I've been prescribed Epiduo for acne (0.1% Adapalene and 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide) and it's been taking a huge toll on my skin... But this serum has really helped me. My skin was red like a tomato, every part of my face was peeling off, even my neck and eyelids were peeling off even though I didn't apply Epiduo there, my skin burned and stinged everytime I applied moisturiser, cleanser, or Epiduo. Now I've taken a 4 day break from Epiduo and I've been using this barrier serum twice a day, and within two days my skin improved so much. I still have acne but now my skin doesn't hurt anymore when I apply product and the peeling has stopped. Also my skin texture feels smooth, though I can still feel the nodular acne underneath, but the surface of the skin is smooth when before it was rough and dry. I'm planning on continuing Epiduo tonight and I'll continue using the barrier support serum in the mornings, and if the Epiduo starts giving me issues again, I'll just take another break to give my skin some time to heal with the barrier serum. This serum is definitely helping me, without it there's no way my skin would've returned to a good condition within two days of stopping Epiduo. It's quite rare to find a product that shows results so quickly. But I think that this serum works the best if you have a very damaged skin barrier, if you don't or it's just slightly damaged, then maybe you won't see as drastic results so quickly as I did Edit: 8 months later and my skin is clear! The combination of Epiduo AND barrier-soothing products worked for me.
I like adapalene (diferin, at night) and benzoyl peroxide *separately* (via panoxyl face wash, leave on as a mask for 3 minutes). I can imagine they could be irritating together. Hope you find something that works well for you!
Ur skin look soo clear, flawless, calm and happy looking! ❤ zero redness. Idk if the tinted ss helps but DAMN progression over perfection my ass, your skin is perfection to me ❤
I am on my third. Really has helped my skin barrier when i was too aggressive with some new actives. Tend to use it as last step at night. Color does not come off on my pillow
I overdid with tretinoin, my skin was burning with moisture, facewash and literally anything i put on it. I stopped everything, got this serum 2 days back , applied day and night. In the day on damp skin, with my regular moisturiser and spf. During the night on damp skin, with the thickest layer of cerave moisturer (tub) My skin was rescued in 1 day!!! however i waited one day more and applied this serum as above mentioned! This serum saved my skin!
yeayy'm so glad you reviewed this one! As a fellow rosacea sufferer, I was sceptically sitting on the fence about this one. Buying right away. On a side note: I quite like the pipette bottles cos they are easily recyclable and there is no product lost like with pumps. Anyho, Love your calming voice and your content James! 💛
I agree with it being so nice to see a multi-ingredient product from TO. I am still using up all of my single tubes of TO product actives. They work well--some of them better than the multi-active serums from other companies. But good grief--so tired of figuring out what to layer, how to layer, rotate, etc. Skincare was getting exhausting and now I just want to simplify!
I have it. I love it. My aging combo skin isn’t dehydrated underneath an oil slick anymore. My red places (chin, cheeks, forehead) are looking better. It’s been a great addition to my nightly routine (still doing vitamin C in the morning).
I would love to see Robert try some of the products you give a thumbs up to and have him test this whole “plays well with other products “ concept. I’d love to know how this would play under foundations.
Hi, James! As I was starting your video, I was in the middle of purchasing the Olay Super Serum and Olay Super Serum Night Repair., which are $30 each, not including the Cyber Monday discount (plus a free gift) Olay is running on their website right now. But as I listened to you talk about this and compared the ingredients, I decided to go with The Ordinary one instead, especially because it is on sale for just under $14 on their website for Cyber Monday (plus a free sample of one of their eye serums). However, I would have paid the $17 for it, considering I was willing to pay $30 for the Olay ones. To me, it means I may save a good bit by going with The Ordinary, if I end up liking it. Thanks for this video!
I love this serum! For context: I have oily skin that easily gets dehydrated in colder weather, when the air is dry. This helps my skin not feel tight, and therefore prevents my skin from overproducing more oil on top of my already oily skin. Pro tip: use this before getting on a flight! Before using this, my skin would be wrecked from the recycled air on hours-long flights -- but this resolved my issues of tightness and irritation!
It's so good to hear someone else say the same things I have faced when using the Ordinary products previously. They do not work well with other products, not just pilling but burning as well, they foam and I do not enjoy those pipettes either. Also, none of their products ever did anything much for my skin. I didn't go crazy with actives but I bought mostly their hydrating serums (like the buffet, peptides, marine hyaluronics ones) and I didn't even feel like they hydrated my skin or did anything at all. The buffet serum was the worst because it just sat on top of my skin and did not even sink in. This pink serum looks interesting should I give it another chance..hmm..I'm gonna have to wait and see.
Please do a video about hydrating products/ products to take into dry winter months! It’s so freezing in New York and my skin is doing things I’ve never seen
I love this serum. My neck gets so irritated from Tretinoin some how always managing to get on it, even though I don’t apply it to my neck. And my neck gets so irritated from sweaters or jewelry, and this serum really helps calm my neck a lot! This is the main reason I purchased the serum, and I’m impressed!
I've been using this one at night and the aloe in the morning then argireline on the fine lines area 😊 I have rosacea and dry skin and it has been amazing. It is more costly than other serums from the brand but with the right combo it does wonders.
I have started using tretinoin again and after the first use my skin was absolutely screaming! I was finally at Ulta today looking for something to help calm the barrier damage I’ve experienced so far and I remembered you posted this video but I never watched it. So, I watched it in full while at Ulta to make sure it was worth buying haha! Thanks so much for the review!
I haven't seen all the ads, but yours is the second video of skincare commentators and docs I follow who have talked about it. I like the Ordinary in general, the actives sound good or they've worked for me in the past, and they've got their slowvember sale going on, so I figured it's a good time to grab one to try. My skin gets more sensitive in winter so hopefully it helps.
I have severe psoriasis and generally very sensitive, dehydrated skin. Been using this product for a few days and I don't think my skin has ever felt so soft, at least not since I was a baby. I don't know how they've done it but I am honestly amazed at a product doing what it claims to do in such a short amount of time. I haven't had to use immunosuppressive ointment on my face since I started using this.
I was about to order this based on this review, but then I just kept thinking, I get this same result from my PY barrier cream and it's only $10 a jar and last me about 6 weeks using morning and night (under sunscreen in the am). I think if I didn't already have snail mucin toner and barrier cream that I love in combination for moist, soft skin that doesn't break out this might be a good choice for me. But I'm not going to try to fix what isn't broken at this point. I can't see using 2 barrier products, particularly since I'm maintaining a healthy skin barrier with tretinoin, glycolic acid and microneedling, but not trying to repair a damaged barrier. I appreciate this balanced review in helping me clarify my intentions.
I think that thIS “ PINK LOTION” ( Barrier Support Lotion ) from the Ordinary is worth every penny. I 10:44 have been using it a few times weeks now. And of late I have been getting lots of compliments on my st looking so good and glowing. So it takes a minute. But it works. And yes I use it with my other Ordinary skin care products as I have been using. And it seems to be compatible with everything that I have been using. Like you said “ No instant miracles “. But cumulative improvements. And NO IRRITATION whatsoever. Great protect. And I am 77 years old.
Thanks for the video! The price has stopped me from buying this, I can get amazing k beauty products for half the price but this video makes it a lot more tempting. Suggestion (not a criticism) - consider wearing no tinted sunscreen when you do these types of videos so we can see your skin. Entertaining as always!
I actually ordered this serum after seeing you use it in a video a few weeks ago…I was immediately intrigued by its Pepto Bismal pink color, and honestly any product that promises barrier repair is gonna come home with me lol It also reminds me a bit of Stratia’s Liquid Gold, but a little less viscous. Liquid Gold’s been my go-to product for barrier repair & general soothing for years now, and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes TO’s serum!
I had a little "accident" at the beginning of the month. I didn't know I was getting ill and because I was cold, I overused electrical heater at work. Of course it left my skin parched, itchy and every single cream or serum felt like rubbing jalapenos on my skin. And this serum worked amazing! I wouldn't say it repaired my skin barrier in 2 hours but definitely in 2 days of using it twice daily burning and inflammation was gone. I love it. But it's expensive and I don't need it anymore at this point so woludn't repurchase, but in an emergency I would come back to it.
I like a one and done type deal, might need to give this a try! The more simple and quick the better for me! 17$ is a steal compaired to the designer stuff ive tried
This serum was amazing! I’ve used it for 2 weeks or so and it’s just soooo lovely. Skin feels plump and smoother. During the day I do feel I look very shiny so prefer using it at night.
For me, this serum is a real game changer! I only bought the serum out of curiosity, as I thought it was an unnecessary product. But I was wrong. My skin has never looked so good. My redness has visibly diminished and my pigmentation spots have also lightened considerably. I can no longer be without this serum
I'm so glad you like this one James because I ordered it right before you posted this video! I needed to replenish my Glucoside cleanser and wanted to try this one to help aid my barrier in these dry winter months. The sale and the offer of a free multi-peptide eye serum with purchase and free shipping made the decision to try it much easier! I have normal-oily, oily in my t-zone, sensitive, acne-prone skin. My skin doesn't play well with super thick creams or most facial oils so I'm excited to try this one out. You said you can't use it with vitamin c...I'm wondering if that includes THD ascorbate as that's the vitamin c derivative/ester that I use every morning. If I can't use them together, I'll use this one at night for sure.
Well, I LOVE this serum too. In fact, I’m on my 3rd bottle and I buy it every few weeks because I use Tretinonin so my skin barrier needs it. I do feel an improvement in that itch that comes along with a compromised skin barrier as soon as I apply it. It is a little bit expensive in my opinion for 30ml I feel it should be between £11-£13
I've only been using this serum for a few days but I like it, so I'm relieved this is a positive review. I picked it up on a whim during the November sale.
I love The Ordinary. ❤ There's a dark fluid eye serum I use at night and the Argireline and Azelaic Acid Suspension I use twice a day. Game changers! I'm almost 50 and my skin has never looked better ❤
I happened to pick this up a couple months ago and have liked this serum so far. I will say that I use it in combination with other ordinary products and have issues with this serum pilling up and getting stuck in my hairline. I’m still experimenting with the stage as which I use it to see if its a particular other product that it doesn’t play well with but aside from that, I have really liked the overall feel and hydration it has provided this far. It is a bit of a bummer that it’s so much more expensive but considering the number of ingredients in it, I can understand the cost
I really love your reviews. I'm currently using the Glow Recipe avocado ceramide serum and my skin loves it (psoriasis sufferer) but the price point is high. I'm definitely interested in trying this instead, especially as it has some of my other fave ingredients included. One to add to the basket next time I need a top up I think.
I had a pretty intense allergic reaction to this. Not sure what component was the culprit. I’m an esthetician and I’m up and up on my ingredients so didn’t think anything of it. I’m bummed out because it does have solid basic helpful skin ingredients nothing extraordinary but good. Who knows could have been something else but that was the only thing different I did
I'm impressed by your dedication to make a high quality content. You actually took 3 months to try before giving out a full review. You really describe it well and I enjoyed the video, even though I have no interest in buying this product at all.
I bought it, haven’t tried it yet. I didn’t want to have a flare up over the Holidays. I can’t wait to see if it will help with the dehydrated feel I get with winter.
Hi everyone, i just bought this serum today and i applied it tonight. Now, after a few hours I feel like my skin is getting better and calming. I think I gonna love it. I will give you updates
I have learned in the different research and know about that B12 deficiency doesn’t make any problem for skin issue and B12 in that product just only makes the texture has pink color. But in any way I really want to try this and I’ve ordered 🤔🤔 because I’m in love with The ordinary multi-peptide + Ha and copper peptide
James, Thank you for making these helpful videos! I think a lot of people do their learning on skincare from you!!! One remark: Centella has been around in western products for decades. La Roche Posay Cicabalm B5. (Holy grail for a reason)
I’ve been seeing so many Ads for this serum and have been really intrigued probably because it’s pink and like you was saying it has more ingredients than the one ingredient we usually see from TO, and just the overall claims. So I’m so happy you’ve tried it and you’ve seen results bc I more than likely will try it now 💜🖤💜
I am so happy to hear your experience with this! I looked at it and I also have reactive rosacea and I thought all of the ingredients looked great for me but I passed on it because I have a routine that my skin is already used to. I will be in popping it in my cart now!
I just purchased…what step of my routine should I use this? Any products that I should not use it with?? Retinol specifically…can I use retinols with this??
I was very interested in this serum after seeing the ingredient list--I have rosacea too so this sounds promising. (I use actives, including tretinoin, so barrier repair is always top of mind for me when looking at swapping serums around for seasonal changes.) An LED mask was already on my wishlist so I'm definitely buying myself one after the new year.
I Just used my omnilux face, chest and neck led light mask last night and I thought when I looked in the mirror my face would look calm and glowing. instead my usual facial redness due to rosacea was so much worse. I know this can happen though and can go away after a few hours. Now I woke up and my facial redness is actually a lot better than it normally is. So just don’t be surprised when right after your redness looks a lot worse. I’m. Going to keep using it and see if the pros out weigh the cons. I would definitely recommend using it at night before bed so you’re not walking around all day with extreme redness.
@@costcochurros your welcome. So far everything is good and I am going to keep using my mask! I woke up today and after 1 use I feel my rosacea redness looked better. But again just know it will probably look way worse right after you use the mask! Good luck 😊
@@costcochurros I have to update you because I am amazed by my results already. Today I did my 3rd led light treatment. Yesterday was my 2nd treatment and already the results have been absolutely incredible! My facial flushing and broke capillaries are nearly gone already 😩 with only 2 sessions as of yesterday. I can not believe how effective this treatment has been so quickly. I contacted omnilux about the redness after my treatments and it turns out that is exactly what’s supposed to happen because it increases blood flow. So it’s 100% normal and to be expected. The redness calms after an hour or 2 for me. I really hope you go forward with the red light therapy mask it has been an huge game changer for my rosacea already. I also would like to mention that prior to this mask about a Year ago I did 2 BBL laser treatments on my face for rosacea and it did absolutely NOTHING, ZERO RESULTS, ZERO DIFFERENCE. In a matter of two led red light sessions my redness and broken capillaries are almost gone. I’m Amazed, even my husband has noticed how calm my skin is already. Also omnilux offers payment plans which is what I did to get my mask! So it is affordable
Looove all ur videos!! Can you maybe do a video on winter skincare? Its freezing rn and my skin has been going THROUGH it suddenly (just so dry and irritated etc)
Oooohhh, this one sounds nice. I can't be arsed carrying so many wee bottles with me when I go travelling. You can only fit so many in one of those wee plastic bags. I think it sounds like an OK price, you pay for their expertise in balancing the ingredients.
My skin is in a terrible shape. It was doing very well but I got a bad cold and the bad weather set in. My skin currently is compromised. My barrier is irritated. However I know that ceramides and thicker moisture are great but my skin is comedogenic sensitive. So I have to almost spot treat my compromised areas
Yeah really love this review - I’m definitely gonna try and I think it price is proportional and seems worth it rather get this then four of their other serums that don’t do anything or harm the skin
Hi James, when we spoke at the spaceNK launch in Cardiff you recommended it to me and I’ve been using it since about a week after that. Thank you so much for the advice! I love it! I too feel like I have less rosacea flare on my cheeks and don’t feel the need to use my Dr.Jart every day now! 😙🖤
Been using it for a few weeks to manage the weather changeover to winter. It’s a solid, okay. Will keep looking for something better, but wouldn’t completely rule out a repurchase.
I’m on my second bottle of the calming serum. I love it! It’s done so much for my skin. It has calmed the redness, the texture and helped with dark spots. I used it every night and day but now I’m just using it at night. I have sensitive dry skin.
I think it’s great that you used the product for 3 months before reviewing it. Very professional in my

Just an FYI: This serum is amazing for post shaving irritation and razor burn. Best thing I've ever used to keep my bikini line bump free.
It IS said that it helps with itching and irritation, so what you said confirmed it.

I remember their niacinamide serum applying soapy a lot years back, I definitely know what youre describing when you say the HA serum would foam up

But I think that this serum works the best if you have a very damaged skin barrier, if you don't or it's just slightly damaged, then maybe you won't see as drastic results so quickly as I did
Edit: 8 months later and my skin is clear!
I like the dropper bottles for the same reason! ♻ Some of their stores accept empties (from any brand) for recycling, too.
My goodness James, your skin is flawless!! 💜
Thank you so much for testing this for months before giving your review. I hate when people do reviews based on 1x trying the product. Youre amazing
I absolutely love this product! It cleared up my orbital eczema like nothing else I have ever used
I would love to see Robert try some of the products you give a thumbs up to and have him test this whole “plays well with other products “ concept. I’d love to know how this would play under foundations.
I've been using this serum for a few weeks and really enjoying it. I have dry skin and it seems to help comfort my skin.
If you want a super calming product from the ordinary their new natural moisturizing factors, plus phytoceramides is super calming and healing!
Wow! Olay charging $30 for serums. That’s a lot for drugstore prices.
I liked the serum with my tretinoin journey, especially noticed soothing when increasing tge%
This really sounds like it would be a good addition in cold climates. Up here in the far north of Scandinavia winter takes a great toll on the skin.
Tuning in at the end of my day for my daily dose of James' amazing content.
I love that your videos are always so aesthetically pleasing
bought this 2 months ago, i love it! my skin no longer sensitive to retinol
i’m going through retinisation, omw to get it
Now I want to get this and see if it'll help with my irritation and redness and whatnot from Differin
I actually ordered this serum after seeing you use it in a video a few weeks ago…I was immediately intrigued by its Pepto Bismal pink color, and honestly any product that promises barrier repair is gonna come home with me lol
It also reminds me a bit of Stratia’s Liquid Gold, but a little less viscous. Liquid Gold’s been my go-to product for barrier repair & general soothing for years now, and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes TO’s serum!
I had been holding off buying this serum until I saw a decent review of it, and then I found yours 🥰 I’ll give it a go!
Your skin looks so lovely, you look lovely! Thank you for another enlightening video💖
I love this serum. It works so well after the AHA / BHA peel ( yes I still use it , it does wonders for my mature skin)
I've been on the fence, but after your review I'm going to try it out!
Such an awesome, fair review.
The Ordinary is available in South Africa (most brands aren't) so I will definitely give this one a try.
So exited about meeting you at the airport today! 🥰 Hope you enjoyed your stay
It sounds lovely, anything that might help with my rosacea, I'm willing to try! ☺
Well, I LOVE this serum too. In fact, I’m on my 3rd bottle and I buy it every few weeks because I use Tretinonin so my skin barrier needs it. I do feel an improvement in that itch that comes along with a compromised skin barrier as soon as I apply it. It is a little bit expensive in my opinion for 30ml I feel it should be between £11-£13
I'm on tretinoin as well and my skin is struggling at the moment 😩 when do you apply this serum in your routine? Before? After? Morning? 😊
@@rebeckaericson9685I was just about to ask them the same question!
When do you apply it ?
I've only been using this serum for a few days but I like it, so I'm relieved this is a positive review. I picked it up on a whim during the November sale.
I’ve been waiting for your review of this product! The claims were so bold I just couldn’t help but doubt, I needed trusted reviews.
I love The Ordinary. ❤ There's a dark fluid eye serum I use at night and the Argireline and Azelaic Acid Suspension I use twice a day. Game changers! I'm almost 50 and my skin has never looked better ❤
I loooove the Argireline! Been using it for years
I have really enjoyed you reviews of The Ordinary! This one is rather interesting to me.
I’ve been loving it too. I apply my Naturium retinal, this serum and a moisturiser 3/4 times a week and my skin loves it.
I will say your skin looks amazing and these are my skin goals 🙏 I really hate my redness!
love that you used it for 3 months before reviewing. £17 is absolutely reasonable for a product like this
I really love your reviews. I'm currently using the Glow Recipe avocado ceramide serum and my skin loves it (psoriasis sufferer) but the price point is high. I'm definitely interested in trying this instead, especially as it has some of my other fave ingredients included. One to add to the basket next time I need a top up I think.
Pet-friendly note: If you have a dog, don't let them lick your face or hands (wherever you have applied it) after using this. It contains Xylitol.
oh my, that should be on the bottle, glad to know I won’t purchase it, my furbaby licks my face before going to bed and first thing in the morning.❤
I had a pretty intense allergic reaction to this. Not sure what component was the culprit. I’m an esthetician and I’m up and up on my ingredients so didn’t think anything of it. I’m bummed out because it does have solid basic helpful skin ingredients nothing extraordinary but good. Who knows could have been something else but that was the only thing different I did
Maybe it was concentration or combination of ingredient formula
My skin also got very spicy after using this. I’m also bummed because on paper this would have been ideal for me!
I have an ugly reaction to feverfew, which is considered a calming ingredient. It's in all of Aveenos products.
have you seen cassandra’s video on this? might be helpful
I know I can’t use this because of the Niacinamide. It always makes my skin burn.
Ok I'm sold! Definitely trying this when I place my next order 🎉
I'm impressed by your dedication to make a high quality content. You actually took 3 months to try before giving out a full review. You really describe it well and I enjoyed the video, even though I have no interest in buying this product at all.
Love this stuff, I picked it up at the beginning of the month and I'm hooked!
I bought it, haven’t tried it yet. I didn’t want to have a flare up over the Holidays. I can’t wait to see if it will help with the dehydrated feel I get with winter.
I would put this stuff on my entire body if it came in larger sizes, it's done wonders for my face and chest. I love it.
(Holy grail for a reason)
i think he meant that as
it's not a commonly used ingredient in western skincare!
Yes, probably! It’s true that it’s not widely known.
James’ content is super informative so didn’t mean to criticize.
The ordinary Natural moisturizing factors + phytoCeramides is fantastic for dry winter skin.
Wow now I really want to try it! Love your videos!
I just purchased…what step of my routine should I use this? Any products that I should not use it with?? Retinol specifically…can I use retinols with this??
Im certainly going to give it a go. I hate using multiple items. I want a cleanser, a serum and a moisturiser. I have way more than that though.
@@elettramia6380 Thanks for letting me know! I would have probably freaked out so this is much appreciated.
I was looking for a reliable review on this. Thanks james
Don't know why y'all saying the orice is high. If you buy each ingredient individually from the Ordinary, it would add up.
It seems to me like the ordinary's serums that have multiple ingredients do tend to cost a little more. For instance the buffet.
i’d love to know more of your opions on some more “all round” serums, i’ve been thinking of getting myself one!!
Been using it for a few weeks to manage the weather changeover to winter. It’s a solid, okay. Will keep looking for something better, but wouldn’t completely rule out a repurchase.
I love you James! I have learned so much from you and your brother!
I bought this and thought it wasn’t doing much, but finished using the bottle. After about a week of not having it i was like 👀👀👀👀
Thanks James for sharing!!! I will get 2 right now still black Friday offer on!!
I’m on my second bottle of the calming serum. I love it! It’s done so much for my skin. It has calmed the redness, the texture and helped with dark spots. I used it every night and day but now I’m just using it at night. I have sensitive dry skin.
I really like this serum since I use tretinion and other actives
