Costs of airplane ownership vary widely from owner to owner. This video takes an average of the various expenses from existing owners and boils them down to simple to digest numbers. Your ownership experiences will be unique. - Авто та транспорт
I own a v tail. Pretty sport on other then hanger, which of course changes depending on where you are from. The v tail creates a shimmy if you do not have the luxury of a yaw dampner. Overhaul cost is higher then what he said here. 30 k is the absolute lowest you would pay, Howe you will definitely get more then 1700 hours out of the engine
Thanks for commenting. I dont speak the clearest all the time. I quoted 50k for overhaul. Hopefully that's more on par with what you experience
I have 1500 hrs in Vtails and i love them -my experience says that if they have tip tanks the swagger goes away and they are fun to fly in all conditions except icing
@@CompleteWalkaround I think that hopefully it would be closer to 30 lol
Cost of ownership: Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor
If you have to ask.... You can't afford it
$3 per second and staff $20k per day fact (made up)
The ruddervator skins are now BACK in manufacture by Textron!
My dad flew us across the country in a V tail Bonanza back in the late 1960s . Over Iowa the fuel pump suddenly went out and my dad started his crosscheck combined with using the manual fuel pump lever to keep the sputtering engine running. he spotted a dirt runway in some corn fields and then started manually pumping down the landing gear because the rpms were too low to run the gear motor.
he made a smooth landing and before we stopped moving the woman who owned the field was rolling up in her pickup. We stayed in a motel nearby and a mechanic came out and replaced the fuel pump which allowed up to take off the next day and finish our flight.
my parents stayed cool during the entire episode but for the rest of her life my mom would always give us a knowing look when she saw a Bonanza flying overhead
i can confirm. i was the plane
False. The Bonanza gear is electrically powered. The RPM would not be too slow to power it. Furthermore, the manual extension is performed by cranking it down, not pumping it down.
I have owned a 1962 V-tail for 14 years. Your numbers are about right. The airframe is solid and over built so it almost never needs work. All your repair money is the engine, components and gear and flap motors. My insurance is $1500/yr, annual $4000 and about $2-3,000/yr for various parts. I fly about 💯 hrs /yr
This comment was everything I wanted this video to also include.
Anytime I feel guilty about spending too much money on my corvette I can watch one of these cost of ownership videos for any given airplane and I feel better.
Glad to be of service
I had to replace my ruddervators the 2nd year I owned my v35. $15k. Took my mechanic 2 months to find the replacements. 18 years later and haven't had any issues.... thank goodness
What year model?

That's the problem with certified aircrafts. Anyone wanting to make changes or improvements needs to go through so much expensive bureaucracy. Someone should make a similar experimental plane.
I've owned 3 Bonanzas. The V-tail is my favorite. It flies well, and doesn't look like anything else on the ramp!
It always blows my mind that there are Bonanzas flying today that are older than a lot of the Corsairs we used in Korea.
I truly love this channel. Keep up the good work.
Dude these videos are awesome! Cool to see your suscriber count double in the last few weeks.
Keep ‘em coming!
Yessss finally a Bonanza! I have been wiring for this one. Great job on the drawings, keep up the hard work!
Easily some of the most informative and best produced aviation “info” type videos, keep it up man! Would you be able to do a video on the carbon cub fx3/ex3?
I usually don’t comment on UA-cam videos, but I just wanted to say I really appreciate your channel! I’m excited to see what else you come up with!
Love all of your videos! Concise, informative and comes with lovely illustrations!
Putting my name down for the next video, Honda Jet or Cirrus Vision perhaps?
Awesome!! I love this video and I was so looking forward to this aircraft being talked about here :D Thank you!!
i love you!! thank you for this video!!
Watched this video just to see if the ruddervator issue was brought up. Was not disappointed.
Yeessss! I’ve been waiting for this video for so long
Love these videos! It’s honestly impressive that you’ve done all this research. Could you eventually do one on the Blackshape Prime?
Mmmn or just about any European speed microlight, they're all roughly the same so...
@@josephc.9520 Well dang, I didn't know there were so many other similar planes! They all seem pretty cool too, so I'd definitely like to hear about any of them.
BS100 in the queue. Thanks for watching
Spot on! THX for the excellent video!
I owned a V tail with tip tanks and range was closer to 1400nm. Amazing aircraft that I absolutely loved. Hangar and fuel prices are the true variables. $4.20 a gallon in Wisconsin but $7.35 in Colorado.
You do an excellent job with these videos. Short, to the point, well researched and excellent narration.
Thanks Scott
I would absolutely love to see a breakdown of a DHC-6 Twin Otter on floats! I love the de Havilland Canada float planes!!
As someone who is new to aviation, these videos have been super helpful! Great job! In the future would it be possible for you to do a Cessna 310??
Loving the videos lad!
You think you could do a video on the Mitsubishi Mu-2?
I like the brown color scheme of your Bonanza artwork. :) I hope that someone certifies a part for the Bonanza, cos my coworker's flight instructor/friend owns a V-tail Bonanza, if I am not mistaken.
Love the airplane art!
Ruddervator!
Just found this channel love it! Do a Mooney next?
Thanks! There's a m20j there is you check the channel page. More in the future. Thanks for watching
Can you do a video on a PC-12? Great videos!
I just found this channel and I am quite surprised about the adequate information given in such a short time. Could you please do episodes on Cessna 206 and 210 also?
Thanks! 206 is on there. Have a look at my video index. www.completewalkaround.com/pages/videos
Awesome
Would love to see a video on the Velocity V Twin and the Velocity XL-RG kit planes
V tails were made from 1947 to 1982. Over 10,000 were made. Within the family there are many variations and costs. Older models can be gotten pretty cheap but lack of parts availability can hamper ownership. My favorites start with the K35 and later. My absolute favorite is the 1966 V35, lighter than later ones but with the good powerplant/prop combo. S35s are also worth mentioning. Nothing else flies like a V tail, no matter which model.
I have no interest in ever buying a plane. I found your channel somehow by mistake. Yet here I am, having watched every video you have made and now subscribed to your channel! If I could make one request... could you include the cruise ceiling in your videos? No idea why I care, but for some reason I need to know!
Haha, what a great comment. Thanks. I’ll see what I can do about the ceilings.
Google it
I was secretly hoping you’d do this next 😂
Do a six seater please!
Awesome videos! If your looking for video suggestions...
Dehavilland Beaver
Cessna 206
Daher Kodiak
Your numbers are much higher than mine. Not to mention there are a number of strange straight 35’s out there running at less than ten an hour.
So next on the list. Piper Arrows, 177 cardinal b and RG, commander 112 and 114 series,
Please and thank you😁
Please do the Seabear L-65! Thanks!
Cheers mate.
🍻
Thanks a lot. For next time can you compare some aircrafts and find the best compromize between, 3 pax at least and not burning a lot fuel (ecologic) and good abilities. Thank's again
FOR COMPAIRISON: I have an A35 V-tail. These came before the tail fall off issue and are exempt from the AD. I have a 1000 lbs useful load, 750 NM range, and the engine has been upgraded to the E-225-8 225HP engine. My hangar is under $1200 a year because of my location, but my insurance is almost $3000 because of not having a lot of time in complex aircraft. I purchased the plane out of annual for 30k and spent 5k on the annual including repairs and upgrades. I cruise at 145kts on 11gph so my cost of ownership is less than a 182 for a more comfortable airplane.
Hey, pooponyourpage, what year did you buy your plane and what model? Thanks for the info.
@@CompleteWalkaround I have a 1949 A35 I purchased in July last year (2021)
It’s nice but how much does it cost to operate an Airbus ACJ350 ? Interested to buy one for my nephew because he did not like the ACJ320.
(On a more serious side, I find it really interesting although I am not really planning to buy a plane any time soon. Do you think you can do the same for ultralights and possibly helicopters ?)
PA28-235 video one day. And Bonanza video today. The universe is telling me something.
Fortunately I didn’t pass the bar.
Requests: Ercoupe, Cessna 120/140!
Experimental Zenith 601 xl next!!!
I’m formally nominating the PC-12, or a Cessna Crusader
Do the Cessna 206 next!
Please do a Bd4c or Bd4cs version of this video
Can you compare the cost of operating a particular plane now vs some time in the past, adjusted for inflation? I like to think owning a Cessna 150 or something in the past was cheaper than today but idk
70$/h in fuel. I wish! More like 220$/h here in europe
Ouch!! Save the environment by bankrupting anyone who wants to travel, right?
Could you possibly do the piper warriors
Can you do one for the A36?
Can you do the Cessna 414?
Can you do a PA-30
Talk about a DHC2 Beaver pls
Would be awesome if you did a kodiak or caravan.
Ouuuuh, metric units, nice touch ✌🏽cheers from Europe
Can you do the Cessna 177RG
Can ytou do the Cirrus SF50 or the Piper PA38 Tomahawk?
How did you do the graphics/illustrations of the aircraft? They look great!
Thanks! Draw them myself
@@CompleteWalkaround Ah ok. I just hired a guy to illustrate my aircraft. He says it’s not that quickly done…
@@timmholzhauer3342 You got a picture of it online somewhere?
The v35 is my favorite piston aircraft. I will never be able to afford to own one, or any airplane.
Carbon fiber ruddervader in development and will go for STC. That could change the price of V35.
Fingers crossed
I love the look of the V tail but I can’t afford a Bonanza in the long run lol, and it’s way overkill for me anyways. Im looking at a Waiex!
I've seen great things from them. Incredible cruise speeds with certain engines
@@Ichibuns That Jabiru 3300 is sick tho
As my DPE said, "the forkéd-tail doctor killer"
I am thinking about getting a PIPER TOMAHAWK, could you do this if you can, thank you and love the channel!
I would not recommend the Tomahawk. Having flown in that aircraft a lot it is a scary little plane. You get into a stall and the tail starts yo shake like it is going to rip off. Haha that’s why it earned the nickname the TraumaHawk.
Another thing I hated was the seat latching system. You use a pin between your legs to set the seat distance from the yoke. I was landing out in a small airport in Texas and my seat came unlatched and I almost pulled the nose straight up when I slide back with the yoke in my hands.
Look into a Cessna 150 if you are stuck on 2 seaters or even better if you can budget it a DA-20 I flew the hell out of those in pilot training and they are practically gliders with engines. Great little two seaters with an excellent safety record
@@johnmosley5402 oh nice thank you! I just started training! I'm down in Dallas Texasas well actually. Appreciate your input nonetheless
Tecnam p2006?
Now do the G36!!
For sure. Will get there hopefully soon
Cessna 180 or 185 skywagon
Is it, "ruddervator," or, "elerudder," or, "elevator-rudder?"
You should add pictures of the average interior
I tried drawing some panels in the 182 video.
Piper Arrow please. Say something nice.
Ruddervader - sounds like a good name for a villain...
Darth Vader's nemesis. We just need to figure out who has the thicker skin.
next comanche 250
Hmmm what is a good 2 - 4 seater, 1 engine amphibian plane? Preferably a longer range
Lake has some. Or a Cessna 185/206 on floats
@@CompleteWalkaround thanks
Rest in Peace The Big Bopper, Ritchy Valence, Buddy Holly, Pilot Roger Peterson. (I wonder how many got the reference)
hello! what do the reserve and maintenance costs mean? are they per hour or per year?
Those are per hour
How about the non V tail version? Pretty much the same?
We shall see. I'll do them all
The 35 and 36 are heavy planes with big motors , either one you better have deep pockets . When itr comesw time for annual or a motor overhaul you could dump a 100 grand . They are good planes and GA birds go but there is no such thing as cheap in General Aviation and about third of that is rip off .
the AN 2 has been produced for just as long
Its the doctor killer!
"Its" what is the doctor killer?
The cost mer mile, that's per...mile? *Not* nautical mile ?
No Nautical mile. I should update that
Not sure of the exact date but actually the production run is the same as the AN-2, which was also introduced in 1947 and was in production until Russia invaded Ukraine. We'll see if they re-start production after whipping Putin.
Bonanza had a maiden flight in 1945 and entered production in May of 1947. AN 2 only had its maiden flight in August of 47. They continued modifying it until 1948 when production began. Certainly it’s close, but Bonanza has been in production longer.
What’s TBO cuz I forgot
Time before overhauling the engine
@@CompleteWalkaround Thanks
RUDDERVATOR
Unfortunately this is not a plane meant for the middle class enthusiast
the doctor killer!
No, doctors were Bonanza killers.
@@mig29fulcrumflyer basically
Wish the videos were a little longer, 5 mins even 10! Not everyone loves a quick one...😅
Lives claimed by the v-tail bonanza I can remember right now are:
Richie Valens
Buddy Holly
Patsy Cline
Ahh the Doctor Killer. Such an iconic aircraft yet I can imagine the boys doing drifts on the taxi way with a bottle of rum 🍹 cheers next you should do a warbird mate 😎
Surprised you didn't add a disclaimer against doctors buying one.
Ah yes the Doctor killer
" DOCTOR Killer" named in my neck of the woods ! Nice aircraft though
