Honestly for PvP it was on the floor, but the promises made for PvE was high high after the promises made back in 2019. But the fact that they're ditching is the issue.
It’s not the devs fault it’s the ppl that Tun and manage the company but mostly the overwatch team, they expect a lot yet barely give the the employees or resources to make anything happen so they basically they just make them work for nothing
The part that sucks for me isn't the "no pve," but knowing they actually spent at least 5 years making it and basically salvaged nothing. Honestly, what a way to kill "two" games with one stone.
@@spencer1183 i fully believe the devs and workers on this game cared about it and WERE working on it. its the higher ups, not the devs. the higher ups and investors need their money made to be worth the investment. its so sad. you could tell how hard it was for aaron and jared when discussing they would scrap pve. its hard for everyone. they have huge balls for being upfront with us. Overwatch itself is the offspring of Project Titan and they wasted 5 years on that one too so it's kinda 10 years of game development trashed out of the last 14 years.

@@wetoddedd Good thing we are TECHNICALLY not mad at this... TECHNICALLY. Simply because i learned years to not believe Blizzards PR, nothing good is for sure with those bandits.
The biggest loss in my opinion is the skill trees. I LOVE gameplay mechanics and weird things you can do with them. I want more and more and more of them. The most exciting to me out of any overwatch update isn't skins or events, its patch notes. So the idea that you could change and alter a character to play differently on the fly and make interesting builds and combos. Just look at all the creative things that people have done by comboing heroes abilities together. Suddenly give each hero a dozen more abilities or change the ones they have that's incredible. THAT would be the appeal for seasoned players. That they could play with friends to fight against some simple AI enemies with customizable heroes. So new story events just playing the same bullshit we've already been doing is going to be WAY less exciting. They've honestly failed us by holding back all this information from us for money. This is the scummiest thing blizard has done maybe ever. Then again that's a very high bar for them because they're a god damn mess of a company.
i think their biggest issue is that they went with huge trees. you don't need crazy huge trees to make good progression. something like xcom2 has a choice out of 2 skill every level for about 5 or 6 levels and that already provides a huge variety. imagine reinhardt with a massive shield vs one with a frail shield that explodes in an aoe damage. homing fire strike vs triple cast at once.... they didn't need 20-40 skills per character.
@@Mantrahiroshima How? Blizzard just pulled a massive con, people are right to feel betrayed. I don't plan on boycotting the game but I don't think it's so crazy to understand why others would want to
They couldve literally done the pve they promised, just with a small cast of characters. Start small yet deep and then add more of the roster in over time as they made money I just feel like..the decision was too abrupt and weirdly lacked nuance?
This. I was looking forward to something to play with friends who don’t like pvp. Seemed like it was going to be something along the lines of borderlands/Diablo skill tree without the items. That’s a lot for how many characters they have so having a few at a time would make so much sense.
Something tells me PVE was put on hold after releasing that first Battle Pass and seeing if the money would roll in from there. Now that they know it will sell with things like cosmetics and Collab events, they probably decided to scrap it and focus on these instead of the promised PVE.
It's obvious the decision to make PVE was half-baked from the get-go. They must have done no research into what it would take to make it. They could absolutely do small pieces to gauge interest and go from there. Morons!
It's honestly so amazing that they managed to fuck this up so badly. The lore is what got me into the game originally, and there are so many characters we know very little about. This was a great opportunity for them and I know that myself and many others would have waited 4 more years for PVE. But instead it's just hilarious looking back how stupid we were

5 years of being gaslit by this company into thinking they’ve been working on OW2. 60% of the roadmap is re-adding legacy content that they removed. Screw this team, T4 needs to hold some accountability, it’s not JUST the Execs. Such garbage.
Most of the Overwatch team left ages ago. Between the Kotick fiasco with running their team into the ground, the sexual harassment, assault, and discrimination problems across Blizzard as a whole, and more; you can't exactly blame them, not that it matters at this point. The T4 that you knew and want to blame is long gone.
I'm pissed about PvE as much as the next guy, but 60%? Really? Out of 25+ (+ because of "and more") 15 are BRAND new, never before released content. 6 are returning yearly events, which always bring new content and the community is always excited for, or reworks of old content, which is always welcome (AND NEEDED) to strengthen the longevity of the game and to keep older content up to new standards. Some of them are questionable because there's no details about what they are and I have no guesses. 5v5 mini comp? Creator workshop? The only straight recycled or legacy content on here are On Fire, Returning Modes, and Comp Mystery Heroes. I'll even give you Summer Games and OW Anniversary, and Player Progression system (which most likely will have nothing to do with OW1's system). That's at the very most 24%, because even with the old stuff will come new.
It is the executive suite who failed to maintain talent and led to a massive brain drain of the most committed developers who didn't want to remain at a company ran by egoists who care more about their profits than the quality of their workplace.
It is the execs, they make the decisions. But of course all the blizzard execs are serial rapists with unending lawsuits on their backs, they are at fault for the toxic and unhealthy work culture at blizzard
This is insane. I stomached the insanely high cosmetic prices by telling myself I was supporting the devs to continue building and improving on one of my favorite games. Where did all the time go? Where did all the resources go? It just doesn't add up. I feel stolen from. Edit: I understand the viewpoint that "if you were paying for skins you were a part of the problem", but if they don't get money at all, what's stopping them from cutting off the entire project. You'd expect them to put more into the game so people buy more skins, it's a simple investment. But if they think putting out one new skin every Tuesday, and randomly shifting some numbers around in the patch notes every month is enough, then I'm done. ima still buy the cardboard Rein skin next season tho bc it funny :)
By paying for cosmetics you basically just gave them the green light to focus on skin monetisation over content as logically, it makes them more money for a lot less effort.
The worst part. Is in ALL of the interviews leading up to this stream. ALL of the interviews and the questions from the player base throughout the introduction of OW2, were about the PVE. And THEY KNEW BEFORE THE GAME EVEN RELEASED THAT IT WASN'T EVEN BEING WORKED ON. They lied to our face in all of the interviews and questions that were asked. This game is ending for so many people. AND, with how OW2 released and was maintenanced people thought it was lacking resources BECAUSE OF THE PVE BEING WORKED ON.. Terrifying. That with 100% focus on PVP this is still all that we got to show for it..
"we promise to be transparent and communicate with our players more," knowing damn well during OW2 preorders that there was never going to be PvE. what a scam of a company
@jo-d it's gonna be similar to what they have done in the passed with events like the archive. Just missions that's it. It's extremely bare bones and nothing compared to what they promised.

Dude, it would’ve justified the past 3 years of embarrassment. Rushed release, little to no new content despite being a new game, abandoned overwatch 1 support. All for a revamped shop and a battlepass with 5v5.
Yeah this really sucks. I like playing comp but it can get toxic and therefore boring. I was really looking forward to mixing it up with some PvE with the assumption people would be more friendly if they were all working together, and now it’s not happening. I was genuinely on board with the new directions Blizzard, seemed to be shifting to. Overwatch 2 began their commitment to talking with players and Diablo 4 was resonating well with me. Hoping they could follow the Overwatch team’s example. That was with OW2 PVE on the table. I thought they were doing their thing balancing OW2, and tossing out silly game modes, whilst PVE baked behind the curtains. Now it turns out that PVE experience, was never even really there to begin with. They’ve made OW2 into a clone of Fortnite’s model and withheld information they had well in advance of even announcing OW2’s early PVP release. I thought Blizzard changed. I don’t even want to buy Diablo 4 now. I had fun with the Beta… but no. I’m not supporting this. OW’s idea of PVE but with the PVP mechanics, is not fun and it never will be. Don’t fight me. Overwatch 2 is Dead. The Content Creators got to play the demo to a game we will never see. This is unbelievable. I didn't wait 4 years to get a downsize. Blizzard hasn't changed one bit.
You'd be surprised by how many times a demo is released but the full game isn't. However, other developers just take the L and make a new game instead of re-releasing the old game with a "promise" to add the full thing later.
I was literally going for bat for them in comments. Saying that I believed they were looking out for their game and wanted to listen to us and grow as a community. As bad as this announcement is, I feel like what's worse than not getting the PvE after so long is simply the trust being broken. Even with this new road map what's stopping them from not delivering on half or even all of that. After basically lying to your entire playerbase for 4 years how can you expect to have the their trust going forward into announcing other future developments for the game.
@Ethan Weld no but wasn't there a bundle to buy that said you got overwatch 2 pve for no cost if you got it? And was it not after they already knew they were not going to make it. To me that's false advertising.
The 2019 PvE Mission at BlizzCon was how Jeff imagined what Overwatch PvE would look like. It's his game, his child. It's so sad that he left. I think with him would could have gotten one of the best PVE experiences ever.
He left around the time it was announced that the game was going f2p if I remember correctly. That can't be a coincidence if that's true. Regardless of the exact timeline, Jeff KNEW some bullshit was going down and dipped out of the company, likely knowing well ahead of time the higher ups were making decisions that were going to fuck over Overwatch 2.
jeff even hired some WoW raid designer to design some boss fight for overwatch 2 man i think only Destiny able to pull that thing now since PVE is scrapped into short stories for each season better used to see '' To Be Continue '' screen
I'm sorry to all those who said this was Overwatch 1.5. I now see and completely agree with you. "Thank you for supporting the team" yeah well, that team betrayed us. Edit: they're really advertising Season 6.(sort of like how they advertised PvE. That's a red flag already) So if that season doesn't skyrocket to the moon the community will not be happy, and looking as how they "focused more on PvP" yet PvP is as stale as ever, my hopes are at an all time low.
remember it's not the OV dev team betraying us, it's activision blizzards upper management fucking them every step of the way since befoe developmet on OV 1 even stopped. You can see it in their face and hear it in their voice, they are simply reading a script PR wrote or them. They are puppets on strings, scapegoats for out anger. Direct it where it belongs, at bobby and co.
On the other side of the coin, it makes me think less of Aaron Keller knowing that after Jeff left, he said yeah I’ll take the lead for this microtransaction bs.
Dont worry guys! Overwatch devs will just flood the store with items and skins that are not obtainable anymore to make up for this! Totally as an apology and not just "hey we screwed you but we need money to unscrew you!"
I don’t know about design philosophy but store is definitely not devs focus, it’s the management decision. ATVI is not small studio so it work mostly that ways.
Honestly, I feel like if they are going to drop bullshit news like this, they better have something better than a "road map" and cheap promises. If they're so sure these seasonal events are going to be well received, release one right now and let the community judge for themselves. They also need to ramp up overall development 100%, counter this disappointment with SOMETHING tangible.
they keep saying that the community is gonna love the new gamemodes and events theyre working on and so far they all suck (starwatch, battle for olympus)
"Why do people keep coming to Overwatch instead of other 5v5 games?" "Because we make cinematics." Great! Good to hear that the devs are hard at work taking credit for the work of a team that has nothing to do with the devs.

I don't think I've ever been so broken hearted over a game before. Overwatch is the first game I've played competitively, the first game ive been able to play daily for years (and enjoy it), the first game ive been able to get truly good at and climb in. I have made so many friends through this game and have gained so much confidence in myself due to the hardwork and dedication ive put in. Ive spent so much of my time on this stupid game just to watch it die in front of me. This feels like the end of an era :(
Did you actually climb or were you one of the accounts blizzard decided to boost so queue times in higher ranks would be shorter? They boosted players in season 3 and beginning of season 4 and it happened to roughly half the community. This is not a competitive game it's nothing but psychological manipulation to keep people playing and buying skins.
Literally nothing about this has anything to do with the multiplayer experience that you grew to love so far. So your comment is not only pointless but it definitely sounds like just jumping on the bandwagon.
The thing thats so frustrating is that a lot of us who put money into OW2 in any regard (battle pass or skins) did it with the expectation that our money was being put towards things they had promised. OW2 basically released as an Early Access title where you could pay to help them finish it. And now we discover that even before that 'early access' release, they never planned on finishing it. It just strikes me as sort of gross and slimy to do to your playerbase, especially after starving them for content in service of the thing they *knew* they couldn't fulfill and actively taking away a game they had already paid for (being OW1). The outrageous price of skins just makes it feel more insulting.
I would guess they think of their enfranchised players as a cancer to be removed and they only want the new free-to-play younger audience who knows nothing about how much they should be charging for their skins.
@@MichaelJones-rz5sw It definitely is. Alot of people were waiting for PvE before they come back. You can see people everywhere saying they're done with the game.
Honestly, theres clearly a huge market for this pve style of game, which could be DRAMTICALLY improved upon. IDK blizzard didn't just form an entirley new team to work on more or less a seperate game but with the same IP behind it, you could have unique hero's settings ideas etc. without it getting muddied by being dragged in two different directions.
Talent trees was the one thing I was excited for OW2... especially cause I have a lot of friends that were waiting on pve to start playing ow2. Been playing overwatch just holding out for PvE, I think this actually kills the game for me :(
@@beanzu8996this is actually so tragic and left a sour taste to the point where idk, I see myself and others quitting, maybe coming back to check out a new hero... oh wait u gotta pay for that or wait a whole season before playing the hero for free... “Ok so we are losing players, how are we going to bring them back?” “How about finally releasing, or at least leaking pve” “Nah idk how to make a skill tree, let’s just quit on the idea” “GUYS, what if we, and hear me out, continue selling 50 dollar cosmetics?”” “BRILLIANT”
Skill Trees were literally the one main thing I was looking forward too alongside a campaign. I really wanted to see what it would be like playing heroes with all the augmented abilities and modifiers to playstyle and kit, even ultimates playing out differently, and now it's all gone. And from the look of Season 6 from the thumbnail it looks like they're gonna drip feed us the story missions they made so far for the now scrapped PvE campaign over each season and shift them into smaller story narratives. GREAT
It starts to hurt when developers says "We just want to say thank you to our community" after that kind of announcement.. Listen, we both know what you guys just did, the reason you put 2 behind the game title AND justified making a seperate game from Overwatch, was because of the coming PvE!.. That is some major false advertisement right there. Props to the guys for being upfront about it and it was probably difficult to make that choice - but you just have a lingering bad feeling afterwards..
That ain't "upfront about it". They waited ages after they made the decision to kill it and tried to recharacterize it as a good thing. "Focusing on our players." Bullshit.
This legit makes me consider quitting OW2 entirely, as I was so looking forward to PVE missions. I LOVED the Archives event back in Overwatch 1 and desperately wanted something similar in OW2
@@RebleeAnd it's not offering the replayability that was promised. Wrath of the Bride was fun, but after beating Legendary with some friends (after what took a few hours), it wasn't repayable anymore. I got all the achievements LONG before we beat Legendary, and with the way starwatch just released to a resounding "meh," this is a huge blow to the entire franchise. I played Starwatch for less than a couple hours. And got all the achievements in that timeframe. If that's the depth and replayability to come, I'm not sticking around for that.
I miss Battleborn now. Game just came out at a bad time but they put a lot into their PVE levels especially playing them for better items to be use in the PVP mode

As a player who never played OW1 and just got hook into OW2 since launch, I enjoyed the game also knowing that there will be a PVE because it spark an interest in me. Seeing all these content creators/streamers who played the game since the beginning and kept playing before OW2 was launch is just heartbreaking. They kept hyping it, they tried their best to pull players to comeback and play the game again because there will be a great content soon. But then they will just say that they will not give it because they can't keep their promise? They basically scammed the whole player base of OW. People stayed in the game because they have something they are waiting for but then you will just drop it like nothing happened? FUCK THAT!
a literal scam. even before ow2’s release, and a few weeks after it’s release, there was a bundle with 3k coins and a preorder for a pve gamemode… that doesn’t even exist.
They basically lie to the OW player. I played the first OW after a week of release. I quit OW half way of of the entire season of OW(because I got bored of the game) I only came back to OW2 because of PvE.
I love how EVERYTHING is being pushed back, but at the same time in all those years play Overwatch 1, i never saw so many skins being lauched in such short time spam, of course, all in the store, but there was so many. 80% of the team must be in skin producing. 10% in the store management, 5% rebalance and rework, 3% event ideas, 2% the PVE(and its the one that need biggest work of all these). Oh well.
is it any surprise? if the skins in the shop are making them enough money then why make anything else? its literally the point of the company existing, to make money. if you dont like it stop playing, if everyone stops playing then they'll stop doing it. everyone says it every time some bullshit happens and no one does it. so, enjoy your cake.
Yeah in one of the interviews they mentioned something like a new legendary skin takes a very long time to make. So they had time cranking those out. Which is still content but like.... yeah we know what the motivation is.
Just start out small. Start with 10 talents and expand from there with the seasonal updates. It’s not like we need all 50 immediately. Lock some behind missions we don’t have access to yet. There are many ways to accomplish it.
I wouldn't put your hopes up :( it's extremely unlikely we are ever getting those kinds of rpg features, they tried and it almost destroyed the game (and will more than likely less to the death of ow imo)
Seriously. How do they not understand to turn down the scale if they know they are biting off more than they can chew? Instead of just canning all of their work for 3 years? This makes me believe there is an ulterior motive related to wanting to milk the PVP than finish PVE because if they wanted to just turn down the scale and release the game with less talents or less heroes or something they definitely could. An indie dev team would be able to accomplish that.
@@digojez Literally the only thing that made it interesting. The skill trees being implemented is what set it apart from OW1 events to a brand new experience. Apparently the new Junkerstein map was how the next PvE events will play out. Literally 1 and done game modes. It's heartbreaking. I am primarily a PvE player, I was super excited for a new PvE game since PvE is not extremely popular or doesn't have much passion put into it. I didn't expect PvE to blow me out the water but I knew it was going to be my main game because of the characters, their abilities, design, voice acting, I've fallen in love with the characters just for them to not expand on any of that. I can guarantee season 6's PvE is a fail and what we're left with is a inferior version of Overwatch 1's PvE with missing features, gamemodes, and maps which were replaced by a worse gamemode and worse maps for said gamemode. It's so heartbreaking man, this is worse than a breakup. A game I played since release I have to say goodbye to.
as someone who played overwatch 1 since the beta, im heartbroken. i have many countless hours into this game and when they released ow1 i was hooked, i loved the game, i made friends along the way, it was a fun game. when leaks of ow2 started coming round, i was hesitant. i thought the game didnt need a sequel, and if they wanted to add more content, they shouldve put it in the first game. but when they announced it at blizzcon 2019, my doubts vanished, i was on board with the idea. then afterwards when we didnt get any content for like 2-3 years i lost hope. i stopped playing sometime around season 20 or 29 (idk when). then when they said that ow2 was gonna release last year, i kinda got excited. and now we’re here, it sucks. im thinking im gonna leave ow2 at season 6 like what flats said.
Yeah same here. I’ve been here since day 1 and am pretty much in the exact same boat as you. No PvE was the final nail in the coffin for me I think. I’ll stick around to see how bad the story missions are and then I’ll be on my way out I think.

i do think actiblizzard is to blame here. not the ow2 team. my theory is that the ow team wanted more budget for the pve, but the higher ups said “nah”. but idk maybe this is copium.
I am glad that Flats noticed how word twisty the interview responses were. I would call this a deception on the part of Blizzard to the players. Imagine being a kid trick or treating on Halloween and someone down the street has a sign inviting trick or treaters because they have a signs saying “bought way too much candy, so you’ll get a box of whatever candy you’d like” and then you go up to there and all they give you is 1 piece of candy. That’s how this feels.

In my opinion, the biggest issue is that the communication is so late. It makes it clear that they used the good faith from the community to ship ow2s new vision more successfully than it would've been. I get why they did it, but it's also kinda sus. So at this point it's just down to what they ship in season 6. If the content is good and they are consistent in the new vision than I think all will forgive. But as it is now I'm very hesitant to trust them after them basically lying to us these first 4 seasons
don't fall into the same trap twice. if they were gonna prove themselves, they would've done it by now. they're promising "quality" content IMMEDIATELY after breaking a promise for *quality* content. there is no integrity there, it's all bullshit.
There is just no way. It may not even be pve. It will probably like starwatch if you read the article. Even if it's a pve, it will be like archives event. Played for a day.
The issue imo is that Blizzard has ONLY been testing the playerbase’s patience and never rewarding the players with a nice game. 4 years of OW1 getting 0 content, obvious signs OW2 was never going to be done right (broken “changes”, an unplayable Week 1), predatory shop prices that were ILLEGAL for a few days, and now this. At this point, I don’t expect the balance to be good. And I don’t expect 60% of their promises for the “roadmap” to even make it to live. So in my eyes, why even bother spending any time or effort in this game?
agreed. They promised PVE early this year, only to announce it's no more at the last moment. And like the one person said, without the hero talents, it's just gonna be like the archives event and the starwatch event.
While I’m glad that we’re still gonna get story content, the decision to cancel the actual full PvE component is so disappointing. The skill tree sounded so interesting, a way to seemingly change how character abilities worked and “build” them how you wanted. As a Doom main, I’d have loved to see what they’d have come up with for him. What a shame.
@@Lathander81 she but there won't be a skill tree which when i saw the sample picture i had my doubts that was going to work. like they said 40 skills for each of the 30 something heroes is just bonkers. it wasn't going to work or the skill would be incredibly dull (think extra 5% hp sort of skill)
@@damp2269 there’s literally a workshop gamemode. coded in overwatch itself. that pulls off a better pve. ofc it doesn’t have its own detailed maps and it’s very limited, but it there’s so many buffs, debuffs, upgrades, bosses and more. and it’s called endless dungeon. too bad blizzard themselves can’t do that, even tho people who play the game and don’t even develop the game can pull it off
My hypothesis on Corporate Mentality: 1. Declare PVE is canceled (6 yrs content over) 2. Wait for upset fans to blow over 3. Re-purpose scrapped PVE content into small elements of the " New events/skins/maps and content" 4. Monetize the shit out of step 3 to recuperate losses for 6 years of PVE development.
this is def the nail in the coffin for me, never was that big of a competitive fan in ow1 but started grinding it with the start of ow2 when i thought i'd be sinking a lot of time in the PvE later down the line anyways. weird to see the devs say that this isn't essentially a big update because of how different the pvp is from overwatch 1... but if ow1 had actually been a live service game with frequent updates it would have gotten to the point where ow2 is now (and maybe further, since it sounds like they had barely even made progress on the PvE mode)
Literally in the same boat. Got into ow2s pvp just to prepare for the story mode. There’s no reason for players like us play anymore. I was so excited lol
I feel the blizzard mandatory in office policy fucking killed any chances of PvE coming out. I don't blame them for wanting to support us, because they probably had the talent and numbers to support PvP players and chip away at PvE but now since devs are leaving blizzard in droves, it doesn't really seem like it's in the cards anymore.
Game Dev is hard. I know. I'm an indie game developer and it can take years to work on a single project. but as a solo dev, one that watches the work of A LOT of other solo devs and small teams. I know that a company as big as this, that has had years to work on this project, could have scaled it down and delivered. as hard as game development is, if you are dedicated to your work it's surprising what you can actually get done - even by yourself. if they had to scale the hero trees down to 5 or 10 percharacter, sure it would have been disappointing but it would have been doable. I'm vastly dissapointed in their lck of commitment and this is truly embarrassing for a company of their size.
I know I'm not a game dev and don't know EXACTLY what it's like, but in my opinion, there is NO excuse for this. Actiblizzard is a multi-billion dollar company - one of the largest in the gaming industry. They have the money and resources to put out a PvE gamemode, they just don't care anymore. All they care about is making money. They realized they're making enough by just having the shop up, so there was no reason to put in the effort for PvE. What used to be a company known for releasing superbly polished games on release has become a shell of its former self, putting out half-baked experiences that will make them a quick buck. I've been saying it for years while people were complaining about EA: Activision is the worst, slimiest, most greedy company in the industry. Millions of times worse than EA.
@@SpingotGoomer you should think again, because even in Destiny decent DLC comes once every 3 years, and they still charge $45-$60 for the annual expansion plus $10 for seasonal expansions. Reality is there is no way people would pay that kind of money for OW pve. So it's not financially viable.
@@swordofkhaine8464 look at FFXIV and you get an expansion every 2 years for $40 and all of the content released during that is included in that $40. Yeah you have to pay a sub to play but you can wait until the last patch and do all of it for about $52(this is with the expansion included, subs cost about $12/m). They don't fluctuate the prices and the amount of content is about the same. They don't cut out content and sell it for an additional fee and they don't try to monetize game mechanics. Destiny's pricing and content model should not be a comparable standard because it's completely shit. And yes they do have microtansactions but it's not like destiny where they charge for dungeons(used to be included in expansions and seasons), transmog, pre order for 3 months of exclusive access to an exotic gun, and a battle pass. They also just increased the seasonal prices and the amount to content is the same. These seasons also all go away after a year and the content is made to be disposable.
@@TheChiefCalled My point was that I don't think the pve they had was going to be that good anyway. That's why I mentioned D2 release decent-ish expansion once every 3 years (taken king, forsaken, witch queen), and rest are essentially money grabs to fund the better expansions. Having played the Dr. JUnkenstein event and others, I'm not too impressed, even Destiny's campaigns are better. And if they released a bad product it would get way more s**t than what's happening now. I think D2 lost 1/3 of the playerbase because Lightfall was so bad.
@@swordofkhaine8464 ok I get ya. I guess we'll never know since they aren't releasing it. The cinematics of overwatch show they can make good stories for the game and the mechanics for pve looked decent so even half of that probably would have been good.

And now they scratch the PVE lets gooo HAAHHA. They knew that pve got scrapped before even the released of ow2 and still they advertised it as pve! they lied. overwatch already killed itself lmao, and people still defending it, because it have 2 in the name. They only cared about the money
I honestly only cared about OW because of the upcoming PvE gameplay. I don't play the game, but I like the mechanics and characters. I have been waiting for a REAL PvE/mission based gameplay for years. Now that I know it isn't coming to fruition, I actually do not give a sht about this game now.
Yep most live services do, better to be focused on what’s actually in the game instead of some future made up version in your head that the devs gas up.
But he gave plenty reasons why this change to OW2 was good. Like: They Updated the Shop, Added a battlepass, updated the engine, changed the game to 5v5 - thats plenty reasons for the 2 at the end of the name. You heard the man and Flats read the interview. It does make sense. You are just too stupid to see it KEKW *this is sarcasm btw*
I've moved on from OW a while ago. I've been on OW2 here and there but wasn't super invested in it, but it will always have place in my heart and it sucks to see this happen to the OW community.
This is genuinely insane and I have no idea how to feel besides extreme anger at Overwatch and Blizzard; one of the main reasons I was even playing Overwatch 2 was because I was excited for the PvE and talents and stuff…
Nah, fr shoveling through all the bs that ow1 and 2 had. The only thing going through my mind was just, " Wait until pve comes out, and it'll all be worth it" but unfortunately that will never happen and I'm probably going to uninstall overwatch and keep it uninstalled. I'm so disappointed, man
They knew the sequel was a bad idea from the start, and they did it anyway. They said it was going to be a completely different game with no way of adding it to OW1 as update. Time flies and they've republished the same game with updates and called it OW2 and asked us to play this PvP mode patiently while they finish the PvE. Now that they've cancelled the PvE, we are left with everything that they've said OW2 was not going to be: OW1 with updates (and greedy microtransactions). We've been lied to, we've been betrayed and instead of apologizing, they prefer to ask us to keep our hype up for their future battlepasses. This game is free to play, but one thing that we often forget is that it's also free to uninstall.
the hilarious part is .. i got into OW2 SPECIFICALLY for the pve . a friend of mine introduced me to the universe of OW2 and i fell in love with the story , so discovering they were making a pve variant specifically to get to know the world was exciting ! unfortunately , seems like we won't get to see it .
Yeah, it really pained me to see him excited, only for it to be so so dissapointing and borderline disrespectful to the community. All the promises they made, yet people defending them for the lack of content saying it was for Ow2 pve, and even now people are defending this shitshow
I'm willing to bet money that the choice to make the game free to play was directly because they knew that they could be sued for false advertising had they sold the game and did not deliver on the promise of PVE. The devs are not only incompetent, they're malicious liars. My interest for this hinged on PVE, so my investment in the game is gone.
i dont think thats it. i think its the fact that due to blizzards incompetence, devs are leaving like crazy. they cant hire people quick enough to replace whos leaving. and its almost impossible for a new dev to pick up and finish someone elses work in this industry. i think they literally cannot complete pve at this point due to the company falling apart.
@@BringerOfMoisture two examples don’t prove the point, those are vastly less popular then other free to play games, and I said most. Free to play drives sales in of it self that’s why they did it. I was so excited for massive PvE experience and having something other than competitive play to do with my friends. The fact it was replayable and you could upgrade your favorite heroes was super exciting for me and my MMO brain. I am so angry they are pulling the rug out from us and are abandoning the THING THEY PROMISED. But why do I get the sinking feeling that it isn't the fact they couldn't do it, or wanted to focus on the live game, why do I feel like they are opting for this kind of release of story missions each season so they can CHARGE MONEY FOR THEM. I SWEAR IF I AM RIGHT IM GONNA BE PISSED. Also the idea of hero mastery missions seems cool, but SINGLE PLAYER? Im sorry i know a lot of people don't mind single player things but I would much more prefer to have multiplayer options and more multiplayer because i only play with my friends. This is a load of BS.
if pve was released it was gonna be trash too. but certainly better than this game still pretending its a competitive esport wich is too pathetic, its hilarious
"You think you want PVE, but you don't." Several months later: "You think you want PVE, and I think you're right." Everyone's just gonna forgive them again and the cycle is going to continue.
I don't think everyone is gonna forgive them. Just some people genuinely DO enjoy the game. But if there's nothing else to play, that scratches the same itch, people will just keep playing till the ship crashes. It happens with every game that dies out.
I think this might break that cycle, me and my friends always go though phases of overwatch and the gameplay of it scratches an itch no other game does. But my only reason to give this game hope was waiting for the PvE. Last played when Ramattra came out and seems its staying that way. I think a lot of people were holding onto the hope of the PvE and now that's basically gone there's not exactly a good reason to stay for stale, toxic PvP
This is the funeral dirge of Overwatch; the slow deathrattle, the meandering shamble into the grave - I can't imagine what it must be like to be a dev on this team...
What gets me, when all is said and done, is that there's not one sorry, not one apology in that entire presentation; just more of that ivory tower "it didn't go as planned" or "we did it for the good of whatever" sort of language gaslighting and deflections, anything to avoid just a simple apology. It's such a small thing, the barest of courtesy, and this company hasn't been able to do it for over a decade. Not even for this, where man....I think its kind of warranted more than ever. Even if they apologized the situation would still suck, and I'd still be asking a lot of questions but you know..."I'm sorry, it didn't work out" can go a long way. It's as basic as it gets. But no.
Now, I've tried to be pretty understanding of the devs and what they gotta put up with at a corporate level. This is inexcusable. It really makes it seem like the only thing the team was doing during quarantine was just screwing around on twitter and ordering doordash.
"we promise to be transparent and communicate with our players more," meanwhile they knew the entire time during OW2 preorders that PvE was cancelled. what a scam of a company
I have 0 pity for these devs, and any devs like these, they falsely marketed their product and in any other industry they could be sued, they were real happy to take all our money with expensive skins and now want to throw themselves a pity commercial cuz they over hyped their product to the point of being a lie. All I can say is hopefully it was enough for Bobby to get his new yacht.
@@James-9999 by no means am i defending blizzard here but... take? you do know you have to press some buttons yourself in order for blizzard to get any of your money, right?
I will say the hero trees they showed, if they were planning on all heros it would be 3*37 to get 111 skill trees which is a ton of work. Even if they just had 8 or like 12 heros available at lauch it would still be worth it and add other heros over time. If they PVP doesnt drastically improve. This game may be dead in a few years. Very disappointed for the news.
Exactly, like as the story continues they could add more and more missions and heroes… but they make enough money with the battlepass. There’s no way they would just throw away like 6 years of development otherwise
Yeah! Even if it was just too much work, I feel there could be a way to change it up to make it work. I mean, for God's sake, they've been working on it for like 4 years! 😅😔
I don't play enough to know how long seasons last but just give us a new hero or two and mission with each season. Honestly they could probably lower the skill trees to two per-character also. I feel like if they canceled it completely. They probably don't have enough developers and help on the game which is sad.
the fact that they have to put “on fire returning” as if it’s some big exciting thing and not just them bringing back a little UI thing that was unnecessarily removed in the first place…take us back Jeff
Feels so much like corporate layoff meetings. "Everythings doing great! So many plans for the future! Unfortunately you all have been impacted by reductions, turn in your keys btw. We have tons of new releases coming up! The company's doing wonderful!"
And the hog rework is taking 3 more seasons. I hope the other stuff will be kinda good. I liked the last few events and it‘s pretty balanced in most ranks right now.
Actually my guess is they will remove hogs hook, nerf his gun then give the new tank basically his old hook and cook one shot while hog just sits there
honestly, i feel like the fact that they cancelled pve, whilst still having a bunch of problems w the game is disappointing. I get that it's difficult to incorporate everything into something different but making the decision to cancel it. Wait 7 months and then come out knowing that the game is going to die eventually without pve? Even w ranked. I am diamond 5 dps and queued with master 2 dps and tank on the enemy team. It's sad to see a game with so much potential die because the execs (and maybe even some of the devs) just can't stop hoarding money because the company is dying out. I know Blizzard is dying out because they have been getting about an estimated %10 decrease in their annual income as a company as every year passes(this is the past few years btw. No hate to you, incase it seems that way just venting my opinion).
If they really care about the characters and story that they want to create, but still want to give support to the game, just gives the rights to a studio to make a movie for continuing that story while still having the team focus on the game
Flats, I kinda stopped playing OW2 for my own reasons, but I keep watching your channel because you have great content, and while I don't play the game, it's awesome watching someone as skilled as you play. Any thoughts on where you might end up after Season 6? I'm keen to watch whatever you might get up to.
I'm the same. I stopped playing a while ago but we really looking forward to the PVE. Looks like I'm never coming back now. Still gonna keep watching Flats (no matter where he goes).
What's crazy is he admits that they made this decision late last year, which is exactly when the game released. They decided to keep this on the hush for 7+ months until today to announce it in such a nonchalant way. Blizzard is actually foul
They needed to make as much money from battlepass before the game dies because there's no PvE...simple as that. This game won't live past 2025.

This. I was looking forward to something to play with friends who don’t like pvp. Seemed like it was going to be something along the lines of borderlands/Diablo skill tree without the items. That’s a lot for how many characters they have so having a few at a time would make so much sense.
You are clearly too smart to work at blizzard. This makes perfect sense.
Something tells me PVE was put on hold after releasing that first Battle Pass and seeing if the money would roll in from there. Now that they know it will sell with things like cosmetics and Collab events, they probably decided to scrap it and focus on these instead of the promised PVE.
Of course. They already did that with the archives events, so of course they could do it again.
It's obvious the decision to make PVE was half-baked from the get-go. They must have done no research into what it would take to make it. They could absolutely do small pieces to gauge interest and go from there. Morons!

Don’t forget, not that you could, but they are charging premiums for “legacy” content.
It is the execs, they make the decisions. But of course all the blizzard execs are serial rapists with unending lawsuits on their backs, they are at fault for the toxic and unhealthy work culture at blizzard
dont worry blizzard, you were very successful in communicating to us the kind of game you intend for this to be
This is insane.
The money and resources went to the executives pockets as they usually do with these gaming companies.
Perfectly stated
i feel the same i had skins and shit from overwatch one and my account got deleted and i lost everything and i want that back
They probably figured they could make more money charging people for skins that they would show off in PvP.
"we promise to be transparent and communicate with our players more," knowing damn well during OW2 preorders that there was never going to be PvE. what a scam of a company
im confused isn't pve still coming but in chunks each season and without the skill tree mechanics?
@jo-d it's gonna be similar to what they have done in the passed with events like the archive. Just missions that's it. It's extremely bare bones and nothing compared to what they promised.
I swear like what do you expect them to go on stream and admit that they are scamming and lying to players???
I like how they like to pretend that this game is somehow going to be alive after this lamo, nah from now on this game is basically dead.

The 2 was just the overhaul to monetization. It was all just a plan to turn the game into a micro transaction hell hole of cosmetics.

Only this isn't a person, it's a fucking company that takes your money and uses it to sexual harass and sell skins
"But at the same time, development on the PVE experience really has not made any progress that we would have hoped" -- shatters my heart the most.
Well that’s the point, that way they don’t actually have to change it😂
While I’m glad that we’re still gonna get story content, the decision to cancel the actual full PvE component is so disappointing. The skill tree sounded so interesting, a way to seemingly change how character abilities worked and “build” them how you wanted. As a Doom main, I’d have loved to see what they’d have come up with for him. What a shame.
Dont work that coll narrative will be available on the battlepass 6:51...this is the real reason. To sell BP lol
@@damp2269 there’s literally a workshop gamemode. coded in overwatch itself. that pulls off a better pve. ofc it doesn’t have its own detailed maps and it’s very limited, but it there’s so many buffs, debuffs, upgrades, bosses and more. and it’s called endless dungeon.
too bad blizzard themselves can’t do that, even tho people who play the game and don’t even develop the game can pull it off
@@damp2269 you believe Blizzard couldn't make PVE work? The company that made WOW and Diablo
@@Lathander81 well so far it seems like they can't
My hypothesis on Corporate Mentality:
1. Declare PVE is canceled (6 yrs content over)
2. Wait for upset fans to blow over
3. Re-purpose scrapped PVE content into small elements of the " New events/skins/maps and content"
I'm so glad that I'm preoccupied with other games when they announced this. It's really going to make uninstalling the game a lot easier.
Thank goodness for Nintendo :D
I was wanting to reinstall OW2 in an external drive since I needed to remove it for space, but now I think I'll just won't install it at all.
Yep. Jedi Survivor and Tears of the Kingdom will be taking up most of my time going forward this summer. I'm devastated.
Same, glad I focused on other things in life earlier, not playing this game would now be easier.
fr tears of the kingdom making this sting a lot less lmao
I joined the stream right as this interview ended, and seeing flats excitement at the start made me die inside a little.
This is such a heartbreaking video. I feel your pain and sadness, I hate seeing this new direction and hate hearing you so upset. I hope this turns around
sold us a dream and knew the whole time it would never come to fruition. So much for open communication and transparency to your player base. How can we support each other now? How is this made up to the community. This feels like an attack on my mental psyche. SMH
that's a good point, they said they would try to communicate more all while knowing that the big dream they sold of OW2 PvE was never going to happen. what a lying terrible company
@@NiteRacer well yeah, what do you expect them to admit they scamming👀
Yep most live services do, better to be focused on what’s actually in the game instead of some future made up version in your head that the devs gas up.
It's the fact that they purposely killed OW1 for absolutely no reason. Never felt this blue balled in my entire life.
But he gave plenty reasons why this change to OW2 was good. Like: They Updated the Shop, Added a battlepass, updated the engine, changed the game to 5v5 - thats plenty reasons for the 2 at the end of the name. You heard the man and Flats read the interview. It does make sense. You are just too stupid to see it KEKW
*this is sarcasm btw*
This game is free to play, but one thing that we often forget is that it's also free to uninstall.
the hilarious part is .. i got into OW2 SPECIFICALLY for the pve . a friend of mine introduced me to the universe of OW2 and i fell in love with the story , so discovering they were making a pve variant specifically to get to know the world was exciting ! unfortunately , seems like we won't get to see it .
same, I'm actually so disappointed right now. i was so invested in the lore and so excited for PVE. so, so disappointed.
We are getting pve but it’s not gonna have a lot of cool abilities to use
It’s crazy seeing helldivers today and seeing this imagine what overwatch could’ve had
I hate seeing how happy Flats was knowing what they were going to say 😢
Yeah, it really pained me to see him excited, only for it to be so so dissapointing and borderline disrespectful to the community. All the promises they made, yet people defending them for the lack of content saying it was for Ow2 pve, and even now people are defending this shitshow
exactly, at the beginning i was like ‘oh no..’ as i watched his excitement fade the more they spoke
That’s a bit of a reach, it’s very clearly free to play because that’s the only way most online games survive these days
@@owensthebomb9273 false. Siege and For Honor.
i dont think thats it. i think its the fact that due to blizzards incompetence, devs are leaving like crazy. they cant hire people quick enough to replace whos leaving. and its almost impossible for a new dev to pick up and finish someone elses work in this industry. i think they literally cannot complete pve at this point due to the company falling apart.
This is a load of BS.
if pve was released it was gonna be trash too. but certainly better than this game still pretending its a competitive esport wich is too pathetic, its hilarious
no one's gonna mention that the picture for mischief and magic is just a zoomed in pic of the castle in questwatch?

Several months later: "You think you want PVE, and I think you're right."
Everyone's just gonna forgive them again and the cycle is going to continue.
I don't think everyone is gonna forgive them. Just some people genuinely DO enjoy the game. But if there's nothing else to play, that scratches the same itch, people will just keep playing till the ship crashes. It happens with every game that dies out.
@@demidevilqueen Yeah Overwatch 2 is the only shooter me and my friends can play casually

25 million concurrent players say they lose half those because of no PvE it's still no where near dead and more than profitable

3 seasons minimum. it said s7 and beyond so basically all the low priority shit they havent actually worked on
They might as well make a new character if they're going to take 4 seasons to re-work this one
They might as well cancel those updates as well lmao
If they really care about the characters and story that they want to create, but still want to give support to the game, just gives the rights to a studio to make a movie for continuing that story while still having the team focus on the game
Right instead of baiting people with a PvE story mode they could've worked on the first szn of and Arcane style show for the past 3yrs.
