This nostalgic SAAB car is still popular in the historic class of rallying, even 60 years after the launch of the car model! With its two-stroke engine, it really stands out against its competitors that run on standard four-stroke engines, the Saab almost sounds like one driving and constantly honking!
Film clips from the year 2022 of this old Saab which was once popular as a street car, but which since its launch 60 years ago has disappeared from the streets and instead these are often driven in rally competitions around Sweden.

Amazing sound, unburstable engines. In my opinion they took the heart out of the Saab 96 when the engine was replaced by the Cologne V4.

på farsans gamla 3 cylindriga tvåtakts Saab .

Saab 2-strokes were the first car sound I learned to imitate as a young kid. The local Visiting Nurses Association hq was down the street. Age 3 or 4 I'd hear and mimic the raspy 'ripping' sound the nurses made with their red Saab 2-strokes accelerating and shifting up the street.
Same deep red color as the rallying Saab 96es here.
Eric Carlsson and Gunnar Palm were my heroes when I was a kid, in their SAAB 96 Monte-Carlo 850.

3-cylinder two-stroke
They make a lot of great noise but they don't really go all that fast. Still a lot of fun and my 1960 93F is a riot to drive with its 38 horsepower two stroke.
It is the buzz-bomb sound. Wish I had one!
