I was diagnosed with Acute Acid Reflux many years ago. Just as you described; trouble swallowing, a constant pressure on my upper chest, a f... nightmare. I had to sleep with 3 pillows propped up on my back bc I would wake up in middle of night feeling as I was choking on my own saliva. After having the exams you mentioned, going to a referred nutritionist, etc. (exhausting) It was directly relayed to high stress levels. If you'd be interested, Yoga and meditation helped and continues to help for my stress/anxiety. Taking more time for yourself, with your pups, anything that brings you serenity . Wishing you continued recovery. It takes some time, but you'll find yourself feeling betterment whilst practicing gentle self-care. 🤗

WOW all of this is what I deal with as well! The GERD, IBS, rosaecea, and stress! It is like you are describing the last several years of my life! Taking an anti-spasmodic has helped me so so much but watching what I eat, trying to consistently exercise, and prioritizing stress relief makes all of it much more manageable. I understand your struggle and how hard it is to explain to others!

I also have the Dermalux flex and it is everything!!
The blue, red and NIR are just wavelengths of light that penetrate to different depths in the skin and at those depths they affect different processes….so NIR is great bc it’s anti-inflammatory and also promotes collagen production (a two for one for you since rosacea is an inflammatory condition).
Your skin looks beautiful, love that it’s working for you!
Look at Sensate. It can help with stress. It looks dumb but it actually helps de-stress.
    ♥️

Hey darling, first thing to say is I love you and your videos. I have been suffering form IBS-C for many years - and I mean suffering, to the extent that it's greatly influenced and impacted my life. I SO appreciate that you brought this up, since there's generally such a stigma around GI issues. I've done so many tests over the course of my life for this. Most recently I got an anorectal manometry test that's supposed to inform what kind of physical therapy I should do to solve the issue - if you find that you've hit a wall with treating your IBS, please push for this test. It took 7 years for someone to refer me for it, and the nurse has told me so many patients have found relief in only a year or so of targeted physical therapy. Anyway, wishing you the best, and welcome to the "hot girls with tummy issues" club ♥

we're so used to thinking about our bodies in separate cateotries, but really I belive it's all liknked; poor gut health is linked to poor mental health and vice versa, also linked to skin health, ... I'm lad that you've found what works for you, as that is the most difficult step - we're so individual that even identical twins aren't "the same person"!

Thank you for doing this video! It's nice seeing someone talk about rosacea who actually lives with it and can speak to the effectiveness of the products they've tried.
I tried Mirvaso and, sadly, had bad rebound flushing beginning with the second time I used it and it only got worse with each application. Very hot flushing, much more intense redness, skin was very tender to the touch, and the flushing was happening during times that were very unusual for me. It took about 6 months for my skin to get back to normal (normal for me) after I stopped using it. I held onto it for about a year thinking I could keep it on hand for important events, but even after not using it for an extended period of time, my skin would start flushing shortly after application and would take several days to calm down. The first day I used it felt like a dream and I am still so disappointed it doesn't work for me.

My Omnilux redlight mask has been AMAZING for my Rosacea!!! I accidentally slacked off after about a year and believe me, it showed. It's definitely a commitment , but so worth it. A few years ago I was diagnosed with IBS. I had extreme stomach pain, especially after eating and diarrhoea. Turns out it was gluten! But I had to exclude it 100% since even the smallest amount aggravates it. I’ve not had any stomach problems for 2 years now. Btw I have a similar thing with the throat - 10-20mins after eating I get a nasal drip. But I haven’t checked it out yet since it’s not that much of a problem.

near infrared light is further past red light and it like 800+ nm in depth into the skin, its really good for stimulating deep collagen synthesis. also im pretty sure the colors and effects really are that simple. like blue light targets the acne causing bacteria and red light is more used for anti-aging from what ive read. ive always wanted to get one but they literally cost an arm and a leg to buy. 😭😭🤍🖤

    • @oceanbird.
      @oceanbird. Рік тому +2

For those who are curious, the different color lights are different wavelengths of light. Light moves in waves, kind of like waves in the ocean. This isn't a perfect scientific analogy, but to give you an idea to imagine. Like waves in the ocean, there are big waves and small waves. The different colors of light appear when the waves are at certain lengths. Near infrared wavelengths are between 750-1300 nanometers (nm). Red light is 630-750 nm. Blue light is 450-490 nm.

Hi there! Thanks for sharing your experience. Similar thing happened to me .... significant GERD developed and took PPIs (no longer than 4-6 months) then rosacea appeared (ocular and facial). I stopped using the PPIs (immediately when the dry eye started). I now use Pepcid occasionally (3 times per month or so). the Pepcid AC gives me a break from the strict dietary regimen I follow and it also gives me a breather when I visit with others and want to eat "off-diet" (higher fat) foods. Ocular rosacea is terrible. It's caused evaporative dry eye disease and meibomian gland dysfunction. I had not considered a link to gut flora, but I will give this some thought. I tried to supplement with probiotics initially, but discontinued after 1-2 doses because my mood was negatively impacted. I've learned (about a year or so later) that I was very vitamin D deficient. Supplementing vitamin D has created very good impact on sleep, energy levels, and general sense of well-being. Now with vitamin D on board, I'm going to return to the rosacea literature with some vigour. [PS. I have found some older articles on rosacea that describe the 'mediators' of flushing - they include tyramine, histamine, sulfites, nitrities, MSG, capsaicin, and aldehydes. In particular, fermented foods contain many of these compounds - so it was interesting to hear about people consuming fermented foods to help rosacea. I guess they are not affected by fermented foods. I noted that my GERD was impacted by fermented foods, which is interesting because GI literature does not highlight this.] Cheers.

My cheeks have always been red with people constantly asking me if I’m hot because I always look flushed but honestly I just thought it was normal to always have a flushed face and never questioned it! What you said about it being gone and missing the flush resonated so much with me 😂 the first time I put on full coverage foundation and my face was devoid of that color I put on intense blush to look like I had life again lolol I also have chronic inflammation of the colon and gut so it was interesting to learn about how your flare ups seemed to go together!

Visible light is a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum. Violet is at the short wavelength end and red is the longer wavelength. Infra red is the next length, and we experience it as heat radiation. So near infra red would be the threshold between red and infrared wavelengths.

James, I think you're absolutely onto something. I have IBD and when I'm in a flare my skin is also at its worst. I went a few years of having my IBD fluctuate up and down and my inflammation levels go through the roof and you could def tell this through how my skin was also looking. I'm not sure what it is either. Is it stress, general inflammation in the body, the gut, who honestly knows. All I know is that I've definitely noticed a positive correlation for when my IBD is flared up, and when my skin is as well. Just wanted to put this out there so you know you're not crazy haha, I feel you.

You are speaking my language! I too have IBS, rosacea which is mostly flushing but also some spider veins around my nose, and flushing with alcohol! I got a red and nir panel from Mito (Pro 750) several years ago. I do 10 min a day with both red and nir and think it makes a big difference. I say that because I quit for awhile and within a few weeks I was getting very intense flushing, hotness, and even small raised areas that I thought were hives. I restarted red light and now I'm back in control or at least it's very manageable. I have to be very careful what I use on my face, I also concentrate on barrier repair. I do use tretinoin but have to stay at .20 and I'm fine with that. I do use The Ordinary Caffeine & EGCG serum before the led therapy because there is a small study that shows an increased benefit when green tea is applied to the treatment area. That serum also provides a good bit of hydration for me. Thank you for this video...I was not aware that nir was better than the red light. I'll switch my panel to nir only and experiment. As a fellow human who doesn't deal all that well with stress, know that I am thinking of you and hoping us both a magic stress elimination wand! Until then, we'll both be doing the best we can! ❤

I don't have rosacea, but with any sudden changes in the skin, I've found it really helpful to speak to a Doctor first before going into, "OMG I must now buy all new skincare products' panic mode. A few months ago I started developing cholinergic urticaria due to hormone fluctuations, which basically means if I'm having a really bad day with hot flashes, or the weather is really warm, or I have my shower/bath water too hot, then my skin can turn bright, stinging, red and breaks out in hives. When it first started happening I was like, "Oh no, please don't tell me I've now become reactive to the products I bought specifically because I wasn't reactive to them", but a quick chat with my Doctor and I at least had an explanation that didn't have to involve me restocking my entire skincare cabinet (small as that is). Just personally my go to rule now on whether or not a product might be causing reactivity vs something else is, if the irritation etc occurs within the first 30 minutes or less of applying a product then it's more likely to be a reaction, but if it's happening at random times throughout the day (either hours after a product has been applied, or when no product has been applied) then it's more likely to be another cause and a check in with a Doctor is best advised. When I do get attacks of cholinergic urticaria I will tend to reach for a product I use that has Balm of Gilead in it. I've not been able to find any legitimate research on skin benefits of Balm of Gilead, but just from personal use/experience I do find it really soothes my skin and at least helps tone down some of the redness (although it doesn't make it go instantly go away completely).

I have lots of medical problems, and ive been on the GERD diet for over a year. I'm on the GERD diet because I have a hiatal hernia, and it hasn't gotten any better, it's actually gotten a lot worse, so I might just do the surgery for it. I had 2 surgeries last year, and 15 in general cuz of a different condition, so I didn't want to do the surgery, but I think I might just have to. 🤷‍♀️

I just recently got prescribed Protopic for my face & it’s been a game changer! I thought I had rosacea for decades but recently was diagnosed that it was eczema (which makes sense I’ve also had body eczema my whole life). It’s an immunosuppressant cream instead of the usual steroid and works cumulatively- so after a month of every night I can only apply 2 times a week to maintain clear results. It’s been wonderful to finally get ahold of the painful and dry/tight/red patches on my face!

I get prescribed 15% azelaic acid gel which I use 3x per week and use the geek and gorgeous retinal 3x per week. So far I can see a minor improvement but I have been told to wait 6 months at least. I noticed the azelaic acid helped the most. I'm hoping my rosacea will get better soon. My routine isn't too complicated. I've tried to use fewer products lately. I noticed when I used products with too much niacinamide I would have flushes so I've had to change my cleansers. Fingers crossed it'll be better in a couple of months.

    Hey from Germany =)
I am also suffering from rosacea and always been struggling with gut health. Since maybe three years or so I find myself coughing all the time while not feeling or being sick. Now my mother was diagnosed with HIT and I realized she had some similar symptoms, like always a runny nose, skin issues and diarrhea. So I looked further into HIT and this makes so much sense to me. Histamin plays a big role in inflammatory processes and is linked to food but also to stress. By changing my diet and removing foods that contain lots of histamine or can trigger it, I am feeling so much better! Still struggling with my skin but it got better too.
Maybe this can help you too.

I get red in the cheeks, sometimes for no reason, don't know if it's anything or just my skin being sensitive. Anyway, I have Crohn's and just from experience I can say that it is true that skin, the digestive system, and stress are all linked together. Whenever I'm stressed my symptoms get worse, which in turn makes me break out, sometimes a lot. The order can differ, but in the end I'm stuck with pain in my face and anywhere in my DS that my Crohn's decides to mess with. So, all in all I would say that eating well (and not eating trigger foods), sleeping well (meds, meditation, supliments, a lot of things can help), and taking time to de-stress (like exercising, hobbies, anything you like) are all very important for all of your organs including the skin (and brain!).

Throughout my childhood my cheeks would get red and hot a lot... as I grew older it pretty much entirely went away.
Just over the last year or so though it's come back. I've had other skin problems in this time, a small flare up of psoriasis which I've never had before, hives, hair loss and a bunch of other problems that I attributed to stress..... it only occurred to me recently that the flushing could be rosacea thanks to James' experiences. I might go and get it properly checked out if it gets any worse.
Unfortunately rosacea or not... I think it's safe to add it to my pile of stress symptoms.... moral of the story.... don't get stressed kids :D

I invested in a Celluma for my rosacea and acne. I noticed my skin looked glowy when I was using it but wasn’t sure if it was just all my IPL treatments.
I did it consistently for a few months and didn’t have a single breakout. Figured it was just my routine and starting spironolactone. Well, I recently fell into a depression pit and stopped using it for a month. My skin has been ruddier and broke out a bit. I’m a believer. I sit in it for 30m 3-5x a week for 30m and listen to a podcast. Some days I’ve done it 2x a day - 30m in the afternoon (I WFH) and 20m at night.
I’m actually about to jump under my light right now. :) I love love love it. I’m also a big believer in it. It is fucking expensive as fuck but it’s better than every little at home mask I’ve ever bought.
In regards to IPL, my struggle with IPL is it requires I stop actives for 1-2 weeks before and then treat the irritation for a few days after. I think for the amount of work and prep, it’s only marginally worth.

So I'm a chemist and finishing my PhD on organic and biological chemistry with focus on microbiology, and there's definitely science behind what you're saying. I also suffer from rosacea and had a terrible flare up a couple of months ago after moving countries, with the manifestation of pustules, which I had never had before. That made me dig in a lot more on rosacea literature and scientific studies and I was very surprised to find many studies on the relation of gut health and gut microbiota and rosacea, specially the inflammatory kind with pustules that I was experiencing. Ever since then I started taking probiotics, eating better, handling my stress levels and also aligning that with a gentle skincare routine with use of prescribed metronidazole for the pustules and this crisis is almost over now, and I'm certain it's due to a combination of all of those factors.

A strange tip but here goes: for anyone who is struggling with gut bacterial health. Even if you eat a perfect diet, your oral hygiene must be on point! The bad bacteria’s in our mouths go down with the food when we chew, and end up in our guts where they wreak havoc. (Those are the bacteria’s that actually makes 💩 smell awful - they cause nasty halitosis too) Flossing properly and making sure your teeth are in mint condition can save your guts!

Niod modulating glucosides really helps with reducing the flushing and irritation. It soothes quickly, and over time it works with other barrier friendly products to make my skin stronger and less likely to flush. Can't live without it!
Also, yes, digestive issues and stress reduction are it! The good thing about healthily managing stress is it helps the rest of your body and your health too. • @oceanbird.
      @oceanbird. Рік тому +3

@@susanb3989 I have no idea what works about it, I'm not a cosmetic chemist. It's some proprietary blend of "glucosides" that niod came up with. I've never seen those same ingredients in another skincare product, and nothing else works as well as it does. I just read the description on niod's website and thought "hey I'll give it a try, I've tried a hundred other calming serums maybe I'll try one more." I will say I tried another "glucosides" product, from the inkey list I think, and it didn't do anything. Whatever is in that one is not the same as the niod one. I consider the niod modulating glucosides to be a product innovation, I've never encountered or heard of anything else like it.
Yes I use it every day. I've been using it for over a year and my skin is feeling way stronger and less reactive now so I skip it sometimes.
What James says about diet and stress is the root cause of chronic rosacea (in my opinion), but niod modulating glucosides helps in the short term.

I’ve had rosacea for a long time, but it didn’t become an issue until I turned 30 and then it got worse and worse. My biggest concerns were the tiny broken vessels, flushing and overall irritation. I tried a lot of things and really focused on barrier repair, but IPL has been the only effective treatment. It took 4 sessions (with a dermatologist) before I saw a real difference, but the difference was amazing. Most of my blood vessels were gone or very faded. There’s no perfect option, but I was more than happy to go out without foundation or makeup. I also flushed way less often and didn’t have the constant irritation or aching cheeks at the end of the day.
IPL won’t get rid of everything and I’ll have to keep going once or twice a year (new vessels always popping up), but for me it was sooo worth it. It’s expensive but most places will let you do a partial face treatment. It’s cheaper and focuses on the area you have vessels. I’d highly recommend getting it through a dermatologist and not one of the medical spas.
Lastly, I’ll add I’m on the ivermectin cream. It’s less useful for my type of rosacea, but helps keep the bumps away. Good luck everyone! Rosacea is not fun and can be really uncomfortable and embarrassing, but you’re gorgeous red-faced or not.
