SO! True story. I finished and uploaded this video, ready for release earlier this morning, but then I watched it again last night and saw a point in the time lapse at which I thought, "Oh no, I totally effed up that painting." XD I canceled the video schedule, planned to not upload, redo the painting, revamp the video. Then this morning I looked at my painting and thought, this is SO SILLY AND PERFECTIONIST. Critique still totally acceptable- the painting could have gone other ways, if I had different time constraints in painting this week, maybe I would have made something totally different! I keep thinking about perfect being the enemy of good, all the work I had put in this week, and a perfectly lovely painting that I liked, sitting in the other room with my mark of self criticism hanging over it and my deep desire to just share this week's progress and move on to more art- keep working, I had finished this piece! I want to make more and keep learning :) I want to pass on an encouragement to others reading this. Deadlines are ok, being flexible is ok, valuing your work (even when it turns out different than expected) is ok, doing better next time or seeing your progress as good without devaluing where you're at currently- is all ok! I'm excited I get to make videos and new paintings every week and keep growing :) I want to keep sharing where I'm at and keep loving making and making more and more ..mua ha ha. So yeah, I hope you enjoy the video and making your creative work this week! Keep making, keep motivated, keep seeing your worth and joy in creating xo :)
you have inspired me so much !! It makes me really happy to see you posting after a year. This quarantine has been hard on a lot of people's mental health. I was dealing with depression and anxiety, things are a lot better now. And I know I'll get through this. I have started posting on my channel after a year.🥺🌻 Thanks Robin for all the Positive Vibes and Motivation. You're a very strong person.
That could be fun! Doing a bunch of studies, maybe plein air it, try to break down process and figure out a system. I'll definitely think about it! Thank you
Robin Sealark I’ll recommend watching “mind of watercolor’s video about watercolor clouds. It’s good to learn about water/paint control. There are many amazing channels about watercolors on youtube that can help to familiarize yourself with the the medium. You can also find some videos of contemporary masters painting (on channels like Color in your life or the artists own YT channels) It can be hard coming from opaque medium. But watercolors are worth the work and ideal for plen air.
I love clouds... they always remind me of dear friends that save my life everyday. I paint them often, but struggle to capture their majesty and intensity... so thank you for making these lovely videos!
I love how you unapologetically show your under arm hair. An inspiration for challenging “beauty expectations”... because who needs them. The clouds are super pretty too hahaha ☁️
Beautiful painting Robin and I couldn´t tell where you "effed up" in your opinion. Thats the funny thing is that we all see things so different. And I think it is even more important to share those moments and like you said your artistic jorney. Keep creating!
Robin Sealark yes doing art helps me keep going through some personal struggles and you gave me inspiration to paint.... waves and clouds and trees haha, i find it very calming. Just i hate doing refractions!
I started watching you videos a couple years ago, your channel was one of the ones that actually got me into painting. I am so grateful that it did because I love your videos and I now love to paint!
I love your art and videos! Thanks for being such a great teacher, for keeping it real, for being your true self and inspiring myself and others 💕 your playfulness, honesty, and humanity are all part of why you're one of the only artists I follow on UA-cam
Wow! 😍It has so many details and yet, it's not too detailed. There's still that softness and air that really makes those clouds look so realistic! Amazing work! 😍👌
Trying to get out of a depression rut and paint a new concentration for grad school, and your art and personal journey has really inspired. Thanks for all you do and being you.
I love love love your art work. I totally understand thinking like it’s messed up but I’m glad you reminded yourself that it’s an amazing piece of art!

my Dad last night say to me why u keep painting clouds all of sudden and actually i have no answer I'm just in love with them lately 💖 thank u for your inspirations 😘
I love watching your videos and seeing you create your art. You are truly inspirational and so amazing, you should believe in yourself more! I know how difficult this is , I do believe in YOU! I do believe that you are on a road of discovery and I am just so glad you are bringing us along with you! You might not see the image in your minds eye, yet there is so much beauty in this painting. Believe in your own beauty and your ability to create beautiful art. Please note that I did not say beautiful picture, but beautiful ART! Please take care and be safe!
Looks beautiful! It is so cool to see that same reference painted by someone else, the difference in skills, color choices and execution. I always wanted to paint clouds but I always struggled to get that fluflly look. I dont know if you would like to see my version but it is "EXPECTACTION X REALITY - Oil Painting Clouds -Ep 01"
Just getting stuck on one of those “ is it sunset/ is it sunrise?” paintings right now. For a therapist friend of mine. How to stimulate thinking without directing. Thanks for the considerations.
hey guys, has the skies gradient in your regions been much stronger blue since the covid downturn? silly strong blue stuff here in central europe. can't stop looking at it. (should be sketching my 7th portrait in 7 days, not typing, darn!)
most of the time! I mess around with different processes as well. on smaller things, i'm interested in going straight for oils right now to try to expedite and see if I like the effects as much. Generally I do a transfer drawing and then fill in the canvas very loosely, blocking in my color and establishing form with something quick drying like acrylics. then I can use that as a base to work on top of and more fully develop my color and details. The oils help with making more smooth gradients and deepening vibrance.
Hey Robin I have been painting for around 2 years 3 on Christmas as I cant remember the exact day and Christmas was the first time I got paint and a few canvases and that's what got me into painting and I'm alright I'm still very much a newbie and I wanted to know what are at least 5 things that would help me improve and to keep a healthy mindset about my art so I can advance and get better at my art and I love your videos and right now I have really small canvases (most are 8x6) and I have bigger ones but I'm scared to use them because I don't want to mess up and I don't have anything to set my art up right on so I'll have to ask my mom about that but what is something I should draw because one thing I want to get good at is drawing people and I want to teach myself how to blend colors from the highlights of the face to where there are shadows.
:P thanks! I dunno ha I like being hairy. I just trimmed, they were full grown here, but yeah I stopped shaving my legs and armpits this year just to try it, see what I thought, how I felt, what it even looks like, and I love it this way. It's liberating! and easy, comfortable, no razor burn, no worry if I forget to shave or have stubble, and I know this makes me sound extra hippie XD, but sometimes I think my hairy legs and pits look cute. I shave if I feel like it, but yeah ha thats my feels. I think shave or don't shave, is ok to like your body how you like it :)

Hah yeah. Maybe it’s not that? But yeah it is! I thought a lot about taking body ownership and general physical self acceptance this year, making my own choices about how I dress and shave, whether I wear wake up, dispelling some ideas I had about body shame. It was real nice :) I feel pretty good these days. if I wanna shave, I do, if not, I paint or something else instead hah. Thank you for such nice comments. That really means a lot ❤️😊

AAHH awesome video as always! Excited to try oil painting, once i can afford to buy materials 😅
ooh yeah dude, i feel, they are steep xo
Oh wow, you replied!
Try Faber Castell’s starter oil set :) it was my starting set for oil painting and they are honestly very good! And not so hurtful on the wallet.
Youll have to go to Faber Castells website though. Theyre not on amazon

Do you have any tips on how to not over blend?
I believe you can help cause i don't understand other peoples tutorials except yours :3
