I performed a flamenco dance on a Star Trek Cruise, and after the piece, James came up to me, and with the exuberance with which we all recognize in him, and hugged me and gave me a kiss on the cheek and said, "That was incredible! I have never seen never seen anything like that." He gave me confidence, and I thought he was exceptionally sweet.
I started watching Star Trek with the first episode in 66'.. I was twelve years old...even read about the show before it came on TV..in TV guide... Scottie' will always be a fond memory for me. It's poetic that some of his ashes were sent into space.
James Doohan lost his finger while exiting the landing craft on D-Day. He was shot eight times. He says so himself in an interview right here on UA-cam. Pay double attention!
Mother Earth will never be the same, losing Scotty and McCoy, I don't know if we will be able to get beamed up without the talents of James Doohan and his Irish wit????????? I AM DEEPLY SADDEN BY THE PASSING OF HIM AND I ONLY WISH THAT I WILL GET BEAMED UP TO JOIN HIM AGAIN !!!!! THANK YOU MR SCOTT FOR MAKING MY EARLY YEARS TRULY INSPIRING AND I WILL ALWAYS BE LOOKING UP TO THE SKY..........
I only met James Doohan once briefly at a convention in the early 90's. Signed an autograph for me, very nice guy. Never met DeForest Kelley, wish I could have.
Met him once almost 30 years ago. My friends used to run conventions and I would help them out working security. We took him out to dinner afterwards. What an affable soul he was. He told us stories that had us laughing so hard we were crying. He was so grateful for the chance to appear, and even more so, it seemed, to sit with a group of people and not be "Scotty"...
"I'M DOIN' THE BEST I CAN!" One myth that must be addressed is the following: They NEVER said, "BEAM ME UP, SCOTTY!" on the show! "Scotty, beam me up!" was said in "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home."
I met him at a barns and noble book signing about a year or so before he died and I thought to myself then, that he was looking abit under the weather. its sad and he will be missed by all who knew him and all who knew of him.
Fortunately, I was able to meet him and Deforest in Atlanta at the Sheraton Biltmore-my first big convention in the 70's. He and De were very kind and friendly. He even sang the song he did in the animated episode. Beautiful baritone voice. Didn't get to hear De sing until "Star Trek5". He used to sing for WSB radio I heard. Dr died just a little over a month after my Mother died. Both were 79.
ITS SAD HE DIED A YEAR AFTER I GRADUATED IN 2004 AND ON THE DAY I VISITED SCOTLAND I 2005 THEY NEWS CAME IN THAT HE CAME IN ON BBC SKY SCOT NEWS AND ALOT OF OTHER SCOTTISH CHANNELS I ACTUALLY VISITED RIDDRIE CEMETARY THE SAME CEMETARY MY SISTERS HEART WAS BURIED IN 2001 I SAW AND HEARD ALOT OF STAR TREK VOICES AND THEME SONGS AS I CAME TO THE SITE THEY WERE BURING HIS STARFLEET UNIFORM AND SUCH MEMORABILIA IT WAS VERY HEART TOUCHING THE LAST WORDS I HEARD FROM THEM IN SCOTISH LANGUAGE WAS ITS TIME TO SEND U UP ABOVE INTO HEAVING ....SCOTTY ITS TIME TO BEAM U UP
MIND MY TYPOS HEY NEWS CAME IN THAT HE CAME IN ON BBC SKY SCOT NEWS AND ALOT OF OTHER SCOTTISH CHANNELS .....THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO SAY THE NEWS CAME IN ON BBC AND SKY SCT NEWS AND ALOT OF OTHER CHANNELS
theGhoulman wtf is thst supposed to mean , we celts dont always yell , and as I told him my capslock got stuck on my keyboard and I couldnt turn it off to go back to lower case
A VERY MUCH LOVED ACTOR HAS LEFT THIS MORTAL LIFE TO BEYOND THE VEIL, MAY HE NOW REST IN ETERNAL PEACE. I ALWAYS LOVED THE HAPPY GO LUCKY SCOTTY WHO WAS A FAVOURITE. YOU HAVE BEEN BEAMED UP.
I wish I could of met them, but Mr. Deforest kelly died two days after I was born, and I had no idea who James Doohan was untiil a year ago. I regret not being able to meet two wonderful people.
I grew up in the 1970s with bad learning disabilities and had no real friends. I could NEVER do anything or say anything right. I was always the goofball/idiot. I was treated like a dog and called "retard" by my classmates and looked upon with contempt by my teachers. Back then Bullying was AOK and not an issue. However there was always the original crew of the USS Enterprise to bring some happiness in my life. I really never did learn things from my own adopted family. I had to learn everything on my own. In all reality sitting in front of the TV watching Star Trek was like having a surrogate family/friends you could experience things and learn ideas and concepts from. I know I probably sound pathetic to those of you who had everything growing up - friends, popularity, success, respect of peers, wide open life opportunities, undamaged brains, talent, skills, etc. I post this NOT in a pathetic attempt to solicit sympathy from you all but to explain how much people like William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, James Doohan meant to a disenfranchised and cast off young person such as myself. Pathetic and contemptible story but true. God Bless James Doohan.
Actually the phrase "Beam me up Scotty" was never said in any movie or TV show. The closest that was said was in Star Trek IV.Kirk said "Scotty,..Beam me up."
Ironic thing is, the phrase "Beam me up Scotty" was never an actual quote from Star Trek. In Star Trek 4, Kirk says "Scotty beam me up." , but that's the closest thing we got.
With all due respect to James Doohan....he was not a WW2 pilot. He was in the artillery....he even said so in this video. Pay attention! Anyhow, he is still a hero in every sense of the word.
I notice that Kirk & Spock weren't at this event. IMO it always seemed like w/the exception of those 2, the rest of the cast was closer & more like a family & seemed to stick together more. (some of them even hated Shatner). Also, the rest of the cast was often grossly underpaid for their appearances in ALL the Star Trek movies/series. Although much to his credit, when Nemoy was executive producer of Star Trek 6, he made sure that Kelley received a $1 million salary, his highest ever.
i wonder if his real alcohol issue had anything to do with his rapid health decline, he drank a lot, i met him when i was a child when my dad was drywalling doohan's daughters mother in law unit in LA, he was carrying scotch with him every time i saw him, doohan then proceeded to get my dad and his drywalling partner drunk, needless to say that job took longer than anticipated.
A kind and generous man. He lifted the spirits of many people and inspired some to become engineers. He is dearly missed.

I met him once. What a pleasure! A really lovely man and delightful teller of stories along with being a fine actor.
When I was younger I had a crush on him. Rest in Peace.
My favorite Star Trek character. A wonderful man, in real life. God blessed us all with him.
We miss you, Scotty! Thank you for your wonderful contributions to Star Trek... wouldn't have been the same without you!
He star on the Walk of Fame was many years overdue.
He shall forever be missed.
R.I.P. Leonard Nimoy!, Mr. Spock!!!, now you are reunited with Dr. McCoy and Scotty!
I started watching Star Trek with the first episode in 66'.. I was twelve years old...even read about the show before it came on TV..in TV guide... Scottie' will always be a fond memory for me. It's poetic that some of his ashes were sent into space.

I wish I could thank him in person for his service on D-Day and for saving a woman from suicide.
The funny thing is despite it being associated with him, Beam Me Up Scotty was never said in Star Trek.
Closest they ever got, was Beam US up, Scotty.
SO TRUE..."three to beam up Mr. Scott..."
kadindarklord
In Star Trek 4, Kirk says, "Scotty beam me up." , but that's the closest thing we got.
Thanks for this. He was a good actor and a good man.

RIP Scotty and Bones. Missing you guys very much!
Just wish the media mention he was a D-Day Veteran. He didn't have to Act to play a Hero.
I met him at a barns and noble book signing about a year or so before he died and I thought to myself then, that he was looking abit under the weather. its sad and he will be missed by all who knew him and all who knew of him.

It was always weird to here him talk without that Scottish accent, which I used to think was genuine
We still miss you, Scotty.
rest in peace scotty... rest in peace

I wish I could have given him a big bear hug when he was alive.
I wonder......if one of these days, sometime in the future, there will be an engineer on a Earth Starship named " Scottie "
The world will be a much sadder place without him, I hope God has a place for Mr. Scott.
A strange thing is I live only 20 miles away from where he lived
My Brother got to meet him and get his Autograph while filming the Duke, said he was a real nice guy.
i wish i could of meet him 😢 rip james doohan
I met him in 1998. Very sweet man
A VERY MUCH LOVED ACTOR HAS LEFT THIS MORTAL LIFE TO BEYOND THE VEIL, MAY HE NOW REST IN ETERNAL PEACE. I ALWAYS LOVED THE HAPPY GO LUCKY SCOTTY WHO WAS A FAVOURITE. YOU HAVE BEEN BEAMED UP.
He will be miss. :'( In the new films, Simon Pegg will never ever be better than Jimmy. RIP.
The JJ Star Treks are an abortion. I don't even recognize them as Trek.

Irreplaceable... no actor like him.
With all due respect to James Doohan....he was not a WW2 pilot. He was in the artillery....he even said so in this video. Pay attention! Anyhow, he is still a hero in every sense of the word.

Oops! I meant another video. LOL I guess I need to pay attention too. Nevertheless, he was in the artillery and lost his finger at Normandy Beach.
The character was Scottish but you're right :( They will be missed
