They DO make a lot of really bad moves in dev. But as to my understanding, a lot of the time it isn't them making the calls. They get ordered to do stupid things by their boss.
The sad truth is that Bobby Kotick supported everything we loved in Overwatch, but the team wasn't on the same page. For that reason the new Overwatch 2 is Overwatch 1 with live service became a thing. PvE spark died with Jeff leaving as you saw them releasing only levels from time Jeff was leading.
For going after Brig's VA. This reminds me of the time Steven Universe had an episode at a hotel that shared a name with a real world hotel, and people left poor reviews to the hotel over issues in the cartoon episode. It was really unfair.
"What is going on in LA" My brother in Mercy, this is going on globally. The number of good people compared to bad people, from what I've seen across the USA, is that the bads most definitely outweigh the goods. This world has and will always be evil in a mostly natural way, but I'm so happy to see more and more everywhere are on the side of good. It gives me hope.
I understand why Kaplan was resistant to the idea of hiering so many workers. Onboarding is a lot of work if you want to do it right so it would have stalled progress on both tasks for a while. If Kotick wasn't going to let them slow down OW1 development then it would have been a better idea to take the time to hire and onboard.
So I still think they’re cooking something “soon” . Their job posting asks for a digital advertising staff. Company typically staffing up advertising teams to prepare for a mass media awareness or low funnel goals. Either way something notable is on the way
Whats crazy is they said series for both overwatch, warcraft and diablo which is crazy now it stilll could happen but unlikely unless its somewhere else either like idk nick, cartoon network disney whatever channel network or any anime program but damn.
Ive been trying to see the good in blizzard, but damn they just keep digging themselves further down. The only thing theyre decent at is collabs now. Thats all they have going for them now. Whenever they have a good idea to improve the game, they immediately sgoot themselves in the foot before they manifest their idea into a real thing
Hiring a TON of new people can be bad because it can lead to a hostile takeover of the creative vision. Bobby Kotick might know how to chase profit, but he also doesn't respect the art form of making a game. Like we saw the other day, the article detailed how he and his people kept asking things about how much more Overwatch or Hearthstone could milk players for profit. Such things can destroy player faith long term
The rare Kotick not-evil take took me off gaurd, did not think it was possible for him to make a good decision for a game but… guess you learn something new every day.
Ok. I know this is mostly about OW. But. If there is actually a Final Fantasy tactics remaster that is real I’m gonna cry!!! And the lunar one! (Granted I know Lunar is real cause it’s been announced at this point)
Jeff likely didn't want the OW1 team to see the same fate as Guitar Hero teams/studios. Look at the amount of developer teams that were brought in/used for those games and how many were either let go or put onto different teams the moment any of the games didn't perform the way Bobby wanted.

If only the ow2 playerbase and community forced Blizz to do better as a whole. One of their biggest cash cows. Talk with your wallets, but no. Gotta buy every single overpriced skin - that's all they need.
They still could do it, they're just that lazy and greedy in the upper management lol. Overwatch may be fun occasionally but once Marvel Rivals drops, it's dead to me and I'll just log in to try the new supports. I gave up on getting all the jade weapons months ago.
You should try deadlock too, try out dynamo or viscous if u like support characters
Seeing you in the comments for months to a year, it’s crazy to see the change in heart. And I’m the same cause damn…
They wouldve made so much money AND could have brought new players in
11:48 this is the realest shit. I'm currently a game art student and I have tons of friends in my year but outside of that I don't know that many people. We're supposed to do an internship but the only people who were able to get one are the people who got one via their family who already work in in a company. Most likely if I wouldve made an active effort to stay in close contact with people who liked me at gatherings I wouldve had a better shot.
Hanzo and genji cinematic is what sold me. I saw those and it was an instant cop. Came even entebbe the last time i saw a really really good one
When I'm in a losing out on content competition and my opponent is an overwatch lore enjoyer
Why do anything other than pump out $40 weapon skins and $20 recolors when that makes you money and cinematics don’t 4hed
Hey at least we got that awesome PvE experience they promised us with tons of replayability and cool ability customization...
I love overwatch 2, what a great game :)
Why did i have to know this? I could spend hours talking about how an overwatch series or movie or anything lore related would be amazing. But to know that we missed out on yet another great addidion to overwatch is heart-breaking
"did someone die" - this is covered extensively in my book, but...
team fortress 2 fans: 'first time?'
I don't know anything about the proposed series story, but I bet they could focus around the Imari and Shimada families and make a pretty kickass show. Brothers at odds, and daughter inheriting her mother's fight. Sounds like a few good angles to me.
I'll write it for you Blizzard.
As someone who is extremely interested in ow alternatives, this is very hillarious and therapeutic
To think this started 10 years ago its a miracle we don't have popup adds mid fight in overwatch today.
Afaik from a statement by Pirate Software, The micro transaction mount in question made more money than generated from Starcraft II - Wings of Liberty- a DLC, not the entirety of the game itself.
16:23 "I've said this so many times, every time I say this I get called a fucking shill. Like, dude, you guys don't know what a shill is, you dumb fucks. I've met so many people at Blizzard, at least on the Overwatch side and a lot of them really do care, like the actual dev team, the people who work on the game, genuinely give so much of a shit. It hurts, I think, them to see when people say like 'nah, you guys suck, you don't actually care'"
Man, I appreciate seeing this sincerity. It gets under my skin so much when people do what you described... God, the Brig VA thing, too. Thanks for having, like, a normal take on this. It's so nice to see.
They DO make a lot of really bad moves in dev. But as to my understanding, a lot of the time it isn't them making the calls. They get ordered to do stupid things by their boss.
blizzard bag fumbling?? shocker
Man, hearing all this is real depressing. I don’t even know what to say. The only thing that can save gaming now, is for it to die first.
This overwatch story is never gonna get off the ground.
I remember hearing that rumor and getting my hopes up. HAH, I know better now.
Maybe I'm wrong but wasn't an animated series planned for OW since Doomfist release ? Which was why his trailer was animated instead of CGi.
The rare Kotick not-evil take took me off gaurd, did not think it was possible for him to make a good decision for a game but… guess you learn something new every day.
The mishandling of Overwatch by the suits at Activision never seizes to get me fuming 😡
I just finished watching flats reacting to drama just to see new drama reaction 26 second later
Well, I guess the most lore we are gonna get now is the hero descriptions on the website :
Damn it! There's one thing I would never lose... it is Hope.
Called it.
Dang guess we will never get that Death of Reinhardt On screen sacrifice for his team huh?
As a big Jeff Kaplan hater, hearing about him straight up denying more help for OW2 makes me feel vindicated.
Why are you a Jeff Kaplan hater?
@@kupcakez Fundementally his vision for the game during it's development was flawed and the direction he took the game after it's launch was straight up awful, especially around 2018.
Overwatch 2 was an overly ambitious game that no one asked for in its original form apart from Kaplan, and his push for such a game is what led Overwatch into the situation it's currently in and he left before anyone could blame him for it.
He also 100% knew about the Toxic Frat Boy Culture at Blizzard and did and said nothing. If you're in that position of power, you must've known what was going on, even if he didn't participate or endorse it.
It's the Kotaku editor, it's probably clickbait to get people to buy his book.
I lol'd when I saw the comment about how strongly he believes in "no-surprises" journalism when they were the primary peddler of publish first confirm later yellow journalism.
Talk about how it was devs that ruined the game and not Bobby. Bobby offered to give more money to hire more teams but team 4 said no
I am not surprised.
It’s fucking crazy that Arcane and Edgerunners get a second season while Overwatch doesn’t even get a crum.
The biggest fumble of OW is that it didn't go multi-media.
Hearing all this is just
Damn.
After the cancelation of pve I thought that experiencing even more disappointment is simply impossible, but every couple months it's just keeps comin and comin
22:06 AH FLASHBANG-- I FEEL HINDERED
I don't watch many shows but I would have watched this. The cinematics are so good already.
this literally happened to tf2. history is a flat circle
Blizzard was choosing the wrong choice at every dialouge option.
Just when i think this franchise cant disappoint me anymore they somehow find a way to do it
Damn that's just sad news cause everyone I know kept asking why is there no Netflix show or any show of ow
“The sex parties.”
To quote Steven he….
“WHAT THE HAAAAAAIL??”
Maybe not a COD factory level but definitely more teams to support all those needs
Overwatch: coulda been an email
Overwatch could’ve been the Pixar of games.
