There is a fascination with the Krays which I also share. However having lived through the troubles in Northern Ireland I have witnessed gangsterism, hardened men, a mafia controlled society, torture, brutality and violence on a level way beyond what the Krays or any other English gangsters offered. That's not in any way a boast or glamourising, but simply a fact of life growing up in Belfast. Unfortunately during this period we had hundreds of Kray type characters with capabilities and resources that make the Krays look like the krankies.
Such successful villains that they were shut away until death by the age of thirty five. They only stayed at liberty that long because people were afraid to testify and the police were so corrupt. Did they succeed so well that they lived extravagant lives in beautiful places? No. So, all things considered they were very, very poor at being criminals. What complete failures.
