I think it’s great that you used the product for 3 months before reviewing it. Very professional in my Opinion. You can’t really use a product for 1 week and think you’re going to see a major change.
I’ve been SO curious about this. Thanks for reviewing it😊 I must add that your skin looks absolutely incredible. Probably the best I’ve seen and I’ve followed you for years. ❤
I overdid with tretinoin, my skin was burning with moisture, facewash and literally anything i put on it. I stopped everything, got this serum 2 days back , applied day and night. In the day on damp skin, with my regular moisturiser and spf. During the night on damp skin, with the thickest layer of cerave moisturer (tub) My skin was rescued in 1 day!!! however i waited one day more and applied this serum as above mentioned! This serum saved my skin!
It's so good to hear someone else say the same things I have faced when using the Ordinary products previously. They do not work well with other products, not just pilling but burning as well, they foam and I do not enjoy those pipettes either. Also, none of their products ever did anything much for my skin. I didn't go crazy with actives but I bought mostly their hydrating serums (like the buffet, peptides, marine hyaluronics ones) and I didn't even feel like they hydrated my skin or did anything at all. The buffet serum was the worst because it just sat on top of my skin and did not even sink in. This pink serum looks interesting should I give it another chance..hmm..I'm gonna have to wait and see.
Please do a video about hydrating products/ products to take into dry winter months! It’s so freezing in New York and my skin is doing things I’ve never seen
I've been using this one at night and the aloe in the morning then argireline on the fine lines area 😊 I have rosacea and dry skin and it has been amazing. It is more costly than other serums from the brand but with the right combo it does wonders.
I have severe psoriasis and generally very sensitive, dehydrated skin. Been using this product for a few days and I don't think my skin has ever felt so soft, at least not since I was a baby. I don't know how they've done it but I am honestly amazed at a product doing what it claims to do in such a short amount of time. I haven't had to use immunosuppressive ointment on my face since I started using this.
This serum was amazing! I’ve used it for 2 weeks or so and it’s just soooo lovely. Skin feels plump and smoother. During the day I do feel I look very shiny so prefer using it at night.
I'm so glad you like this one James because I ordered it right before you posted this video! I needed to replenish my Glucoside cleanser and wanted to try this one to help aid my barrier in these dry winter months. The sale and the offer of a free multi-peptide eye serum with purchase and free shipping made the decision to try it much easier! I have normal-oily, oily in my t-zone, sensitive, acne-prone skin. My skin doesn't play well with super thick creams or most facial oils so I'm excited to try this one out. You said you can't use it with vitamin c...I'm wondering if that includes THD ascorbate as that's the vitamin c derivative/ester that I use every morning. If I can't use them together, I'll use this one at night for sure.
I've only been using this serum for a few days but I like it, so I'm relieved this is a positive review. I picked it up on a whim during the November sale.
I was very interested in this serum after seeing the ingredient list--I have rosacea too so this sounds promising. (I use actives, including tretinoin, so barrier repair is always top of mind for me when looking at swapping serums around for seasonal changes.) An LED mask was already on my wishlist so I'm definitely buying myself one after the new year.
I Just used my omnilux face, chest and neck led light mask last night and I thought when I looked in the mirror my face would look calm and glowing. instead my usual facial redness due to rosacea was so much worse. I know this can happen though and can go away after a few hours. Now I woke up and my facial redness is actually a lot better than it normally is. So just don’t be surprised when right after your redness looks a lot worse. I’m. Going to keep using it and see if the pros out weigh the cons. I would definitely recommend using it at night before bed so you’re not walking around all day with extreme redness.
@@costcochurros your welcome. So far everything is good and I am going to keep using my mask! I woke up today and after 1 use I feel my rosacea redness looked better. But again just know it will probably look way worse right after you use the mask! Good luck 😊
@@costcochurros I have to update you because I am amazed by my results already. Today I did my 3rd led light treatment. Yesterday was my 2nd treatment and already the results have been absolutely incredible! My facial flushing and broke capillaries are nearly gone already 😩 with only 2 sessions as of yesterday. I can not believe how effective this treatment has been so quickly. I contacted omnilux about the redness after my treatments and it turns out that is exactly what’s supposed to happen because it increases blood flow. So it’s 100% normal and to be expected. The redness calms after an hour or 2 for me. I really hope you go forward with the red light therapy mask it has been an huge game changer for my rosacea already. I also would like to mention that prior to this mask about a Year ago I did 2 BBL laser treatments on my face for rosacea and it did absolutely NOTHING, ZERO RESULTS, ZERO DIFFERENCE. In a matter of two led red light sessions my redness and broken capillaries are almost gone. I’m Amazed, even my husband has noticed how calm my skin is already. Also omnilux offers payment plans which is what I did to get my mask! So it is affordable
I’m on my second bottle of the calming serum. I love it! It’s done so much for my skin. It has calmed the redness, the texture and helped with dark spots. I used it every night and day but now I’m just using it at night. I have sensitive dry skin.
I am going to try this serum out. I love the Buffet serum and I hope I'll love this as much. As a tretinoin user I am always looking to calm any sensitivity.
Yay! been waiting for the Real One's verdict on this (ok, well I do listen to Alice too). Also what was the museum podcast you mentioned on the live yesterday? I've been looking but can't find it Comparing this to a purely Centella serum was so helpful. Been looking at serums for my niece with rosacea. Think I'm gonna try her with Centella first, then this one. Thank you!
Hi James, I Just wanted to let you know that i am not getting ANY notifications from your videos or Welsh Twins!! I thought you'd stopped streaming so I actively sort you out?! I don't know if this is happening to any other followers? maybe it's a youtube thing?! Because I love all your content and even tho I subbed for nails, not getting that either?! Getting loads of Robert however which is great! I need to brush up on my makeup! But I also need you for my skincare, I bought a bunch of stuff and I have no clue what I'm doing so just put them on in layers?! Plus my nails are falling off! !!! And I NEED the Twin channel in my life! Thanx so much! lots of love!
It seems like an amazing serum , I pay more for T.O Multi Peptide & Copper Peptide 1% serum . My tret formulary has Azelaic Acid & Niacinimide so I don't need it but know a ffiend who will . Slovember Sale too ! 😊🙌👏🇬🇧
I wanted to like this serum but for some reason it always make my face itchy for at least 20 mins and then it disappears. But I feel like it’s not worth enduring the slight irritation when there are other calming products that are more elegant. I used this on my heels instead and it works great
When you said that "our skin barrier is...our skin barrier" it reminded me of a time when I had a total brain fart in class and told my students that "a metaphor is a metaphor for something" 🤣😭
Hi!!! Kinda unrelated, but where do you get the naturium lip glow balms in the UK? Cuz I’m also trying to find them in the Netherlands but I can’t find them 😭😭😭😭
Hi, my name is Melvina, I watch you all the time and I enjoy your content, thank you. Have you tried COSRX Comfort Ceramide Cream Mist | Ceramide-6 Complex |I have been using it for a few weeks and I love it I spray it on my face between each step of my skincare routine and it gives amazing moisture and really soft skin.
My skin straight up does not recognize this serum as belonging on my skin. Applied alone to clean, dry skin it pills like crazy on me. It doesn't irritate my skin, but it's as if my skin rejects it. I also notice zero difference in my skin after using it for several weeks.
For everyone who doesn’t like a pipettes, just get a pump sold separately from niod, it fits and works with all ordinary bottles, you can reuse them too, so easy and cheap
Omg yes!! I HATE pipettes so much, even though they're recyclable and pumps aren't. I remind myself green efforts NEED to be led by those at the top, not the bottom for meaningful change.
Thanks for the review on this! I’ve been eyeing it. Maybe I’m an outlier, but I’ve really liked a few of The Ordinary’s older products / formulations because it’s an easy way for me to add a single skincare ingredient into my routine without upsetting my skin. Although my skin is in much better shape now, I used to be a lot more sensitive and react to things if I tried to introduce too much at once. So I’ve always appreciated their product line for that reason. Ditto for avoiding a lot of nice looking products that have allergens or sensitizing things like some fragrances or oils.
Totally, that’s the thing about TO I really love. I can customize not only my routine in general but also adapt on a daily basis if my skin needs more or less of something. Relatively cheap, and generally effective. It’s great.
That's why I really love The Ordinary too! I don't have to sift through a ton of ingredients and try to guess which one isn't agreeing with me if I don't like it. I'm also not one for fancy scents because I'm very headache prone. So the fact that they have basically no smell is perfect for me!
Hi James! Niod sells pumps and I have been adding them to my ordinary bottles that are more viscous. Definitely grab some and you won’t be disappointed ❤
As i know, as a chemist, in ingredientes that are NOT l-ascorbic acid (vit C), and tretinoin, it’s BETTER to apply them on wet skin to increase penetration and avoid peeling
@@Jhud69that isn’t true because of my own experience. I apply all of my serums while my face is damp and I only use The Ordinary’s serums minus my retinol when I use that. The niacinamide and HA serum foam up no matter what, but I do notice that it gets foamier if I use too much.
I’ve been using it, and I’ve been suffering from acne, my whole life, terrible, painful, cystic, acne. This combined with Cetaphil and regular aloe from my garden has really helped. Actually, I feel more beautiful than I felt in over two years. I don’t know if it’s the serum necessarily or the face wash
@@Bardes82 you are beautiful inside and out, thank you ❤️❤️ I presently started taking a vitamin called dermatrophin pmg and wow all my acne scars and marks heal like 10 times faster. There’s something going on with people that have acne caused by a lack of nutrients. I forgot the name of the other UA-cam channel I saw this doctor talking about it on, I also started taking a zinc supplement. Both have tremendously helped in the turnover rate for marks and even minimizing the amount I get.
Hi darling! I’m a cosmetic skincare formulator and I just have to mention, regarding the wording as “helps skincare barrier” ect. We have to use specific wording like this legally, as a cosmetic product, if we word something as “heals acne, heals redness”, it’s considered a drug. So even if said cosmetic can actually heal redness, we’re not allowed to mention that on the marketing, only that it “helps the appearance”. It’s so dumb 😅
Hi, James! As I was starting your video, I was in the middle of purchasing the Olay Super Serum and Olay Super Serum Night Repair., which are $30 each, not including the Cyber Monday discount (plus a free gift) Olay is running on their website right now. But as I listened to you talk about this and compared the ingredients, I decided to go with The Ordinary one instead, especially because it is on sale for just under $14 on their website for Cyber Monday (plus a free sample of one of their eye serums). However, I would have paid the $17 for it, considering I was willing to pay $30 for the Olay ones. To me, it means I may save a good bit by going with The Ordinary, if I end up liking it. Thanks for this video!
I've been using this serum for a couple of months now. Its made such a difference to my rosacea but the biggest benefit has been to the ecezma I was getting on and around my eyelids. I was having to use steroid cream to help settle it down but once stopping the cream it would return. Since using the serum I haven't had any ecezma. I tired to remember to use it twice daily but I'm not great with my morning routine but I do use it every night and it's made a world of difference. It's worth every penny.
I'm glad it's working for you around your eyes. Steroids shouldn't be used on the face. Especially, around the eyes.😮 I suffer from psoriasis, which is thankfully under control now. Even when plaques would appear anywhere on my face, I was warned to never apply steroids. Steroids actually break down skin. Anywhere you apply steroids, the layers of skin are destroyed. And because the skin is so very thin, especially around the eyes, it can lead to sores or fissures that will not heal.
I really love this serum for treating my skin after tretinoin use. I’m currently on the retinization stage with lots of peeling and some sensitivity here and there, nothing crazy but still present. This serum is very similar to the Niod’s Modulating glucosides, texture and smell wise. It soothes and hydrates my skin really well. Love them both and will continue to repurchase.
I am on my third. Really has helped my skin barrier when i was too aggressive with some new actives. Tend to use it as last step at night. Color does not come off on my pillow
The idea of "a hundred people" for a fair and clinical trial is eh...meh. Really the number of people who should be used on a clinical trial depends on statistical determination of power. This depends on the effect of the size you are looking for, the number of people, compounding factors such as age, sex, climate etc. 100 even sounds on the low end for a trial where you are looking for a huge effect in perfect conditions. There is no way what so ever that they had enough statistical power in 30 odd people to have any kind of realistic detection of an effect. Furthermore, having an underpowered study leads to increased false positives in statistical analysis so eh, yeah. I don't believe that data what so ever. Is it prob good for your skin, yeah. Better than a decent moisturiser, who knows,...but with data that poor an n number I skeptical of their 2 hour claim. Still it's a pretty colour and I like skin care so I'd probably enjoy using it.
I've been prescribed Epiduo for acne (0.1% Adapalene and 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide) and it's been taking a huge toll on my skin... But this serum has really helped me. My skin was red like a tomato, every part of my face was peeling off, even my neck and eyelids were peeling off even though I didn't apply Epiduo there, my skin burned and stinged everytime I applied moisturiser, cleanser, or Epiduo. Now I've taken a 4 day break from Epiduo and I've been using this barrier serum twice a day, and within two days my skin improved so much. I still have acne but now my skin doesn't hurt anymore when I apply product and the peeling has stopped. Also my skin texture feels smooth, though I can still feel the nodular acne underneath, but the surface of the skin is smooth when before it was rough and dry. I'm planning on continuing Epiduo tonight and I'll continue using the barrier support serum in the mornings, and if the Epiduo starts giving me issues again, I'll just take another break to give my skin some time to heal with the barrier serum. This serum is definitely helping me, without it there's no way my skin would've returned to a good condition within two days of stopping Epiduo. It's quite rare to find a product that shows results so quickly. But I think that this serum works the best if you have a very damaged skin barrier, if you don't or it's just slightly damaged, then maybe you won't see as drastic results so quickly as I did Edit: 8 months later and my skin is clear! The combination of Epiduo AND barrier-soothing products worked for me.
I like adapalene (diferin, at night) and benzoyl peroxide *separately* (via panoxyl face wash, leave on as a mask for 3 minutes). I can imagine they could be irritating together. Hope you find something that works well for you!
yeayy'm so glad you reviewed this one! As a fellow rosacea sufferer, I was sceptically sitting on the fence about this one. Buying right away. On a side note: I quite like the pipette bottles cos they are easily recyclable and there is no product lost like with pumps. Anyho, Love your calming voice and your content James! 💛
Ur skin look soo clear, flawless, calm and happy looking! ❤ zero redness. Idk if the tinted ss helps but DAMN progression over perfection my ass, your skin is perfection to me ❤
My skin also loves this serum. I suffer from Rosacea as well, especially in the winter.Since I started using this serum, I haven’t had a flare up. I’m so happy I tried this!
I agree with it being so nice to see a multi-ingredient product from TO. I am still using up all of my single tubes of TO product actives. They work well--some of them better than the multi-active serums from other companies. But good grief--so tired of figuring out what to layer, how to layer, rotate, etc. Skincare was getting exhausting and now I just want to simplify!
Oooohhh, this one sounds nice. I can't be arsed carrying so many wee bottles with me when I go travelling. You can only fit so many in one of those wee plastic bags. I think it sounds like an OK price, you pay for their expertise in balancing the ingredients.
I love this serum! For context: I have oily skin that easily gets dehydrated in colder weather, when the air is dry. This helps my skin not feel tight, and therefore prevents my skin from overproducing more oil on top of my already oily skin. Pro tip: use this before getting on a flight! Before using this, my skin would be wrecked from the recycled air on hours-long flights -- but this resolved my issues of tightness and irritation!
I had a pretty intense allergic reaction to this. Not sure what component was the culprit. I’m an esthetician and I’m up and up on my ingredients so didn’t think anything of it. I’m bummed out because it does have solid basic helpful skin ingredients nothing extraordinary but good. Who knows could have been something else but that was the only thing different I did
I would love to see Robert try some of the products you give a thumbs up to and have him test this whole “plays well with other products “ concept. I’d love to know how this would play under foundations.
Well, I LOVE this serum too. In fact, I’m on my 3rd bottle and I buy it every few weeks because I use Tretinonin so my skin barrier needs it. I do feel an improvement in that itch that comes along with a compromised skin barrier as soon as I apply it. It is a little bit expensive in my opinion for 30ml I feel it should be between £11-£13
I have it. I love it. My aging combo skin isn’t dehydrated underneath an oil slick anymore. My red places (chin, cheeks, forehead) are looking better. It’s been a great addition to my nightly routine (still doing vitamin C in the morning).
I was about to order this based on this review, but then I just kept thinking, I get this same result from my PY barrier cream and it's only $10 a jar and last me about 6 weeks using morning and night (under sunscreen in the am). I think if I didn't already have snail mucin toner and barrier cream that I love in combination for moist, soft skin that doesn't break out this might be a good choice for me. But I'm not going to try to fix what isn't broken at this point. I can't see using 2 barrier products, particularly since I'm maintaining a healthy skin barrier with tretinoin, glycolic acid and microneedling, but not trying to repair a damaged barrier. I appreciate this balanced review in helping me clarify my intentions.
I had a little "accident" at the beginning of the month. I didn't know I was getting ill and because I was cold, I overused electrical heater at work. Of course it left my skin parched, itchy and every single cream or serum felt like rubbing jalapenos on my skin. And this serum worked amazing! I wouldn't say it repaired my skin barrier in 2 hours but definitely in 2 days of using it twice daily burning and inflammation was gone. I love it. But it's expensive and I don't need it anymore at this point so woludn't repurchase, but in an emergency I would come back to it.
I just purchased…what step of my routine should I use this? Any products that I should not use it with?? Retinol specifically…can I use retinols with this??
My skin is in a terrible shape. It was doing very well but I got a bad cold and the bad weather set in. My skin currently is compromised. My barrier is irritated. However I know that ceramides and thicker moisture are great but my skin is comedogenic sensitive. So I have to almost spot treat my compromised areas
I'm 32 secs into this video & I just had a thought I wanted to share. Do you think the pandemic had anything to do with us as consumers being super attentive to the things that are in our skincare & that we put on our bodies? This isn't a political question. I just wondered that since we were very aware & cautious about things touching us, if that combined with the trend of single-ingredient products was more appealing to us back then, & that now that things have relaxed, we're more comfortable returning to more complex products, but nowadays we have an increased awareness and interest in ingredients overall. I'm not going to engage in a heated conversation here in the comment section. I just wondered what James & you guys thought.
Just an FYI: This serum is amazing for post shaving irritation and razor burn. Best thing I've ever used to keep my bikini line bump free.
It IS said that it helps with itching and irritation, so what you said confirmed it.
Thanks for sharing!
I’m sold now!!!

This really sounds like it would be a good addition in cold climates. Up here in the far north of Scandinavia winter takes a great toll on the skin.

I think it’s great and stocked up on a lot of the ordinary products in November!! Love it ❤
Hi, my name is Melvina, I watch you all the time and I enjoy your content, thank you. Have you tried COSRX Comfort Ceramide Cream Mist | Ceramide-6 Complex |I have been using it for a few weeks and I love it I spray it on my face between each step of my skincare routine and it gives amazing moisture and really soft skin.
Hmm might have to try
Im goinh to try it!
This has been amazing for me.
"Could you please review the skincare line from Florence by Mills?"
I use this for two months could not tell a difference!
Which tinted sunscreen u wears?
It looks like Pepto Bismol
If you save 4 other The Ordinary serums for this, I think the higher price is ok.
I don’t use the dropper at all, I just pour however much I want into my hand 😂
Fantastic tip!!
@@FongYukYubut re-using something many times over is better than recycling single-use things, so arguably the pump is better
@@shortcake66 Pipettes are typically quite easy to take apart and clean! I do this frequently to reuse glass ones :)
JAMES! Please do a video with your latest skincare routine, or just something we can draw inspiration from. Thank you!
i second this!! i’m getting back into skincare and i’m so lost loll
I found the ordinary useful for this same reason
Hi James! Niod sells pumps and I have been adding them to my ordinary bottles that are more viscous. Definitely grab some and you won’t be disappointed ❤
I remember their niacinamide serum applying soapy a lot years back, I definitely know what youre describing when you say the HA serum would foam up
Iirc the foaming up is because your skin is not 100% dry/degreased. You have to apply it when your skin is 100% dry
Nooooooooooo😂
As i know, as a chemist, in ingredientes that are NOT l-ascorbic acid (vit C), and tretinoin, it’s BETTER to apply them on wet skin to increase penetration and avoid peeling
@@Jhud69that isn’t true because of my own experience. I apply all of my serums while my face is damp and I only use The Ordinary’s serums minus my retinol when I use that. The niacinamide and HA serum foam up no matter what, but I do notice that it gets foamier if I use too much.
@@Jhud69HA should be applied on damp skin friend
I’ve been using it, and I’ve been suffering from acne, my whole life, terrible, painful, cystic, acne. This combined with Cetaphil and regular aloe from my garden has really helped. Actually, I feel more beautiful than I felt in over two years. I don’t know if it’s the serum necessarily or the face wash
I love this comment. We all deserve to feel beautiful and I'm so happy you feel beautiful, again! I'm sure you're stunning!
Listening to you very calmly explain skin care is so therapeutic.
Wow! Olay charging $30 for serums. That’s a lot for drugstore prices.
Actually, what sold me more than your review is the absolutely glowing glass skin you have right now. Running off to Sephora to get one now 🏃♀️
I've been using this serum for a couple of months now.
Happy to hear someone mention eczema. Thinking about trying this on my hands as they get horrible in winter. Try and fix it now!
Love them both and will continue to repurchase.
i'm currently struggling with that stage with tretinoin so I appreciate your comment/insight! I'll look into this!
i’m also going through this and was wondering if this would help me, thank you for your insight, gonna get it rn
Came here to say it’s a must have for us tret users
i'm wondering what's the difference between the two? which one is better at soothing?
how long do you wait after using tret?
But I think that this serum works the best if you have a very damaged skin barrier, if you don't or it's just slightly damaged, then maybe you won't see as drastic results so quickly as I did
Edit: 8 months later and my skin is clear!
I like the dropper bottles for the same reason! ♻ Some of their stores accept empties (from any brand) for recycling, too.
I liked the serum with my tretinoin journey, especially noticed soothing when increasing tge%
I've been using this serum for a few weeks and really enjoying it. I have dry skin and it seems to help comfort my skin.
Who knows could have been something else but that was the only thing different I did
Maybe it was concentration or combination of ingredient formula
My skin also got very spicy after using this. I’m also bummed because on paper this would have been ideal for me!
I have an ugly reaction to feverfew, which is considered a calming ingredient. It's in all of Aveenos products.
have you seen cassandra’s video on this? might be helpful
I know I can’t use this because of the Niacinamide. It always makes my skin burn.
love the random american accent - i've heard so many americans doing a silly british accent that it's nice to see someone fighting back :P
I would love to see Robert try some of the products you give a thumbs up to and have him test this whole “plays well with other products “ concept. I’d love to know how this would play under foundations.
Pet-friendly note: If you have a dog, don't let them lick your face or hands (wherever you have applied it) after using this. It contains Xylitol.
oh my, that should be on the bottle, glad to know I won’t purchase it, my furbaby licks my face before going to bed and first thing in the morning.❤
I love the Ordinary but this didn't make a difference in my skin , and I experienced a lot of pilling.
Don't know why y'all saying the orice is high. If you buy each ingredient individually from the Ordinary, it would add up.
My goodness James, your skin is flawless!! 💜
Well, I LOVE this serum too. In fact, I’m on my 3rd bottle and I buy it every few weeks because I use Tretinonin so my skin barrier needs it. I do feel an improvement in that itch that comes along with a compromised skin barrier as soon as I apply it. It is a little bit expensive in my opinion for 30ml I feel it should be between £11-£13
I'm on tretinoin as well and my skin is struggling at the moment 😩 when do you apply this serum in your routine? Before? After? Morning? 😊
@@rebeckaericson9685I was just about to ask them the same question!
When do you apply it ?
I have it.
“liTeRatUrE” (in american accent)
Same with the multiple vitamins 😂😂
It seems to me like the ordinary's serums that have multiple ingredients do tend to cost a little more. For instance the buffet.
Thanks a lot James, now I have to buy another serum. JK - this sounds amazing, I really can't wait to try it.
I really like this serum since I use tretinion and other actives
bought this 2 months ago, i love it! my skin no longer sensitive to retinol
i’m going through retinisation, omw to get it
Now I want to get this and see if it'll help with my irritation and redness and whatnot from Differin
Thank you so much for testing this for months before giving your review. I hate when people do reviews based on 1x trying the product. Youre amazing
I feel itchy in my neck area and cheeks which are the most sensitive parts of my face, it does the opposite of calming my skin😂
One reason for the abnormally high cost may be the fact that Estee Lauder now owns the ordinary
100% they heard you and panicked 😂
