@Randall Slaughter there are some videos were you can kind of hear. The best one is where they do a self load test but you can still barely hear anything. I miss the 710... kinda wish they'd make the 710 EPA complaint and throw it in the new SD70
Rod, thank you so much! I can't tell you how much I resonated with this comment.... Don't get me wrong I love a good hornshow every once and a while but usually I want to hear the engine, not the horn.
You know the engineer is a beast and knew exactly what to do without causing wheel slip! He’s like yea approach signal, 30 mph np, jus watch me throttle lol
Wow dude, That EMD 710 engine BASS is nothing short of brute and powerful. EMD Power is great, 2-Strokers are best! What a great vid this one! Thank you!
Great video. Right at about 1:45 the engineer takes it up a few more notches. Nothing quite as satisfying or like a couple of EMD's doing their job. So much better sounding then a GE.

Not even full throttle when the lead units passed the cameraperson... sounds like Run 6, but still sweet! Nice surprise at the end with the SD70MAC pusher at Run 8.
The dpu units are never at full power atlease I've never heard one don't think that would make a whole lot of sense to be pushing hard at the back and not pull hard at the front dpu units are for slack control and assisting.
It would depend on the grade actually as to what the rear is doing If it's still pushing up grade then it could be pushing harder then the lead units which would keep the slack bunched together
what the DPU throttle setting is at depends on a few things (track profile, company route methodology, engineers feel)....on decent up/downhill grade you will have the DPUs follow the Leads throttle/DB settings....but in some undulating country you may choose to “put up the fence” and control the remotes independantly of the lead to manage run in/run outs by reductions the DPUs throttle settings.....one yard we use to come into on empties we even had the lead in DB and the DPUs in 2 notches of power to control the slack due to the undulating profille....even trains i’ve driven the company went through fuel saving tests by having the dpu’s in idle or 1 notch on their empties ....railroads are looking for efficiency all the time, usually rehashing things from the last 50yrs of DP trains used over the world which us aussies have used since the late 60s

Two SD70MAC's=4,000 horsepower each; a total of 8,000 horsepower. An SD70ACe: 4,400 horsepower. What you've got here is a whopping grand total of 12,400 horsepower moving that train!

I really wish for the sd70ace they would've stuck with mac style windows instead of dash 9 style it would look better and it would fill that bottom part of the window it just looks off.
that's a lot of train for 3 locomotives. I've seen the green 9727 SD 70 MAC in Washington a number of times on coal trains, especially empties going east over Steven's pass
We get coal drags like this on the UP 3 or 4 times an hour in Lawrence KS, but they are following the river downhill here so I can never catch them working just gliding through....
One hundred and thirty one wagons unless I miss counted, that’s some load at say 50 tons per wagon, coal is heavy stuff when crushed ready for the power station to burn,no wonder it needed a banker at the rear.
I bet the rates are cheap at that caravan park for non foamers. But man how I would love to stay there overnight listening to those EMDs howl off into the distance in the middle of the night!
In future, as the end of the train approaches, slowly pan the camera back to to focus on the upcoming DPU unit(s) and you can then do another runby pan of them as well.

Good grief! How long is that train? 😮 Freight trains in the UK are faster, but the locos themselves aren't as big as in the US and they don't pull as much in one go (at least not from what I've seen.) The US freight system is a thing of beauty though, and I love the locos you guys use over there, they're so noisy!

First, the blasting sounds of the EMD & SD70Ace.......then that diamond. Railroading at it's finest.
The most sexiest thing ever constructed by man, is the locomotive.
I wonder how those happy campers are enjoying their beautiful weekend nice get away spot very peaceful
Id do anything to live in that trailer park just to hear this every day.
Those SD70s are beasts!!
This is very well done. Hard to believe that much coal can be moved by only 3 units
The raw power of EMD locomotives on full display! I love the old style SD70MAC's. Gorgeous SD70ACe. Great video!
