Makes a lot of sense to put a barra in a patrol over an Ls, reason being is because they’re capable of high torque figures which is what matters when towing camper trailers boats etc and even out on the sand tracks too. Also they’re cheap af, parts available everywhere and very easy to work on. I was going to go LS conversion in my gu even tho I have a 420rwkw fg xr6t ute I wanted the 8 to have best of both worlds but I think I’ll go the barra. Add to that ls was designed to be in a commy where as the barra was also put in heavier cars like the territory. Very versatile engine.

How much money had to be spent on it? I've seen a few and even driven one. Can make great power but a patrol is just too heavy

The tractive effort and larger than most torque bands works well with a heavy vehicle. The territory weighs more than a patrol ute.

BlazingDipper Yo quarter of the price of an ls swap twice as easy and half the time for full conversion too better fuel economy and can make just as much power

@@hardasphuk7633 My mate from work and a couple of his mates barra swapped their gu's and rekon its the opposite. He rekons the LS costs twice as much and is way harder. Maybe that's because they already knew what to do though but he did the whole Barra swap with a ZF6 Auto for 7500 including parts, labour, everything

They have thicker rods than the standard non turbo engine, basically the same as turbo rods
