It's hard to image there was once a time when 33" tires were considered to be BIG, especially when the all new Jeep JL Wrangler Rubicons come with them standard and right from the factory. In fact, when it came time for Cindy and I to start thinking about building up JET Li, it was pretty easy for us to skip 35's and go straight to a set of 37x13.50R17 Cooper Discoverer STT Pros. As far as wheels go, we pretty much always run beadlocks and we were really happy to see that KMC had just come out with their all new XD231 Robby Gordon Race wheels. As luck would have it, they are made in a 17x8.5, come with a nice 4.75" of back spacing, are available in a 5x5 bolt pattern and even have mounting holes that will fit the larger 14mm studs that now come on the JL Wrangler. In this episode of the JL JOURNAL, you'll get to see what it takes to install beadlock wheels and tires. We hope you find this video to be helpful and informative and we thank you for watching.

That was without a doubt one of the best beadlock install videos I've seen, thank you. Best advice I've heard for staying out of the way of the lock ring too. Basically your tire is a bomb at that point.
Glad to hear it. Thank you.
WOW! Nice set of shoes for JetLi! I love the stance low and wide looks very good. I have never mounted beadlocks but after watching this video I don't think I would have much problem. Great instructions.
Thank you, so glad to hear this video was informative and helpful.
A+ Eddie! Thanks for an awesome walk through on bead locks.
Glad you found it to be informative :)
Hey Eddie, I’m a recent subscriber and wanted to thank you for all of your videos! You have great content and editing and formatting skills! Cheers from Nova Scotia Canada. 👍
We're flattered that you'd say as much, thank you.
Great explanation. I watched other videos where guys didn’t demonstrate anything it was like - look what I did. Didn’t explain a thing. Great video sir
Awesome! Happy to hear you found our video to be helpful.
Amazing. 37's on a stock JL. Love the vids and love the realism of how you are approaching this build. Can't wait to see where it brings all of us.
Thank you, we're so glad that you're enjoying our videos.
15:30 “ just in case it’s always smart to be safe “ never heard of that one I’m going to use it for now on lol 😎 thanks
Damn that looks fantastic!! Im just waiting to pick up a Rubicon up in Canada and you just helped me pick some wheels out, thanks!
Awesome, glad to be of help :)
Those wheels are absolute beauties. These are definitely on my list of potential wheels for my new JL Rubi.
They are a lot of work to install and not really something most people need but they do look good.
Eddie that looks fantastic. Really enjoy your videos. Fun to watch and looks fun
Thank you. So glad to hear it.
The right person with right tools
i'm obsessed to that jeep, very nice one..
Man, wheels and tires make a huge difference. Looks great!
Thanks Rachel. We're super happy with them :)
Great video Eddie! I'll be saving this for future use! Looking forward to seeing the lift next. Carry on my friend! :)
Glad you liked the video.
Super sick! Can’t wait to see the next video after the lift.
It's coming :)
NICE! Those tires and wheels look awesome on that jeep.
Thank you :)
another great video! The JL looks awesome!
Thank you :)
You have the best channel on UA-cam! Incredible content!
Wow, thank you. We really appreciate it.
The 37s are looking nice! Looking forward to some trail action after the lift is installed.
Thanks. Moab is coming up soon :)
Jeep actually addressed the pinch seem on later JK's. My '17 doesn't have the big pinch seem older JKs had, where as on my old '08 33's almost rubbed it. I normally can't stand polished wheels, but I really like those. They have a nice classic look to them.
This is true about late model JK's but the clearance seems to be even greater on the JL. Regarding the wheels, they're just machined and that's probably why you find that they look okay :)
Your the best on you tube but it’s hard to watch you install all those nice parts and I can’t afford shocks. You do it right don’t stop, hope good things always happen.
Paul
Thank you and for whatever it's worth, we've been there. It's taken the better part of 20 years to get to where we are now.
Awesome tutorial video, sick shop, and badass jeep pick up!
Thank you :)
Great content, going from 315/70/17 8" wheel stt pro's to 37x12.50x17 9" wheel stt pro myself!
Congrats to you :)
WOW!!!! That looks amazing you guys!!! Jet Li is gorgeous!!!!
Thank you.
Gratification of doing every upgrade yourself!
It's the only way you can know that it was done right.
Wayalife... I was wondering how in the world are you were going to mount those rims without a tire machine! Awesome ingenuity! Keep the videos coming. LOL, you're gonna make me buy a JL!!!!
LOL!! These are beadlocks and this really is how you mount them. Standard wheels do require a tire machine.
Im new to the whole jeep brand, im coming from the bmw 435xi family. I really like your garage and the way you setup your videos! Keep up the good job. Very entertaining and informative videos, would be great to see more frequest videos. Thank you for the content!
Thank you for that, we really do appreciate it :)
Diazjohn27 I’m in the same boat. My
JL Unlimited Rubicon arrives next week. Still keeping my 4 series.
What a dream garage! Would love to see more of the J truck.
Wow, that's beautiful wheels)
I am definitely getting bead locks now! You are like a hypnotist! I am just going to direct deposit my check to the buying parts account lol
LOL - too funny :)
Great attention to detail! Loved seeing every step. I would never have attempted to do this myself, but after watching this I feel pretty confident I could tackle it.
One question: what about balancing?
Glad to hear it! Regarding balancing, it's hit and miss. Sometimes you need it and sometimes you don't. So far, these wheels and tires seem to be very round and I don't think they'll need balancing.
Thank you for the video of how beadlocks work, cool rims and tires👍🇺🇸..new subscriber here.
Thanks for the sub!
Living the Jeeper's dream!
Trying our hardest :)

It’s pretty amazing, that you could probably run it on pavement, with 37’s and no lift. It looks like Jeep got it right, on the JL. Can’t wait to own one!
Hopefully sooner than later my friend :)
I didn't know Jet Li wears size 37 shoes ;p
Looking good mate. Thanks for the video again.
LOL!! Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video :)
Gotta admit the JL is growing on me! Wheels and tires look sweet!
LOL!! Thanks and glad to hear it :)
Looks great you're the man bro
LOL!! Thanks, glad you like what you see.

Very nice! Love the new shoes.

That looks awesome!
Thanks :)
Wow I was excited watching this video never get excited about another person's Jeep but that was pretty cool like the name Jet Li
LOL!! Glad to hear it, thanks!
Great video E. Best bead lock one next to Mel's where he throws the wheel into the tire LOL
Man that looks great!
Thank you :)
I used to work at a Jeep shop I hated beadlocks especially when your working with a stiff tire I give you props for doing that without a tire machine😂
LOL - it's a lot of work for sure.
Very very nice! Excited to see after lift as well.
Thank you. We have pics posted over on www.JLWRANGLER.com but we will also post up a video soon.
16:04 I'm saying to myself "Yes you do have a lift, that's the blue thing in front of you". 16:10 I'm sitting here thinking "boy do I like to jump to conclusions". Nice looking wheels and a great how-to video.
missmymountain I did the same thing 😂😂
Same, maybe the phrase got us thinking different words LUL
Those look great. And cannot wait until I get home to install my xd229s on my jk
damn! it came out amazing. looks great
Thanks :)
Love looks of those wheels.
Thanks, we do too!
Damn you make it look so easy!!
LOL!! If that's true, it's only because I've installed more than a few beadlock wheels over the years.
Awesome shop nice everything

Glad you found this video useful.
great vid!
Thank you :)
Amazing!
Thank you :)
Yes outstanding!
Thank you
Iam impressed with how you can put the tire back on the Jeep ! Perhaps a vid on different way to reinstall tire ? Iam disabled an no longer have that strength, thanks
@@bryanmittner6100 If you're talking about the rear tire carrier, there really aren't too many options other than making sure to go wheeling with a friend that can help out. This is certainly the case with my 40" tires on my other Jeeps.
Mounting the tire on the vehicle, was my question, big tires and men with bad backs ...
Great show! Can't wait to see what lift kit you choose.. tbc..
We actually got an EVO 2.5" Stage 4 lift. We'll be sure to post up an install video as soon as we can.
Nice vid man
We're so glad to hear you like it.
Wow, looks amazing. Nice choice on the wheels. Curious why you chose the stt pros over the st maxx's. I have the maxx's and love them. Only 33's though my truck cant take any more than that.
We've been super happy with how well the STT Pro have been performing for us. Here's a video that highlights some of the places they've taken us over the last 2 years. ua-cam.com/video/0LC_2vyfS4E/v-deo.html
looks good
Your videos are really great and helpful thank you! Could I use the same rim dimensions if I go with 35" tires on my 2019 JL Sahara?
Yes, you could but really, there really isn't a need for them.
JetLee love it!
LOL! Thanks
Nice video.
Maybe you can do a follow-up when you do the lift and show us the rear window clearance and rear camera position when the 5th wheel is mounted
Loving these step by step transformation videos!
How does the gearing feel now with the 37's? Will re-gearing be necessary? Or does the JLUR have enough beef?
So far, the 8-speed auto seems to get the job done well.
Superbe travail jantes j’adore 👍
Excelente, gracias.
Sick. Nice shoes Jet Lee
Thank you
Excelent, Good video
Thank you very much!
I just bought the Cooper 40x13.50x17 and 17 inch kmc grenades. I cannot get the wheel past halfway in the tire. I did not have any issues with my spyderlocks and toyos 3 years ago. I've sprayed soapy water and stomped the crap out of it 🤣 Thinking about setting the front of the jeep on it tomorrow 😏🤔
LOL - try doing it this way. ua-cam.com/video/IJbrykqF9RI/v-deo.html
How do you set up the "buy Wayalife merchandise" tshirt banner ad? I want to do this on my videos for my tshirts. Great channel.
How often do you need to check and retorque the ring bolts? Do you have to let all air out of the tire prior to retorqueing?
Talk about garage goals
LOL! Thanks
Very informative- I appreciate the content!
I recently test drove 2 JL’s: a stock rubicon Unlimited and the same with mopar’s 2 1/2” lift and 37” tires. The stock ride was nice. The lifted Jeep’s ride felt a little disconnected from the road on bumps. Is that due to tires or tire pressure or the lift? I’m trying to decide which way to build it. I prefer the stock handling but like the look better with the lift & 37’s. Any thoughts or advice? Thank you!
Factory tires are load range C and most 37's are load range E. You need to run them at a much lower psi to get them close to being as comfortable.
Great video per usual! Just installed some bead locks myself and noticed the instructions said “max 25psi” I plan on daily driving my Jeep and was wondering if I can run at higher PSI’s on the highway? Thinking mid 30 psi range. What do you run on the highway?
Not sure what beadlocks you installed but with a set of KMC wheels, you should be able to run them at the max psi that is stated on your tires. However, I personally would not run them more than about 30 psi or so as more than that will cause a firmer ride and cause poor wear down the middle of the tread.
Great job on the video! I just got a JL loving it!! I added 35’s and a 2.5 OEM lift! Now you are making me want 37’s lolol! Never ends.. quick question, did you not have to balance them? Or you did that after? Thanks again!
Fortunately, there was no need to have these wheels balanced after the install but if they did, I would have.
Bulldog on a skateboard. Love it.
Thanks you sir
Thanks for the great videos, would like to see a video on how the 8spd transmission copes with the 37's, especially over mountainous roads.
Hmm, I suppose we could do that but really, there'd be nothing to show. After driving a thousand miles out to Moab and back and crossing multiple mountain ranges, I can tell you that the 8-speed auto is handling the 37's surprisingly well. Unlike the JK before, I literally feel no need to regear.
Wayalife that is good news, and I assume that's with 4.1 diff ratios?
Yes, with 4.10
Eres muy bueno👏🏼👍🏽
