      Hi Gary, I saw this comment when it came through and it has taken me this time in working out how to reply.
      For you to say that, is just amazing. You know I consider you to be the best person to go to for advice on segmenting.
      This was quite a simple process and design to do.
      The end result depended on the accuracy of the cuts.
      I have to admit, with pride, I nailed it on this one.
      I will be doing a Triple Celtic Knot in the New Year, again something I have done before but never nailed it so wish me luck.
      Sorry Gary, I've rambled on enough so will end with a huge thank you.
      Take care my friend.
      Cheers, Huw

      Hi Bill, Thank you so much for watching the video, I appreciate it. I have only ever done Double and Triple Celtic Knots Pens (30, 45 and 60 Degree) using a band saw.
      I don't think it would work on a table saw as the kerf is too wide and all the inserts would just "melt" together.
      I think it would work very well on something like a Rolling Pin.
      I would love to know what you think.
      Thanks again Bill.

    Very cool pen. Love the knot. It came out beautifully. 1 question, is the double veneer the same thickness as the kerf of your bandsaw blade? That has been my holdup for attempting this process. Guess I need to go get some veneer and het to it.

    • @WoodenItBeNice
      @WoodenItBeNice  3 роки тому

      Hi Doug, Thank you very much. Yes the two layers are the same thickness as the kerf on my bandsaw blade. If you only put one piece of veneer in the cut the knots won't align properly. Another lovely pen Huw 👍🏻 I noticed you used carbide tools on the pen, is there a benefit to use them above traditional tools? I’ve got some carbides but I just don’t get along with them especially the round ones I get some wonderful catches 🤣. Keep well Cheers Steve

    • @WoodenItBeNice
      @WoodenItBeNice  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Steve, Thank you very much. When I first started turning pens I used a skew. When I started segmenting I bought the carbide (over 2 years ago) I used in this video. The trick with carbides is very high speed, I normally turn at around 2300 to 2500 RPM, light cuts and keep the carbide at 90 degrees to the piece (parallel to the bed) and at center height.

      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment Steve.
      This video was made nearly 3 years ago and if you have watched any of my more recent video you will notice a distinct lack of music.
      I have made a few videos which go into more detail on how to cut the blank to get the Celtic Knot effect and this is one of the links; ua-cam.com/video/I6gtjWQaaUQ/v-deo.html
      I fully understand that some people may already know how to finish and assemble a pen but it is not always the case and I try to show the full process of making a pen to accommodate for people's differing skill and experience levels.
      Hope you find the video informative.
      Take care Steve.
