As an audio engineer trying to wire my finely collected plugins for music production and sound design this is truly a treat to be able to do this for my voice and any calls. Thank you truly.
I had previously completed this setup, and it worked for so many years.. that I forgot how to re-do it. Messed around with all the possible settings for HOURS and finally gave up.. until I watched your video. No clue exactly what I was getting wrong, but thank you.
You're pioneering many new content creators and streamers towards having a more professional setup, and for free. You deserve all success that comes your way 👍
The Voicemeeter insert ASIO is super powerfull. I currently have it set up inside of Waves Superrack as a "proxy mixer" as I do not have a mixing console at hand, but I do have an old screen with touch functionality. Anyways, inside of Superrack, I am processing all my audio channels (mic, music, desktop and discord) and yes, you can even process the output channels before they get sent to a physical output. The only problem with this setup is that I am limited to waves plugins this way, but you can switch out Superrack for any DAW (Image-Line minihost and Cantabile is free) and use any plugins this way. It is even possible to combine the channels into a single stereo bus and feed that back into Voicemeeter as a makeshift "Master Bus", a feature that has been missing from OBS since basically forever, and add a limiter to the entire audio stream to avoid any potential clipping, but also to boost the final audio output into OBS. Just keep in mind, some plugins introduce latency, either due to lookahead or general processing delay. Limiters and noise removal plugins are among the worst in this regard, and OBS does not correct this, even if you load them in there directly. Some DAW's like Reaper, Cantabile should have this feature too but I don't remember where, can show exactly how much latency is added in their built-in performance monitor (though it's shown in samples, and not milliseconds), and you'll have to calculate and set the offset manually in OBS. This entire comment is a massive oversimplification of my own personal setup, and even trying to explain how it works in a visual context would probably make most people turn away really fast, but the point is: Voicemeeter is stupidly powerfull, and we have barely scratched the surface of it's capabilities.
Thank you for doing this. My problem is that my noise suppression plugin (Clear) only works on one, so if I have two mic inputs, it doesn't work on the second mic input... So I'm wondering how to make lighthost apply to B1 output instead of one of the inputs? I want to put the lighthost effects on everything coming out of Voicemeeter, not just one mic coming in...
It's nice to see LightHost being used. I used to run Reaper, then Cantabile (which is nice for chains and docking, etc), but it's hard to beat LightHost for a quick setup, low resource VST host. Thanks
I really like Cantabile for chains. My problem with it is that it needs to be restarted once or twice or plugins fail to load. I also have to redo the license with each Windows update. It is not the best for sitting down and just flipping everything on for these reasons. But when you have the time to get everything just so it sounds awesome. Now if I could figure out my USB hum.....
First of all: Great Video! I think I'm starting to understand the Patch Insert system. However, what I can't seem to figure out is: How can I use VST Plugins on my output instead? More accurately: After mixing various input sources I want to apply a chain of VST plugins on my output after mixing all input channels, just before they are sent to the actual output device.
Thank you so much brother for both the Voicemeeter Potato setup video and this one. Super useful! I'm running everything on a Scarlett 2i2 and the Rode NT-1. For all those ones who gets robotic voice signal: I fixed with "Reset Device" on Light Host's advanced settings, as Frans said in the video! Thank you again bro! 👍👍
Hiw did you setup your patch panel for 2 hardware outputs to Light Host. When I try activating patch 2 it doesn't output any sound. But if I turn both patches 1 and 2 off I can hear both mics.
7:52 is where you say you "don't have to" use the VST plugins for the mic alone. That's awesome... but I cannot figure out for the life of me how to get those plugins to apply to ALL of my sound being output. You go on to see that I'm interested in that then I should check the video you linked, which is the one about setting up Voicemeeter. I watched that whole video but you don't get into how to apply the VSTs to the overall output there. SO, I'm using Lighthost for my plugins and they are currently working only for mic... HOW to get it to work for ALL sound coming through my system? For instance, let's say that I am doing a voiceover, stopping to play clips from a debate stream... I want the effects from the VSTs to apply to BOTH my microphone audio AND the browser audio. Right now I can only apply the VSTs to the mic input OR one of the virtual cable inputs... how do I apply it to all sound coming through my virtual output that is being recorded by OBS or Audacity?
I wanted to use VSTs with my PC Audio, specifically to EQ and apply effects to Spotify. There's gotta be a way to do this with your method, but I can't figure out what changes to make. Any ideas? Thanks!
