That's the spirit never give up, you can always keep it in the workshop for screws and pens and stuff if it’s really bad! Very nice piece at the end though and worth a few dollars too.
Nice, love spalted maple. Another product to try is Total Boat penetrating epoxy, just brush it on. Can be thinned with acetone. Only con is it needs longer to cure than CA
Have successfully used a water based sanding sealer painted on and saturating, then sand. The sawdust will fill in and smooth the punkyness. It can take multiple applications, but the finish is close to unnoticeable.
Just lying around outside?! Hahahaha!! That is a dream piece of maple! I have 2 whole trees of maple that have been outside 2 years. I know they did not spalt or even get cool grain just sitting there! Hahahaha!! Beautiful!! Thank you for sharing!! Cheers!!
Glad to see you where able to stabilize the wood, the spalted wood looks great.

Thanks mate appreciate your support!
Nice work, love the spalted finish
Thanks, I’m still amazed at the results.
Beautiful piece John. I liked how you used the 5 minute epoxy to fill the cracks. Will definitely have to give that a try.
Stay well.
Cheers, glad you liked it!

Yes I’ve used it before mainly in my epoxy bowls and works very well. Yes it slows the process with a 24 hr wait time but a very good product. Thanks
