I miss early 90's CGI. Like, yeah, I know, it's rudimentary compared to CGI today, but that's a big part of the charm of the older stuff. A lot of it was _too_ rudimentary to be of much use as a storytelling medium on its own, like what Pixar became. So instead, people would make these crazy, trippy abstract experimental shorts with it, and really pushed the creativity with what could be done with the new tech. And because photo-real quality wasn't a preconceived expectation from audiences back then, the animators could make something like this and people would still be impressed. I love the lo-fi cyber-surrealist aesthetic.
"First it steals your mind and then it steals your, first it steals your mind and then it steals your, first it steals your mind and then it steals your.... SOOOUL..." I fuckin love this song
I got this album the day it came out in '94, and I still remember that afternoon well. I've had a lot of albums come and go in my life since then. My music tastes have changed, and changed back. Still, this one had the right music at the right time to be something pretty special.
I didn't know the circumstances when I made my post. In any event to be judged a coward I'd say one has to be in a rational state. I have no idea if he was or not so certainly couldn't make that call.
He spent most of his life struggling with alcohol and drugs. Recently it seemed like he was making a serious effort to get clean, likely in big part for the benefit of his family. Problem is that there's always risk. Sometimes it works out. And sometimes when you get clean the demons come back twice as hard. Can those demons make someone do something they really wouldn't want to normally? I wouldn't doubt it. He probably knew the risks of both ways and decided to take a shot at the one that offered some hope. Still very risky after the brain has become accustomed to drugs and alcohol being there over years and years. I'd say that was pretty brave.
Chris is alive in the Superunknown. RIP Christopher we will always remember you, we will never forget you, and your legacy will echo throughout generations. We love you, Ben, Matt, Kim, Hiro, and the rest of the talented souls that assisted in the craft of Soundgarden. God Bless your soul, Cornell...

In my opinion, this song and video go together beautifully ... I consider THIS a classic, even with all the rough edges of the video, BRILLIANT for the times, even by today's standards ... who's with me on this ???
This song to me has always been about rising above duality. Society has categories and boxes they try to fit everyone in and the superunknown is a rejection of these and is stating if you are happy, doesn't mean you're sad, if you are x, it doesn't mean you're y by default. Rising above concepts and precepts. The greatest example would be politics. If you aren't for one party, you must be for the opposite based on your opposition, which is just not true. There is a old Indian philosophy of nonduality and it seems the superunknown refers to this realm of open possibilities and a consciousness beyond concepts.
I always got that vibe from it too. Don't know about old Indian philosophies or anything, but I do know a presumed dichotomy when I see one. They are generally idiotic.
I always seen it this way. Ive always naturally followed the path of the "Superunknown" in most things due to my laid back personality. Especially when growing up in school. Never fell in any crowd. I hung out in every crowd. With the Goths, the Punks, the Jocks, Geeks, Nerds, Gamers...I was just me. I guess i would be a "Superunknown".
