Great video! Very cool! Thank you! I've been watching buffing vids for about a week now trying to figure out how to buff my car. This is the first video that actually shows the whole process.
The goal here is clean it up. Not to make it show car perfect. I think that’s where people get hung up. A vehicle can look great, without being 100% defect free.
Yes this is the way I go for dealers that are cheap. Granted the main dealer that gives the most work pays better than any others around here it's great price considering they are used a car dealer .and I goofed up I found out I could have gotten more . but any way I quit taking my rotary buffer with wool pad over the whole thing and then polishing the whole thing again. And then waxing after. I hardly ever waxed after a buff and polish . But that's what they wanted . But I did what I wanted. I put 5" medium cut and polish pads on my rupes 15mm and started doing what he is doing .with HD speed. They never complained.
@@user-qp3xe6vn6d hello i have a few questions about the dealers? I have strarted my own detail buseniss and i also have dealers that want to bring their cars to me.
This video was very comforting, yet a very different angle, not only the camera but the atmosphere and aim of the video.. you're one with the da and paint and it was such a privilege to watch you quickly polish the car.. btw it must feel so awesome to be polishing the car with your very own product, its a dream! So cool to see, wish you all the best Scott :)
I've been waiting for a actual whole car polish for some time now.thanks Scott I always wanted to see how a pro gets around all the angles of a vehicle.great video for a beginner like myself.
Dont we have to clean the pad after each section? I am a beginner but my "quick 1 step" took me like 5 hours lol cleaned the pad with compressor after every section 😅
2 fast passes . Ty vm Do you need the remove stuff like shampoo wax or Fuso coat 12 month before polishing and if yes then how ? That Fuso is bullet proof
People of the comment section and Scott: I haven’t ever completely paint corrected my almost 4 year old daily driver truck. I maintain it with regular washes and spray sealants and occasional clay bar and cleaner wax. When I do touch the paint with machines (twice a year), it’s normally just using a DA and some Meguiar’s ultimate compound with this movement speed. It looks nice when I’m done, but Is it bad not to use a polish afterward?
Clear coat sits over the colour coat. The clear coat takes the day to day abuse (swirl marks, scratches, etching from bugs and bird poop). To remove these defects in the clear coat, you need to cut them out (which you could say compound them out, which basically is like sanding them out by removing a thin layer of clear coat). The amount of cut needed depends on the hardness of the vehicle clear coat, every manufacturer and model is different. You should do a test section, starting with a least aggressive pad and compound combination to see if your material selection and methodology cuts the defects out. Move up to more aggressive combinations until you find a combination that works, an orange foam pad is a medium cut pad (it is a little stiffer than a white foam pad and not as stiff as a yellow heavy cutting pad). The goal is to leave as much clear coat on the car as possible while achieving the desired results. Note that some defects may be to deep and you should not try to chase after them all, as you can burn through the clear coat and you don't want to do that. Depending on your pad/compound combination, you may need to do a second pass with a finishing pad and a polish to remove any haze left by the more aggressive abrasion of the cutting stage. In Scott's case, he is moving quickly with an orange foam pad which should not cause any burn through and the orange foam pad will give good cut and reasonable finish. If this were a Mercedes, the clear coat would likely be harder and a more aggressive combination would be needed. Best of luck!
Big fan of your videos..just got a polisher and have been using hd speed to remove some light defects ..having trouble with removal on the plastic lower fenders..not sure if I need a different compound or different pad ..these parts seem to scratch easily and are more difficult to correct with hd speed and orange pad...thanks!!!
Unfortunately that's not the DA they used to sell... That's a rotary. The DA changed from Chicago Electric to Bauer which Brian from Apex Detail did an extensive review on and does not recommend buying.
@@ldtriton I don't get what you are saying. Are you saying the Chicago Electric is not good because it's a rotary? Why is rotary a bad thing? I saw both the Chicago Electric and Bauer on their website this morning.

Great video, thank you Scott! I'm quite happy to have you as a part of my evening again! 👍👌✌ If you skip meticulously cleaning and blowing out the pad after each section and just blaze through 1/4 of a vehicle with each pad, how much of a real world difference is there in the finished end result? My OCD just flat out refuses to let me experiment with working that way, so I'm curious.. I've always thought it would be fun to do that with something like my beloved Hyper Polish.. just add a spray to each new section as you roll right on through, don't even have to lift the polisher.. ahhh to dream.. 😁

Tony Lyons hi, hope you dont mind me commenting here . lake country pads, chemical guys , cartec uk , rupes all do good pads, iv not used auto finesse pads and alot of variables to consider but im going to assume a few things if thats ok. First german paint is generally quite hard and you mentioned you are not getting much cut , so with that in mind id suggest maybe upping the amount of passes to 6-8 for compounding stage or you could do test sections from 4 passes upwards until you find the right amount of cut this is all assuming your technique is good such as arm speed, pressure and machine speed and its not stalling. Id also ask if you know the cars history and if any previous work has been done, also have you measured the paint depth at all, only asking as I’m sure it would be fine but good to know these factors to avoid any accidents as scot mentioned in the end of his pt2 video. Also im gonna state iv not used megs ultimate compound so i dont know its level of finish but id say its gonna need a second going over with a polish to refine and im sure you know this already as your asking about softer pads :)
