Please dont go to the dark side my friend ! .The referendum officially was only an advisory vote but with so much media interference that somehow got lost. In 2016 we all knew very little about what leaving really meant, during the recent indicative voting process the numbers changed every time, proving that with new information people generally change their views. I think its a bit of a poke in the eye of democracy to deny another vote given that the goal posts have now moved so much. Farage is a far right populist with a far worse agenda than just Brexit.

      @Mark S, premises, premises :)
Sorry it was an unclear statement. I'll elucidate:
What specifically is Brexit? Point me to a document that defines the new policies, their impacts on society and the projected outcomes including cost and benefit analysis of all those outcomes that are reasonable to predict. Then explain how it is reflects and delivers on ALL the promises made by ALL the leave campaigns at the time of the referendum.
A successful answer will quantify how, economically and qualify how socially the UK populace will benefit from Brexit and how the result reflects the will of the people as defined by myriad leave campaign promises, this validating the referendum.
Now, I have been trying to answer this question myself but am stuck. You see there is are fundamental mismatches between what's been written down and voted on/for and what I hear a lot of Brexit arguments are based on.
Here are two stark examples of what I mean, and it explains some of my reservations on the subject. (I will admit that I have a very good idea about the real motivations and real goals behind Brexit - and they aren't to the benefit of the UK population as a whole. But if take the time to read Naomi Klein's book, The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Economics - or at least watch the documentary that was made and is available on UA-cam, you will get another perspective about the premise of Brexit).
Anyway, this is the government policy paper describing the policy and rationale for Brexit:
      www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-united-kingdoms-exit-from-and-new-partnership-with-the-european-union-white-paper/the-united-kingdoms-exit-from-and-new-partnership-with-the-european-union--2#taking-control-of-our-own-laws
Let's discuss the paragraph on "taking control of our laws", Chapter 2:
"2. Taking control of our own laws
We will take control of our own affairs, as those who voted in their millions to leave the EU demanded we must, and bring an end to the jurisdiction in the UK of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU)."
Comment: That is the premise of Brexit in this area.
      "Parliamentary sovereignty
2.1 The sovereignty of Parliament is a fundamental principle of the UK constitution. Whilst Parliament has remained sovereign throughout our membership of the EU, it has not always felt like that. The extent of EU activity relevant to the UK can be demonstrated by the fact that 1,056 EU-related documents were deposited for parliamentary scrutiny in 2016. These include proposals for EU Directives, Regulations, Decisions and Recommendations, as well as Commission delegated acts, and other documents such as Commission Communications, Reports and Opinions submitted to the Council, Court of Auditors Reports and more."
So, under the premise of taking control of our laws, the first argument presented is that the UK parliament has always been sovereign and so solely in charge of its national law making. This is a statement of fact. We have always been in control and able to govern ourselves. The end of that sentence is a subjective and divisive statement based on the authors' opinions which, may be true for some, certainly cannot be said for all. The author is trying to spin a 'feeling' to try to distract from the fact. the fact is and should be made clear that SOVEREIGNTY IS NOT AN ISSUE as many on the leave campaign have claimed. It is not up for debate. To claim that it is, is incorrect and to argue to the contrary is a lie. As for this argument in the context of taking back our laws, it is a complete irrelevance. We make our national laws as a sovereign state, they are not imposed on us by anyone else which is why we are sovereign.
Now the last sentence is also an irrelevance as while it is a statement of fact, it merely highlights the fact that as part of the EU membership, the UK government gets sent a number of documents to scrutinise and review. This is their job and responsibility and it is a demonstration of the democratic nature of the EU system where all parties are included in the running of the system. The only thing I can infer from the inclusion of this statement is that the government don't want to do their job, they don't want to deal with the responsibility and administration of EU memebership for the sake of all the benefits it allows and the power and influence the UK government holds within the heart of the EU system.
The next section I will cite is on our courts and the relationship with the EU court of justice (CJEU).
"Ending the jurisdiction of the Court of Justice of the European Union in the UK
2.3 The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) is the EU’s ultimate arbiter on matters of EU law. As a supranational court, it aims to provide both consistent interpretation and enforcement of EU law across all 28 Member States and a clear process for dispute resolution when disagreements arise. The CJEU is amongst the most powerful of supranational courts due to the principles of primacy and direct effect in EU law. We will bring an end to the jurisdiction of the CJEU in the UK. We will of course continue to honour our international commitments and follow international law."
So this is a description of the CJEU and its jurisdiction. This entity is responsible for arbitration on EU law. Not national law, which, as a sovereign state as stated unequivocally in the previous paragraph, is under our control and only our control.
The CJEU deals only with matters of EU law which we have helped define and have signed up to in order to provide governance and order between the EU nations. The CJEU doesn't therefore have jurisdiction on our sovereign laws only the collective laws that we helped write and we have signed up to and that afford us the fundamental benefits and freedoms of the EU, the same as the other 27 member states.
These are not 'our' laws in terms of us being the UK. They are 'our' laws in terms of our EU membership. And in terms of control, we have more MEPs than most other EU member states and so have more control and influence than most.
So the concept of taking control of our laws is ambiguous in this case because we have control of 'our' UK national law because we are a sovereign state, and EU law is not for us, as the UK, to take because they belong and govern the EU and to try to do so would be to try to control the EU...
As for any argument about our courts being hog tied or whatever, is a fallacy also because our courts don't have jurisdiction over matters of EU law.
Now I have asked the same question to my local MP who has not been able to answer this question in any detail. I hope you can help.

If there is no deal then there is a massive threat to the rights of EU nationals in the UK and British citizens in mainland EU. That is in addition to all the inconveniences around travel and trade relations. These are facts.
Disruption of trade relations would result in massive reassessment of supply chains. This will mean an economic recession the depth of which can only be guessed at. Check with the Bank of England, CBI and IOD if you don't believe me.
The question for you and all those supporting Brexit is whether your hatred of the EU is so great you would jeopardise the economy and the rights of millions of EU and UK nationals across Europe?
There are consequences. There has already been a cost of billions which will be as nothing if Brexit goes through - the final bill will run to 10s of billions with the future of the next generation damaged perhaps irreparably. For what - so you don't have to hear so many Polish accents on the bus! It's hardly proportionate!
My arguments are supported by the leaders of industry the unions and the vast majority of those that have been in authority for the last 45 years. Your argument seems to be that they are all wrong and will surrender all they have built to an I'll informed 'majority'.
It just won't happen, particularly when it is clear that opinions have changed. The best you can hope for now is another referendum where you will have to make the case again - this time based facts and economic reality rather than prejudice and 'feelings'. Look at the latest opinion polls if you don't believe me!
The best Brexit can hope for is around 40%. Its just not enough to carry the day. You have lost - face it and move on. Even under our crazy electoral system the Brexit party would not get a majority ina general election - fact.
What you should be doing is what your right wing colleagues in France and Italy are doing - campaign to change the EU from within. Goodness knows there are plenty things needing reformed. But to come out altogether Carrie's too much risk for a majority of the British electorate to swallow - this is not a revolution and there is just not the strength of feeling to turn. It into one.

You know democracy is in its dying throws when those in positions of power and influence start demanding that voters justify why they voted the way the did. I first noticed this after the 2015 general election with former celebs leading tantrum walks which just got cranked up to 11 after the 2016 referendum result. The introduction of the secret ballot back in the 19th century meant the electorate doesn’t have to justify to anyone why they chose to vote the way the did. It was based on the concept that voters had their own opinions and should be able to exercise them as they see fit. Who do do these people think they are to call that into question because they’ve been on the losing side more than they’d like! At the moment we still live in a democracy not some totalitarian state that requires complete subservience to the views of the political class however that nightmare is probably not too far away unless we teach those in power a lesson at the ballot box and remind the just who is boss.

It is an extraordinary thing that the supporting the EU has become the trendy, hip thing to do, and is now associated with being liberal and open minded. In the UK the left rail against austerity, and the heartless Tories. Anybody who really wants to understand how hard nosed the EU is should listen to Yanis Varoufakis. They might then reconsider whether the EU is all that they imagine it to be.
