Thanks Ron. Another very clear explanation.

Thank you for the feedback glad to know you thought it was a clear explanation. I hope it saves people from having to run the scanner through multiple times like I used to because at the time I thought the scanner zoomed optically. If it were to use a optical zoom it would be a clearer picture than digital zoom but since it is not optical it makes little difference. The only time I still use the zoom on the machine is on 3 inch reels and I am going to run it through neat video to clean up the digital noise. Not because it has less noise but I can see it better and I like to take film directly to neat video because neat video does a tiny bit better job when it is directly from the machine. Sometimes software adds duplicate frames especially if you slow the film down to the proper speed at least VideoStudio Pro does. I hope to do some tutorials on neat video but because I clean swimming pools and it is summer probably be a while before I have time. Thanks for the reply

I think you're wrong about the digital zoom. I think the sensor moves closer. It moves all other directions for framing so i think it moves up and down too. If it was digital zoom it wouldn't change the brightness

I do not blame you for thinking this, but Wolverine Data told me it was digital before I took it apart. I took it apart to see and make sure because I thought the same thing as you, why would the brightness change. It was very observant of you to notice the brightness change as well and its possible implications. I thought the same thing that is why I took it apart. I still don't know why the brightness changes. Thanks for the comment.

As my first attemp at commenting on youtube, I can;t see my recnt comment. Anyway since my comment I discovered a mistake. I enjoyed the cropping vidoes on 8mm film. I was starting to try this on my late parents films. In previous comment I stated that my software desk top looked different due to being a different version. As I did not have the various scale/linear button, and others used in your video. I have no realised I have Movie Edit Pro Premium software and not Video Pro as I thought. I was asking whether you could advise me on how to acheive the same as your demo. There is no Croppping effect in this latest version as such only Section effect. Which does appear to produce a similar effect. Currently my 2021 version at last had an update but my software became 2022 with bugs and lost all my 2021 settings. Magix are working on this but have now got most settings back. Any help would be a great help in editing my films.

I know in Video Studio Pro I often have to go into setting and then Layout and reset it to default to get the edit features to look back the way I am used to. It is a glitch in Video Studio Pro I believe. The layout will change on its own its very annoying. See if you do not have a default setting somewhere in you software. I am completely unfamiliar with your software. Sorry that is the only thing I can think of.

@@super8tovideo I thought you were using Vegas Video Pro or Magix Video Pro X as the layout looks similar? Now I see you are Video Studio Pro and my confusion. Regards Bill.

The cropped part of the scanned image has less than 50% of the resolution of the scanned image, so why scan the oversized frame at all. If you scan the entire frame from the beginning, you get a much bigger resolution for that frame and so the better quality film in the end.

Whether the machine does the digital zoom or software does the digital zoom you should end up with similar resolution. I have never been able to tell the difference which zoom I use the machine or software.

@@super8tovideo If you use an HD camera to take the photo of the 8mm frame and use only 50% of the area for that frame, it has only 50% of the HD resolution. If you then crop that frame, the result is not HD anymore, it is about half of it. IMHO.

@@Ericus55 That assumes that the actual recording is 1080P resolution and not just the capture resolution.
