (less sail area...more balanced). Thanks for watching, cheers Paul

    Hi Paul, happy Easter. Question. Having trailed for four/five hours and arriving at your launch ramp to find it too rough/windy, what do you do?

      Well, you can always sleep in the boat on the trailer. In fact one of the Cygnet 20's uses their boat as a Caravan when doing long trips....best of both world's. I also check the weather constantly and make sure there is a protected spot nearby the ramp in case it goes pear shaped. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul

    It's not all sunshine and fair winds then? Never seen you look as down as in this vid, even when you lost your sunnies Paul. Been following the Duyfken vids. Did you ever get a turn at the tiller? I am intrigued by how it works, as it looks like a bit of tree trunk vertical through the deck.

    • @SailingKateLouise
      @SailingKateLouise  Рік тому

      Hi Dale, yes helming the Duyfken is interesting. Everyone has to steer when on a 4 hour watch. The Whipstaff is like a vertical tiller extension that goes through the deck to the tiller. Ship's wheels weren't invented until the early 1700's and the Duyfken is a replica of a Dutch ship built in 1595. In heavy seas it can be tough so you only steer for half an hour at a time. Thanks for watching Sailing Duyfken, hopefully I will do some more detailed videos on the tall ship, cheers Paul

    ich liebe kleine boote und baue kleine boote,,,und verstehe nicht, warum die gekauften boote so verbaut sind, dass man kaum zu 2.darin platz findet...viel zu grosse plicht, zu kleine kabinen, immer noch ruderpinnen und dann veralteten mast und rigg...keine neuheiten, keine ideen,,,nix...

      Hallo, ich stimme Ihnen zu, meine Kabine ist etwas klein und das Cockpit groß. Aber ich vermute, dass die Designer denken, dass man mehr Zeit im Cockpit verbringt. Es gibt eine Version meines Bootes, bei der die Gesamtlänge gleich ist, aber die Kabine 40 cm größer und das Cockpit um den gleichen Betrag kleiner ist. Danke fürs Zuschauen und schick mir ein Foto von deinem Boot, Grüße Paul
