  • ☆ in this video, I create a skirt made from neckties! It's a very easy tutorial, and I would love to see what your finished product looks like! Please tag me in your final pieces or dm me on instagram with pictures! Here is a detailed list of steps of the process below, please read through the whole process/watch the whole video before starting on your skirt :)
D.I.Y. TIE SKIRT TUTORIAL by Hannah Valentine 👔
    Supplies needed:
    - Neckties (The amount of neckties needed varies upon person depending on your waist size, I have a 28" waist and I used about 15 ties, please thrift them or ask a family member/boyfriend if they have any ties they don't use anymore, it's a great way to keep this project low-budget)
    - scissors
    - sewing machine
    - thread (I chose black because it matches most colors in the ties I use)
    - soft measuring tape (can use a ruler, but measuring tape is preferred)
    - pins
    - invisible zipper
    - snaps or button (you choose desired closure method)
    1. Measure your waist and the length you'd want for this skirt. For this tutorial, I will be making my skirt 15" long with a 28" waist. I added 2" to the length so I have room to cut it if needed, so I will be cutting the ties at 17" long
    2. Measure length from the bottom point of the tie (17" for my tutorial) and cut tie, flip tie around and measure and cut the same length on the skinny side. One tie will provide you with two pieces: one skinny and one thick piece. Don't cut all of your ties, leave 2 ties out to make the waistband later on.
    3. Once all ties are cut, arrange the ties in the order you'd like to sew them in. Arrange them so every other tie is a skinny one.
    4. Begin on the end and sew the thick-cut tie on top of the skinny tie (sew at an angle where the angle closes at the top)
    5. Work down the line by sewing the larger ties on top of the smaller ties until you've reached the end of the line.
    6. Try on the skirt and see if it fits well.
    7. Assemble waistband by removing lining of the two ties you set aside. Sew them together, right sides facing each other, with an edge stitch.
    8. open seam and press with an iron (not required but highly recommended if you have access to an iron)
    9. trim excess ties at top of skirt and attach waistband by sewing an edge stitch at the top and then a stitch at the bottom of the waistband.
    10. Install invisible zipper and snaps/buttons.
    11. YOU'RE ALL DONE!!!!!! ENJOY YOUR NEW SNAZZY SKIRT!!
