    Kind of suprised by all the comments here. This video is great great material. Thank you for posting a second one! It doesnt matter how much poker the author actually plays. He is merely talking about different states the mind can be in. That is a topic is a Professional on. He is taking these topics and applying them to the game of Poker. Honestly though, after reading back through my notes, I can apply what he is saying to so many areas of my life its incredible. This could just be called Mastering the Mental Game of Being a Professional at ANYTHING.

    Appreciate the vid. Tough to admit to weaknesses, but I got alot out of this. There are definitely times that fear gets in the way of my logical abilities.... A while ago I came into some money outside of Poker, and at the time my previously precious Poker bankroll became inconsequential. For a few months my game took off because I no longer had any anxiety around what was set aside for Poker. When life caught up to me, this got paid off, I had to get this and that, and I had to start managing what was left of my windfall, I went on a downswing.... Looking back I figured out the connection, and the fact that when I suddenly wasn't concerned about money in general, and by extension the state of my bankroll, fear was totally lifted from my play and as a result I played better. It was a really big lesson for me. It showed me the difference between seeing decisions at the table being about the cards or being about the money. For me one's logical and one's emotional. So I'm definitely always on guard when a decision on a particular street is in front of me, am I considering this action logically or is there any emotion creeping in to influence what I do? Thanx for the vid 👍

    Great video. It took a lot of time to finally realise how bad at mental game I was (tbh i even thought it was my strength). The only thing that stood in my way when moving up and grinding was those times when i would just 'lose it'. I'm grateful to have found this video as it pushed me to the right direction at least.
    Bought both of Jared's books right away, fantastic stuff in there, it is only the beginning and I can already see a difference in my game and the approach.

    Cool point about "Symptom of Fear #2 - Feel rushed to make decision"...As I learn more, I see this also applies to RUSHING OTHERS INTO MAKING DECISIONS. Sometimes I try to rush others into decisions to polarize their range by betting turn when I should think longer about villain's range, especially on low dry flops when high cards turn. Keep up good work. Great stuff. Never give up!!!

    cool man thanks for this .. I had a friend and the best 1-3 player in my casino suggest this to me after I told him it's my biggest weakness .. and man he wasn't lying .. this really helps .. it's basically stuff I already knew about myself but you pin pointed it for me and also gave me a couple tools to combat it .. my dad keeps saying "oh you just gotta leave" or "everyone runs bad so you gotta have loss limits and just go home" and I keep telling him no that's not the problem the problem is me! going home or quitting after two buy ins doesn't fix the problem. so I'm glad you touched on running away from your problems does NOT fix the problem it only masks it. now I can better explain to him where I'm coming from when we disagree on that. I start playing bad because my mental skill needs work and not because of those typical excuses everyone else makes. I gotta look into your books and also any other free content you have open to the public. ty for the free content. took me a few months to actually get off my ass and watch this LOL but after this last session I am absolute fed up with my mental break downs. enough is enough. i luv your approach and you are def a coach i can relate to. so ty.

    It is also true that sometimes when you tilt it helps you - I did learn a lot when I tilted bad and went full LAG aggro while still being a good player. I'm sure I learned how to be a good LAG during tilt sessions where I read situations well, and in my usual game wouldn't try and move them off the hands, when I'm tilted I'll fire the 2.5X pot overbet in good spots and put people in real bad spots. Then it helps you to incorporate the overbets at good times (problem when I'm tilted is the "really, every single hand they are going to have the nuts? - oh of course they have AK and I have QK on a KAK flop!"

      +McGavel1 Regarding Colossus. I could have cashed if I called Mimi Tran with my pocket 8's when i had the read that she had AK and another person had AK also. I couldn't pull the trigger though and didn't triple up near the end of day 1. Got sucked out on for my last 2 hands of the series but played well, considering I hadn't played live poker in 5 years prior.

  • @jasonhounsell3297
    @jasonhounsell3297 5 років тому +1

    Haha the 7 tilts - I've had to deal with all of them except revenge as I've had feuds with regulars and players but it's a calculated levelling where adjustments are being made constantly. Worst by far is the desperation one as it does make you jump up in stakes - sometimes it works ok as your much more alert and it kind of snaps you out the tilt -- bad when your still running bad and the 8% hits against you on a big table and you feel like nothing you can do will ever win. However I can't stand losing sessions.

    I'm 27 been playing since I was 19. Tilt has really almost disappeared. Plus the best part is I know longer have to end up money which was a big problem, after losing several buy ins I can take th day or days of doesn't matter. When I lose serious money say 10+ buy ins I take few weeks off. In the past I'd grind like an idiot these days i get the opposite temptation feel like taking a serious break. If you aren't a calm composed person in your real life, who is pensive and not rash you simply cannot play poker. Poker is for the mentally strong I'm not a great player just average but mental game losses can be the difference between a winning and losing player

    Great video. I just got your book and am excited to read it. Can you explain further "running bad tilt?" Are you saying that it is not a real thing but rather an accumulation of the various other forms of tilt? I don't think I picked up on that theory too clearly. Thank you. Justin

    • @JaredTendler
      @JaredTendler 10 років тому +2

      Running bad tilt is a real thing. People do tilt a lot more when they're running bad. And yes, it is an accumulation of various other types of tilt. The reason that distinction is important is when it comes to solving Running Bad Tilt. You need to figure out the various types of tilt that appear when you're running bad, solve each one and then apply that correction to minimize the accumulation of tilt when running bad. Make sense? Does that answer it?

    Hi Jared, I'm a big fan of your material, but I have to say that I think you made a mistake in regards to saying that "you can't always play your a-game". You seem to interpret "a-game" as the ability to make the best decisions possible and say that it will change over time, but I believe what most players mean by "a-game" is playing to the best of their current abilities and level of understanding. It refers to approaching decisions from an optimal perspective rather than making optimal decisions.

    • @McGavel1
      @McGavel1 8 років тому

      Good points, but he said, "You can't always play your A-game IF YOU'RE ALWAYS IMPROVING." This is because YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW so if you always only play as good as you do now, then you're not improving as much as you could cuz there are ALWAYS MANY ways to improve your game that you're unaware of - ALWAYS ~_^ Keep up good work and good point again. That's just my 2 cents - never give up!

    • "Zen guitar"
    • "Slaying the Dragon: How to Turn Your Small Steps to Great Feats"
    ~ by Michael Johnson, the only person to win the 200m and 400m gold in the same year in the Olympics. He kept getting injured in high school track and couldn't compete in the year's-end track meets due to leg injury year after year.

      You don't need a huge bankroll. You need proper bankroll management and the proper bankroll for the stakes that you are playing. Also you don't take your bankroll to the table. Only a small portion of it. If you're playing at a table a lose a buy-in you by back in.

      dont buy it. The more chips you have in front of you gives you more confidence Its like that with blackjack or any other casino gaming. Ive been playing since 1982 Not poker but BJ Im just starting to get into poker which i should have done at a younger age for i might have made a ton of money if i was playing the last 30 yrs

      Its all about feeling confident when you are on a roll an incredible feeling of invincibility that invokes fear in your opponents . Ivey goes all in with 5 2 off suit after his opponent raises twice while Ivey reraises forcing his opponent to fold with a K 7 When i used to play BJ i would hit with 16 while dealer showed face card and win and beat him the entire night

    JUST LET ME FOLD IN PEACE!The mental game? What drives me crazy is " reverse " bad beats, im talking about folding 9-4o. Only to see that it turned into the nutz in a 3 way huge pot!, Ok it happens , but then your aces get cracked by 5-6 o.
