Flats point about long-term players dwindling is so spot on. I've played since day 1 of OW1, but more and more I get the feeling of what's the point? I have too many games asking for my attention and OW just doesnt provide enough outside of playing with friends who are also losing interest
Blizzards last chance comes every two months or so, then the loud people of you tube scream how they failed but the company still exists and we keep playing the games. my favorite is when a youtuber say the game has gone to crap and how awful it is and how no one should play it and its dead, then the next day make a video covering the news that will save the game. its an endless cycle of Games dead - new season will save the game - get a ton of views on new season content - see views go down because its 3 weeks past new season - say the game is in a bad place and repeat.
because theres still tards that buy battlepasses, if people didn’t sink money into pointless items , especially with these dogshit games, then the games wouldn’t even be online anymore

@@zaer-ezart yeah, blizzard had their info leaked and it said theres 15 million active monthly subscribers for WoW (most theres ever been), and that was before they had a chinese audience this year (which was 7 million before their contract ended in 2019). Basically, theyre making that nice 300-400mil a month off WoW alone, they dont really care what people on YT are saying when theyre making historic profits. Blizzard is no where close to dying, and influencers know they can get hyped based on downfall, so both sides are winning

I haven’t played ow2 since season 5 with the announcement of us not getting the full original PVE vision and now all I do is occasionally watch content on it

Blizzard seems to have forgotten how iconic Sigma's cinematic was. People who had never touched overwatch, or shown any interest in the game whatsoever, were aware of the "I have harnessed the harness" line, it went astronomically viral.
I think it's nice that the new VA's have been invited to narrate visual novels about their characters, but it doesn't hold a candle to the effect the cinematics had. Imagine having one of the most diverse cast of talented voice actors, a distinct art style, and a full timeline of events, and NOT making cinematics/animated series about it. Missed potential.

I mean EVERY Nintendo fan loves to defend Pokémon, when you know for a fact they have more than enough money to fund proper games and get good developers in to have well thought out optimization for the switch. Gamefreak as a company has suffered tremendously from a hostile work environment and development crunch for so long that it feels like it’s truly based on share holders asking “what can we make more profit on?”. Just because Toby Fox made a song doesn’t mean that this shit is still real. I like that at least some of the developers have a soul, I just know for a fact the Pokémon company (as a business) doesn’t give a flying fuck.

There’s every chance that the kiriko cinematic is considered a total loss when you project all the revenue up untill now for the game.

As someone who played a lot of plunderstorm, I genuinely enjoyed it and SERIOUSLY hope they do more of things like that. It wasnt serious, it was just a fun quick way to play with some buddies using characters/zones I've grown to really enjoy
Edit: the best part was, if you played enough yo actually got to unlock some cool cosmetics/titles in the normal wow client. It was so good.
I don't like Flats' thought that AA means "a worse game than a AAA one", it's purely a distinction of scope and budget. Not every game needs to be a huge open world RPG or to be a live service multiplayer shooter (which let's be honest, OW1 was while they were updating it, it just wasn't monetized like one) I for one would be very excited to get a 10-15 hour long singleplayer OW JRPG or something or a point and click mystery game set in the Warcraft universe. I just think to suggest that everything a "AAA" development studio puts out absolutely needs to be huge and expensive and lowkey soulless or else the studio is not doing its job is insane and kinda contributes to the homogenization and eventual downfall of video games as a whole.
Love Flats and agree with him often, but it caught me off guard that he doesn't seem to know what AA means. He seemed to confuse AA with the idea of a spinoff or to put it in OW terms, an off-franchise (Arceus is not quite AA, and like you said, AA doesn't mean worse quality either, considering how much better Arceus was than mainline Pokémon recently, even if it isn't AA). Agree with you though, he also doesn't seem to get that people simply want more content and games more often and that's not possible with modern AAA dev timelines (that could be adjusted some if all that red tape mentioned wasn't there and the focus on realistic graphics was toned down, but even then, I still think side games and smaller ventures are better long term for keeping people onboard and drawing them in, that feels like a lost art these days).

Wat the hell is going on here?! Is it really the wish of such people to get a lifeless metroidvania ripoff and other game ripoffs just with blizzard IPs? The meaning of making good games is to involve creativity and not just ask for some games. This is such a horrible direction if they would go for it. Riot shows how to do it, make some small teams with some old guys feom the bigger teams and get some new people involved aswell and let them cook. Also such ideas as Overwatch PvE by Community is just nonsense. Sure Overwatch lore is nearly not existing anymore but the goal is to develop such stories with the vision of the original creators. Fans doing it would only be some kind of fanfiction and much less quality. We are not anymore in a time people can create game genres like mobas. To make it clear, Blizzard developers seem to be the least productive developers in the whole industry and the solution would be to get good directors and people with a vision again. Not just go on and spam out ripoffs and hope for a hit in 1 out of 10 attemps.

I've never been more bored playing overwatch then I have the last month. The launch of this season had no shake ups, Juno is alright but doesn't change enough. Clash is okay but definitely isn't worth playing.

Imagine if Blizzard makes another RTS, but they go ALL IN. Smashing all of their different universes together. The mech focused Terrans from Starcraft, fighting against the demons and undead from Warcraft, and the angels from Diablo, with the characters of Overwatch serving as the heroes for each of the factions. They could call it...Lightning Gate! or Storm Door!

Nintendo is only responsible for publishing the Pokemon games, Flats. Gamefreak is the studio behind the game's development.
When you look at what Nintendo develops in-house, they rarely miss. It's almost shocking it has taken this long for others to try emulating them, given how long they've been killing it in this industry.

Blizz/Microsoft should just do, what Riot did: Take some money and develop games in different games with their existing IP. Put it out there and see if they are good and resonate with people. Don't be afraid to say, nah that ain't it and cancel projects.
Looking at Riot, we could do:
- An autobattler (TFT)
- A fighting game (Project L)
- A turn based, story driven RPG (Ruined King: A LOL story)
- A Jump 'n' Run adventure (Song of Nunu)
- A Metroidvania-like game (Conergence)
- A crafting RPG ala Stardew Valley/Sun Haven (Bandle Tale)
- An roguelike reverse bullet hell (Swarm)
And to tbh, I would be not surprised if riot actually releases a gacha game at some point, lol.
Riot just took some of the most recent game trends and built games with their IP around it, or made some unique stuff on their own. And it pays off. While not all of this game are hits, they are at least decent and a nice gaming snacks between your usual go to's. This brings in money and good reputation. And at least the second thing is what Blizz badly needs, atm.
So looking at Blizz/Microsoft. They have incredible strong IP's, with a wide variety of different settings, with great characters and potential for great stories to tell. To me, it feels like a story driven rpg is a no-brainer. Also, an autobattler should be really makeable, with this cast of characters from all those IPs. And a roguelike reverse bullet hell in 2d pixel graphics shouldn't be that hard to make.
Just take a leap of faith and try Blizz. Be a little bit like your old self.

It's kinda an existential-fabric interlay. That you can witness readily in a WIDE variety of scenarios. It's crazy how people can pick up such things through digital works (Blizzard makes it easy, cause in their decisions we are seeing as well. Yay! We get to see it AND feel it! Truly blessed)
When they made OW1 free 2 play and didn't make an OW2 AT ALL (literally scrapped doing anything beyond trickling out characters and maps just like OW1), people should have realized there's never going to be an OW3 OR any big content that will actually give people what they want ... I wish every f2p game was run by Digital Extremes...

My personal opinion,
Once they got OW2 announced I stopped playing OW entirely and lost faith in them forever.
Since then I have given them my last chance with D4 and they fucked up so bad, it’s not dead but I will not buy the exp or play the game, waiting instead for POE2.
I also tried to play some OW2 with the hero real ease but I wasn’t as hyped or enjoyed the game as before I don’t know why, it felt really like another game rather than the OW I used to play … Again my personal opinion.
I will only play HOTS but never play a Blizzard game ever again.
OW was really something special and I cannot understand how hard they devided their community and how sad I am since I don’t think we will never get the old OW feeling again neither the excitement for a new Blizzard game.
10:04 Part of the problem with these AAA games is that they're TOO big. They're bloated with content without any real focus, and they cost way too much money to make a real profit off of, so we just end up getting these big hollow games that get the plugged pulled by the folks fitting the bill.
Making smaller games narrows things down so that they can concentrate on perfecting everything right in front of them instead of spreading themselves so thin by trying to do too much. It's a back-to-basics approach.
And I'm all for it 🙋. Not every game needs to be a 10 bajillion hour epic with 30 bajillion mechanics that need 50 bajillion dollars to keep funding. It's okay not to be a Kitchen Sink game, just be good at a few core components and that's fine.
So the "last chance" of a millions selling company is to make AA video games ? Nonsense. The guy talk about Riot Forge (Riot's AA label) being a success but it was closed earlier this year... Blizzard needs Agility teams ? Incubation teams had always been part of the gaming industry. Overwatch itself was born from such a team !

The reason they won't go all in is because they're a public company, so a lot of risk-adverse greedy scumlords influence funding decisions now. Profit isn't good enough. Every game needs to be MORE profitable. They want consistent growth. Ideally explosive growth. That's why layoffs to save money are a thing too, cause it's easier to grow from greenhorn newbies desperate and willing to crunch than from senior employees who know their rights and worth.
I think Blizzard has mastered the ability to ride the line of putting out a product that is JUST good enough to stay online and churn out money, but will never be great....or even really good, but just good enough for people to have hope. Because let's be real, with the voices of the content creators, the community and the VERY OBVIOUS fixes to glaring issues with every single one of their games, they choose to either do the opposite, or nothing. At a certain point you have to understand they aren't doing it, not because they can't or are unaware, but just because it's more profitable not to.
I just want the damn servers to work and have the original count. The south east server in NA got axed and i went from 20ms games at 4pm right after school/work hours,
to then get games middling around 100-150 ping at 3am.

D4s new patch is looking to be a pretty big one adding requested features and challenges. Not to mention that the season 4 & 5 have been solid and better. Now they need to fine tune the end game, and the expansion may do that with raids, and the group finder. Oh and making bricking items less possible
Last season none of the uniques were good (maybe a couple) now my sorc (fireball) got to level with like 6. They need to add loadouts for respeccing builds though.
might be the least hot take ever to conscious people but they should put less money and effort into making cosmetics. AND at that the community should stop complaining about mercy/kiriko getting skins BECAUSE they want other characters to get skins, after 4 years of fuck all development from blizzard and a canned pve mode, cosmetics should be the least of the communities worries yet aside from 6v6 the hottest topic is not having more ways to waste money on other heros
Here's a wild idea for microsoft and blizzard: instead of laying people off, actually hire more devs, pay and treat them all in humane ways rather than like shit, so they can actually support/develop their aaa games. I do NOT want to see a bunch of cash grab indi games made by a non indi company, cause all you get is shit like diablo immortal and warcraft rumble. I think AAA is going to die in favor of AA games over time with very few exceptions. Big studios will simply have a reputation for style and put out a lot of games instead of working on bloated messes and unoriginal third person games with too much money invested to allow for creativity.

It's interesting how they have released console ports, but their main games are on 2 entire different consoles at the time, making it wven harder to own them off pc, let alone anyone remember them.

Some of really great and popular indie games have been made in 1-2 years by a handful of people and we call them AA, but they often feel very polished, but they're just shorter games. The hardest part for Blizzard is going to be selecting the best projects to move forward with. They have to pick the most unique ideas that manage to be fun, but still reel in the scope. That can be hard to do if you have the wrong people in charge.
As a surviving player of Heroes of the Storm, I can happily say that your game is still alive.
That being said, it is disheartening to see the current decision making of blizzard. I do want to see both Heroes and Overwatch thrive once again. While difficult, its not unattainable.
Spin off ideas for overwatch. Make an RTS and tell the story of overwatch versus talon. You already have people who know how to make an RTS should be pretty easy. Take cute little versions of all the characters and put them in a cart racing game. People will love it.take mercy and put her as the Director of a hospital and make an overwatch themed hospital. Take reaper and make a 2-D side scroller in the vein of Blackthorne. Take soldier 76 and put him in a third person action adventure shooter. Played the strength of overwatch, the characters.
Saw someone say OWxHades in the chat, thats a brilliant idea! Instead of different weapons, you have heroes, and different "powers" within those heroes loosley based off of the OW2 PvE skill tree ideas. I would play the absolute shit out of that game.

The survival game being repurposed like Overwatch is a lot harder now, seeing that almost everyone working on it was let go.
It's weird to think that somehow video game development wasn't experiencing the same late-stage capitalist bullshit back then, even though you hear about games and studios getting canned left and right. The difference is that companies are now evil enough to trash more successful ventures, when it means they make more money now.
blizzard can survive with wow and heartstone but overwatch 2 is pretty much doomed to die, they fired everyone, there was no blizzcon, there is nothing at gamescom, the game have no future, juno is the last season with any content made before layoffs, this year we havent gotten a single new event mode, mirrorwatch was not a new event mode, modes were regular ow, was a glorified hacked quick play, and the story? off jaja yeah no. their last hope is 6vs6, this is how desperate develoepers are, 5vs5 is a failure, 6vs6 is the last chance

I could just imagine genshin impact but its got overwatch characters. Overwatch is a perfect gacha game with all its different characters and skins. They are going back to 6v6 why not go back to gambling.

10:21, counter argument, its because it's unsustainable, their probably spending millions to tens of millions into big games, and making them do that for every new game not knowing if it's gonna be a hit is how you get business to go bankrupt or people to getting laid off and fired, it also promote AAA studios to cut corners to save budget as most of them are tied down by investors who only care about money and nothing else, it's MUCH better to have one big game and a couple small games to fund the next big game, pirate software talked a bit about this and that's where i got this from.
The reason why a AA game is exciting because there is less risk of losing money. AAA puts $300 million over 8 years and no one buys it boom you lost hundreds of millions of dollars. A smaller game reduces that risk

No real faith in this. I just feel like they are going to hard pivot to mobile games. We will soon see most of their original IP's on mobile somehow. Waiting for that NetEase partnership again.
The tower defense mode would've actually been good if it was an actual map and used the null sector/Talon enemies, I actually enjoyed the mode but there was just no reason to play it. I do hope when the day comes when pvp is in a stable place they'll go back to pve and try to finish it
