They need to update the whole economy system. Selling a 160k ship for 25k is bullshit. Then the vendor sells it for 160k. Dont even get me started on contraband...
i agree. it makes sense that they would need to make a profit and therefore pay you less than full value, but even a pawn shop will pay you half of what your stuff worth. a ship should be worth at minimum 50%, probably closer to 65%
That’s what it should sell for unregistered - it should sell for like 80% if it’s registered. That would match closer to what it is in real life. You’ll never be able to sell a stolen car for anywhere near it’s normal selling price - you’ll be lucky to get 10% for it. But if you own it and have the legal title? Then you can sell it for fair market value. The way it works in the game is fairly realistic, actually - other than I doubt at any point in any future science fiction universe that a fully functioning space ship of _any_ size would ever fetch the same price as a nice assault rifle. That part is a bit fubar. They really should’ve just scaled up the price of the ships significantly, or made them sell for a different currency that has a huge conversion ratio or something.
I love the fact that they knew their economy system sucked then they decided to patch the puddle glitch. They deemed that so important that it was one of the first patches. But yet still, every 1 out of 10 times I take off in my ship, half of it stays on the landing pad 😂
FYI - Registering ships is cheaper in the menu IF you have commerce skills. Registering your ship with the tech is based off the ship price, so when you increase your commerce skill, you increase the ship price which increases the registration price. That's why it's cheaper in your menu, which is the default NO COMMERCE skill price. Pointless to the topic at hand, but that's what's going on.
Also you do not have to hit the buttons at the exact same time. It doesn't register the action until you release the buttons. So be on your home ship casually press and hold both buttons at your own pace, now the key is to release the buttons at the exact same time. So don't be to concerned about hitting the buttons perfectly because its not necessary. The release of the buttons is the only thing that matters.

They could have gated selling or modifying stolen ships behind a mid tier master rank, similar to starship design. How is it that looting a red notepad makes people shoot at you but a stolen space ship is totally fine. The game doesn't have enough criminal traits and bonuses to chase.

Do so in the Key or Den and your ship isn't spawned to make direct changes. I never tried it but Neon might work since the planet is pure ocean.
Just did this with 3 ships in a row on PC and honestly it's not hard. You have to click next ship then .1 second after hit enter and you'll get to sell the ship for full price. I think it's ok to say they haven't patched it yet. Neither the glitch or the economic system for the most part
I think the registration fee is absurdly high. But, (this will be an unpopular opinion) I think it has its place in the game as an "anti piracy" measure. That said, I would like to see spaceports in systems controlled by Ecliptic or Crimson Fleet; just buy the stolen ships, no questions asked. Or maybe have the option to bribe the ship techs a few thousand credits to do the deal without registration. Maybe tie it to the negotiation skills.
Exactly its like ok if it need to be in the game that fine but we need SOMETHING like the Thieves' guild from Skyrim where we can take advantage of selling stolen ships if we join certain factions. Even Elder Scrolls online has these areas in the sewer system. Its not like this is anything unfamiliar to Bethesda.
Ive read that Deimos Staryard & the Stroud-Eklund Corporate HQ in Neon have 160k. Ill confirm this later. Also at the end of my video I show how to replenish his credits sleeping on Venus. Doesn't take too long to do.
Talk with the modeers and devs about bigger bays like two or tree times wide as normal so they can put like a land cars or turrets into them or more troops when the ship lands to unload People or robots 😮
That would be awesome. I bet the modders could do it! Cant wait until Creation kit tools for modders are released. Going to breath new life into this game no doubt.
Try to make the unregistered ship your home ship. Back out of the menus talk to the ship tech again. Now set a registered ship you own as your home ship, do not leave the dialog prompt at this point. Click see what ships you have for sale, change it to sell, and the ship you are trying to sell should be in your last slot.
@@circuitscore so I used it on the 3rd and it worked and then I think an update happened and then on the 4th the next day after the update it won't work for me I hope I'm wrong!!!
This trick has been "discovered" by a few different content creators such as yourself. But you have explained it a bit more than the others on how to do it on PC. Tnxs for the vid. I do not have this game but I am saving all sorts of Starfield vids to rewatch later on when I get this game. Me personally I will use a program to preform the multibuttoned sale. I could probably do it with button and mouse but I like to use "Voice Attack" as much as possible.
PC takes some persistence and very good timing. Ive found it actually works better to Click on the Q button and hit Enter on the Keyboard. It has to be in succession of each other within milliseconds but you have to Click Q and then Enter slightly overlapping releasing the mouse click almost instantly. Ill admit it is pretty tough to do but not impossible.
@@circuitscore Thats the trick! I tried 100 times pressing Q and enter, then Q and left clicking enter. 2nd time left clicking Q and pressing enter worked. And someone else mentioned its the release that matters for timing, not the clicking. You can click and hold and then release.
Why would you fly to another planet system just to sleep? Just go back in your ship and sleep or sit in a chair or your cockpit and "Wait" for 48 UT hrs. All vendors replenish after 48 UT hrs which is one full 24 hr "Local" sleep cycle at Jemison. By the time you did everything you just said, you could have had about 2-3 sleep cycles in.
You know you got a good point between finding venus, the loading screens, landing, sleeping, traveling back its probably way faster to just wait 24hrs in the ship. Edit: I was just thinking about this and I think I tried that originally. I think ship vendors take longer to replenish their credits hence why Venus is necessary. Ill test it out later today. Edit 2: Sleeping 24 Hours in Jemison does not work. Ship vendors do not reset credits the same as other vendors. I had to go to Venus and sleep 6 hours (600 universal hours) to get him to replenish his credits.
Exactly especially when the ship tech sell them for 10 time what you can sell them for and that's before registering them. I think they need to remove registration fees or at least make them WAY lower.
This still works, but in my experience, only on an Xbox controller, and only when you entered the buy/sell UI with a controller. Can't for the life of me get it to work with Q+Enter or Q+left click on Sell button.
Til the game is fixed I'm not taking anymore ships to sell. My first runthru on xbox X I saved while in combat with Ecliptic trying to board their ship before it flew off without a crew. It corrupted ALL my save files. I deleted most of them and started back from 3 weeks before. The moment I acquired a new ship besides Frontier my saves were all corrupted again. All my saves names were auto changed to "Ecliptic Combat A-01" as well as the name of my ship. Also whenever I'd try to land on planet. I'd get dropped from orbit while I could see my landed ship a few hundred meters away while I plummeted to my death
The Astral lounge is the only legal venue to purchase aurora, and yet, you can't buy any in there! There isn't a single bar or bartender in the whole place. 🤔
Hahaha yeah this game has a lot of oversights like that. You can get Aurora from the bar in Neon Euphorika. Once inside you can talk to the bartender to buy access to the exclusive member only lounge area where you can buy it.
Hey update… if you go to the ship on the right of the ship you wanna sell it’ll work that way too So if you do the LB and A on the ship to the right it’ll sell the ship on the left
Yeah yeah! Thanks for the heads up. Before I made this video I didnt realize you could go wither way between LB or RB. It works as long as its going from a ship you own to a ship you dont own. Cant be unregistered to unregistered. I actually made an updated video explaining this process.
I get that you can't allow ships to be sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars right off the bat, hence the registering fee. Otherwise the economy would be completely ruined, everyone would be a pirate and there'd be no point in the whole kill, loot, sell cycle that Bethesda games are so known for. But I think they coulda helped fix that by having multiple Commerce type skills. The first one as it is now on a beginning tier effecting all weapons and items, allowing them to be sold for more than normal. Then a second skill in the Master tier, or somewhere further down the tree, which only effects ship selling prices. That way, if you really wanna make easy creds, it's locked behind a good amount of skill points and towards end game. The skill shouldn't allow you to sell for 100% of the value obviously but at least double what it is now I'd say. When a Class C ship sells for 1/10 the price of a throwaway gun I have, there's no point in flying that thing all the way back to a landing pad.
Because the pricing is very bad. If we look at our real world, a few decade old c5 galaxy cargo plne is sold as used for like 200 million dollars. Based on the prices there, where they ask you for a space hamburger 70 creds, a combat vessel should be priced at least 10 million in A class and a c class to start from 100 million. Remember, the player can get up to a few billion creds as a maximum sum, Outposts should cost a lot more resources and ship cargo capacity should be at least 10x larger, if not 50x. The economy mechanic is not balanced at all in this game. Mandatory registering is a stupid thing in general, but it becomes evident when you go to the red mile and that tech doesn't give a crap, so in turn you should be able to flip ships there without a register and with the crimson fleet, it should be quite obvious not to be needed. But the game says it is. Also, once you change a reactor there should be a complete loss of your whereabouts and bounty on your head once you change ships and clothes. For a 2023 game, starfield is severely 2 decades old outdated in game mechanics and economics balancing. Starfield is the diablo 4 of this type of open world games. Stupid rinse and repeat for getting a new equipment with slightly better stats, farm the mobs in hack and slash. It is fun, but sadly is just lame, clearly not worth the 70 dollar asking price. 17 dollar is a fair price for Starfield, seeing you get fallout 4 with all dlcs for 10 dollars.
It’s a single player game! We wanna risk piracy, let us sell those ships! Or at least let us sell unregistered ships to the Crimson Fleet or something, so that there’s a good reason to actually side with them.
@@DomDomPop 100% agreed. They need to implement something like the theives guild where we can sell stolen ships items etc. Crimson fleet hideout would be a perfect location. I feel like this game has a lot of missed opportunities like that.
@@circuitscore Exactly. Honestly I’m pissed that the UC and Crimson Fleet factions are ultimately incompatible. I mean, I get it lore-wise, but it kinda sucks that you have to either leave the last quest unfinished or pick a side, and it clearly incentivizes going UC over the Fleet. Something like this would balance that out a bit.
anyone know if the crewless ship bug is being recognized / worked on by bethesda?? can't steal ships as it stands right now (in my game and many others)
I have to agree on some of these mechanics with economy is just ridiculous... I mean you can go and steal one of those lunch box looking ships and they have a value of around a quarter million credits, and then turn around to go sell it and you're barely even making 10%. I think you have to raise your skill level in economy or whatever merchantile. But even then we only get up to 25 to 35% increase in value on what you're selling. And I'm not even sure if it even applies to ships.
Yeah the economy in this game makes no sense. They should have at least given us a place to sell unregistered ships to an underground market or something like that.
Bethesda has a lot bugged mission,(neon hotel room/the well door/ give the letter on mars/ or simply game crashes and now im not mentioning to we watch the playtime 1/3 part loading screens) asked them to fix them since from release... Answer... "and so?....." Also Bethesda after they saw your video (or any like this), well in the next update which probably in a few days later we gonna read "fixed a selling issue" 👏
This actually worked, I'm pleasantly surprised. Absolute horseshit that I have to pay 90% of the resale value to "register" a ship just so I can sell it.
They never patched it! I hope it never gets patched! Agreed though. They should at a minimum have a place where we can sell stolen ships for more money like a theives guild type situation. The economy in this game makes no sense haha.
Hey so I just tried this right now on the Xbox Game Pass version and it does still work however it is much much harder to achieve. It is a very quick tap and it doesn't always work. Takes some persistence. It would seem they may have attempted to patch this in the last hotfix as it is much harder now.
Im not getting full price when done correctly , i get whats around the registering price to sell it for , thats still pretty good , tried a spacer coyote ll and am getting roughly 38k
You will only get the full value of what us as the player will be able to sell it for. The inflated value you see in your menu is what the ship techs will sell them for which is also ridiculous in of itself. If you ask me the economy in this game is wack.
@@circuitscore it turns out it was just a one off thing. Now I have to do the glitch haha. Shit I don’t know why we have to register ships just to sell them, you should only have to do that if you were to customise a ship you just got. And they should have a ship service kiosk for stolen ships like they do with trade authority. If they were gonna do a way for us selling ships without registration legit
@@jensensphotography4570 100% agreed they need at a minimum a shady place like in the Key or something to sell unregistered ships. As for farming ships check out some of my recent videos. I have a lot of tutorials where to find some solid ships and how to steal them.
Its safer though if you do start on your home ship so you don't accidentally sell a ship you don't want to since the game wont let you sell you home ship. Good to know though!
Did you try with a controller plugged in or with Q and using your mouse? Ive found it much easier to use a controller and then switch back to K+M once Ive made my rounds.
First off the ships should be more 'guarded' than they are, it is entirely too easy to steal them. But I do agree the registration fee is nonsense. I use the console to reimburse it.
Best sleep of my life! 😂 Ship Vendors aren't like standard vendors. They require much more time to replenish their credits for some reason. Otherwise if just go sleep on my ship for 24 hours on Jemison.
Beyond me! At a minimum they need something like the thieves guild in Skyrim where you can sell stolen ships without having to register them. Or if they were to keep the registration fee make it no more than 15 percent.
Ahh ok, I hate playing space sims with controllers do thatd explain it. I couldn't figure out how to get no man's sky to work with keyboard and mouse while in vr either. I loved playing elite in vr with keyboard mouse and voice command
2 things, 1: you don't even have to be in space, just not at the ship tech. 2: It's only cheaper if you have the commerce skill. Without the skill it's the same price whether in space or at the ship technician. And technically it's not cheaper, it's just that the game calculates the registration fee based on the ship's price which is higher if you have the commerce skill.
1. How do you get a ship in your inventory without registering it? Fly back to a planet every time you take one? 2. I havent tried this yet but at Red Mile theres a ship tech named Lon Andersen. When you talk to him he says something about not caring if you have your ship's papers because he hates his job. Can you sell to him for full price? It would make sense considering his dialog and the state of Red Mile.
Check out my other video on stealing free star ships from moons. There are a few different methods. If you fly the ship it goes in your inventory unregistered and if you sit in the pilot seat and set it as your home ship in menu it goes in your inventory unregistered. Not sure at Red Mile. Haven't run into that scenario yet. Ill have to check it out.
100% agreed. The ship techs will sell the same ships back to us for like 10x the price meanwhile we cant even get 20 percent of what is already an awful sell-able value as it is. Id be ok with them either removing it or making the registration costs WAY lower.
Honestly, the fact that we've to register things that we've stolen to sell them is ridiculous. Why am I stealing this ship? Then I'm stealing the ship. They should have a vendor like maybe part of the pirate Fleet that buys stolen ships. But you don't have to register them
You know Bethesda will fix this in time. They have to be the fun police. I don't understand why the won't give players more freedom to play how they want, because they are already doing it with mods and console commands.
Yeah I really hope they ignore some of this stuff and focus on the game breaking mission bugs instead. Like its super weird they patched the vendor chest glitch considering those same type of glitches still exist in Skyrim. Very strange.

Really appreciate this
Thank you! Now I can afford to feed Sarah. She eats a surprising amount.
😂
Which Ship Service Technicians have the most cash on hand to buy ships? 72K creds isn’t anything to snuff at, but are there other planets with more?
Issue I have is getting the ship I’m looking to sell, into the last ‘slot’. Any ideas as to how to resequence/move it there?
Try to make the unregistered ship your home ship. Back out of the menus talk to the ship tech again. Now set a registered ship you own as your home ship, do not leave the dialog prompt at this point. Click see what ships you have for sale, change it to sell, and the ship you are trying to sell should be in your last slot.
I think they JUST patched it as of this post because I did it yesterday and now it's not working, damn 😢
What update are you on? I just used this trick yesterday.
@@circuitscore so I used it on the 3rd and it worked and then I think an update happened and then on the 4th the next day after the update it won't work for me
I hope I'm wrong!!!
@@MOAON_AABE Check out my latest video. Still Works!
Hi I'm having problems trying to complete (unity) house of Enlightenment no chest
I don't believe I had this issue. Sorry I cant help with that.
Very nice. Thank you.
No probs!

Welcome!
I gave up getting it to work. (On a PC.)
I still made 29k on a UC Chimera III.
(Spacers had it, and tried to scam me.)
Hey thank you, I think it's stupid I'm only getting about 8k for an entire ship. There is no reason I should have to register it before selling it.
Exactly especially when the ship tech sell them for 10 time what you can sell them for and that's before registering them. I think they need to remove registration fees or at least make them WAY lower.
works a treat, thankyou
This still works, but in my experience, only on an Xbox controller, and only when you entered the buy/sell UI with a controller. Can't for the life of me get it to work with Q+Enter or Q+left click on Sell button.
Q+Left Click is very tricky. I def prefer a controller for this method. Much easier.
I still can't get this to work, it moves the screen and brings up menu to register every time.
You need to do it from a ship you own to an unregistered ship you don't own.
Sorry to hear that. I do make plenty of hard saves just in case however I have not had any corruption issues as of yet.
Just tried this on August 32 2024 and it still works
That's what Im talking about!!!! I hope this is never patched. Makes the game so much better and rewarding.
Hey update… if you go to the ship on the right of the ship you wanna sell it’ll work that way too
So if you do the LB and A on the ship to the right it’ll sell the ship on the left
Remember, the player can get up to a few billion creds as a maximum sum,
Outposts should cost a lot more resources and ship cargo capacity should be at least 10x larger, if not 50x.
That is a great idea. Making it a skill that people can work towards makes so much more sense than the current system.
Not sure man. Lets hope so though. Ive heard of a lot of people with that issue.
You're the man
That's what I do!
Answer... "and so?....."
Also Bethesda after they saw your video (or any like this), well in the
next update which probably in a few days later we gonna read
"fixed a selling issue"
👏
I am dreading the day this is patched. It makes stealing ships a so much more rewarding experience.
Hey on xobx what button is L?
The left bumper button otherwise known as LB
This actually worked, I'm pleasantly surprised. Absolute horseshit that I have to pay 90% of the resale value to "register" a ship just so I can sell it.
They never patched it! I hope it never gets patched! Agreed though. They should at a minimum have a place where we can sell stolen ships for more money like a theives guild type situation. The economy in this game makes no sense haha.
This method still works as of yesterday, 12/16/23.
LB+A to sell unregistered ships doesn't work anymore.
Are you on the Steam version or Xbox?
Hey so I just tried this right now on the Xbox Game Pass version and it does still work however it is much much harder to achieve. It is a very quick tap and it doesn't always work. Takes some persistence. It would seem they may have attempted to patch this in the last hotfix as it is much harder now.
@@circuitscoreI'm on Xbox.
@@circuitscoreOkay, thankk you, I will try a couple more times and see what happens.
So clutch, thank you
But I can just sell my ships unregistered now with out doing the glitch. Is this normal?
No this is not normal at all. I envy you haha.
@@circuitscore also where is the best place to farm ships
@@jensensphotography4570 100% agreed they need at a minimum a shady place like in the Key or something to sell unregistered ships. As for farming ships check out some of my recent videos. I have a lot of tutorials where to find some solid ships and how to steal them.
You don't actually have to start on your home ship you can do it from any ship
Its safer though if you do start on your home ship so you don't accidentally sell a ship you don't want to since the game wont let you sell you home ship. Good to know though!
Shops inventory's refresh every 48 u.t hours , if you wait 24h in New Atlantis = 50 u.t hours.
Naw dawg. Ship vendors take longer to replenish credits otherwise I wouldn't be sending everyone to Venus 😂
I used this a few times but I think game patched it cuz it doesn't work anymore
I hope not! I'll have to test this out in a bit see if I can get it to work.
Hey I just fired up Starfield and tried this. I was still able to get it to work. Are you on the beta steam patch or standard patch?
Has anyone ever have ship venders not regenerating creds after patch no matter how long you wait?
Did you go to Venus like in the video?
I tried it a couple of times, none in which worked. And after a few more attempts the game crashed. Playing on PC btw
Did you try with a controller plugged in or with Q and using your mouse? Ive found it much easier to use a controller and then switch back to K+M once Ive made my rounds.
Keep posting videos like this and Bethesda will patch this too
Perhaps
I can’t get this to work at all on Xbox. Patched maybe?
Edit: I just figured it out. Apparently I have to own the home ship.
Yeah has to be a ship you already own once you set it as your home ship or it wont work.
Nice trick - but why risk glitching your save when the game throws money at you all the time?
Eh I make a lot of hard saves just in case. Not Quicksaves. I'm not worried about it. Ive done this glitch so many times and no issues so far.
First off the ships should be more 'guarded' than they are, it is entirely too easy to steal them. But I do agree the registration fee is nonsense. I use the console to reimburse it.
Agreed. Its far too easy to steal a ship even on Very Hard with the right OP weapons.
thanks
No problem!
You only have to sleep for an hour, its 48hrs UT for replenishment
Good to know. That will save some serious time. Thanks!
can confirm, thx 👌🍲
No problem 👍
Thank you
You're welcome!
its idiotic that you have to register them in the first place
Be careful doing this because it can glitch out and strange things can happen like unregistering you're already registered ships
No issue yet on my end. Been doing this a lot 😂 Thanks for the heads up though!
Easiest way to get rid of starborn ships in inventory?
Not sure to be honest. I've started fresh a few times haven't tried to get rid of the Starborn.
Bro slept for 41 days UT. Merchants replenish their funds in like 2 days UT.
Best sleep of my life! 😂 Ship Vendors aren't like standard vendors. They require much more time to replenish their credits for some reason. Otherwise if just go sleep on my ship for 24 hours on Jemison.
Full value. You go from 188k to 25k but that's full value. Dude what a joke of a game.
Yeah the sellable value is already low enough and then they add registration fees on top of it. Its absolutely ridiculous.
Finally! For fuck sake why do they even have a registration fee.
Beyond me! At a minimum they need something like the thieves guild in Skyrim where you can sell stolen ships without having to register them. Or if they were to keep the registration fee make it no more than 15 percent.
I have yet to get this to work on pc. I'm sure a mod will pop-up eventually
only works with a controller connected to the pc
I've had the best luck with a controller connected to my PC.
Ahh ok, I hate playing space sims with controllers do thatd explain it. I couldn't figure out how to get no man's sky to work with keyboard and mouse while in vr either. I loved playing elite in vr with keyboard mouse and voice command
If you fly up into space is even more cheap
2 things, 1: you don't even have to be in space, just not at the ship tech. 2: It's only cheaper if you have the commerce skill. Without the skill it's the same price whether in space or at the ship technician. And technically it's not cheaper, it's just that the game calculates the registration fee based on the ship's price which is higher if you have the commerce skill.
Are you Jason Lee?
Subscribe and find out! 😏
Still working as of June 1st 2024
That's what I like to hear! Best exploit in the game.
@@circuitscore I would say that it appears the "Starborn" Ships are no longer spawning on Hawking IV-A to steal any longer, possibly patched.
@@infiniteuniverse9528 That's a shame. Idk why they keep patching this game to remove the fun out of it.
Definitely save before doing this.
Yeah I make a lot of hard saves. Never had an issue with using this trick though.
This still works also as of 1/29/24
That's what I like to hear! I really hope this one never gets patched. Makes pirating ships so much more rewarding.
October-16-2024 still works as of today
That's what I like to hear! Wouldn't want to play this game without it!
You dont steal them you just borrow them permanently
Exactly 😂
The whole registering a ship should just be removed from the game. Either that or make it a trivial amount like a 1k flat fee.
But you don't have to register them
Exactly! Can you imagine if you had to register with the DMV every time you stole a car in GTA 5. It doesn't even make sense honesty 😂
Only works with controller.
Def works best with a controller
