Followed the instructions and put a 07 sti cluster in my 07 wrx in less than 20 mins. Most outstanding job ever thanks again for uploading this video !
Legend! Only video that helped me get this done. Different coloured wires on my UK car but apart from that it’s was so easy. Top guide, thanks! 👍 do you know if it’s possible to wire the C.DIFF to a c.diff switch/wheel? Obviously just to control the lights on the cluster?
Rich Tully I’m not fully sure as I haven’t looking into this in a while, I know my dimmer switch when turned will dim or brighten the Diff light. I also had a guy tell me there’s a way to just make your own dim switch controls you have to insert it on one of the harness wires, but I wasn’t too worried about it considering just getting the cluster to work alone was a great accomplishment. To this day 7/26/2019, I still have the cluster running perfect with no issues, maybe down the road I’ll mess with it and add a dimmer switch and make a video on that, I may even go as far as changing the LEDs on the board to another color (probably blue) like I did to my scion TC, but that wouldn’t be for a while probably.
My question is, I put this cluster from an 07 STi to a n/a 2006 Impreza, and I get a very loud continuous buzzing sound. What could it be the reason for that?
See and read the full description for all the info, but here is what I believe you’re looking for… - Cut the C9 wire located on the right connector (i11). On the STi, this wire is connected to the buzzer and is normally ground. On the WRX, this wire is +12V and is part of the dimmer circuit. failure to cut this wire will result in the STi cluster making a loud buzzing noise. Hope this helps!
@@VinnieT yeah thanks for the info, I was watching this on a tv and I didn’t know how to open the description box, it wasn’t until I got on my phone that I read it, but thanks!

Hi! Your video its so good! I have a question, I did a swap (cluster) I put a JDM V9 STI 260 KM/H in my STI JDM 2003 (my cluster is the same all but only whit 180 km/h... now all is work, but the light abs is off and the light of brake hand is in all moment on! Can you help me? Excuse me for my English 😁
Hey man where were you able to find the wiring diagrams for the clusters. I have an 04 wrx and I put an 05 sit cluster in everything works but most of the lights on the cluster stay on all the time and I am trying to fix that issue. Any tips?
Nicholas Krawchuk not exactly sure I only have done this swap once, somewhere in my video I do remember mentioning the wires that I had to switch around to get certain light to go off
No each Cluster has its own mileage. I bought the new cluster that had a few hundred more miles on it then what my cars OEM Cluster had, and then drove my car until I was at the same mileage, then swapped the cluster so I know exactly how many miles my car really has.
Petko Krushev the only thing you need to do to the A connector (connector on the far left) is shave the tabs down so it slides in perfectly to the new STI cluster, the pins you can leave on that one the same).
i installed a 2004 sti cluster on to a 2003 wrx but im getting this beeping nosie that wouldnt go off and on the gas gauge theres a lock that wouldnt turn off
I man, I have a Impreza Wrx Version 9 Cluster...do you think is the same? I have the same number of connector in i11 What u thinkin about? Thank's for the help :)
Kinda late but i put a jdm(km/h) v9 cluster (not sure from what year) in my 05 RS, all i had to do is plug all of the connectors in upsidedown but now i think my gas gauge is reading lower than it should. Know how to fix this? RPMs and speed seem accurate, just the gas gauge.
Wxlfson what you have to do is fine a wiring diagram for your car and for the V9 cluster and compare the two and find out which wire controls the gas gauge and then match them up inside of the connector.
So my cars been sitting a while and I got a sti cluster but my cluster won’t turn on and then my car wouldn’t start Battery is fully charged Car just cranks and doesn’t turn over Headlights won’t work Cluster lights won’t work I have a sti cluster without the dccd stuff on the cluster but I put my OEM cluster back in and still doesn’t work car doesn’t start Brake light works When I turn on my lights only my rear turns on not the front or anything why?!
If you have an 05-07 sti cluster in an 02-04 wrx, the electrical polarity of the ABS light is switched (meaning when ABS is functional the light is on and when ABS has an issue the light goes off, opposite of what it should be). So an easy solution is to purchase a small harness that reverses the polarity, Aaron’s Subie Electronics sells this. Hope that helps!
Hey Vinnie, I’ve got a 2001 WRX and I’ve installed a V8 ‘05 STI dccd cluster and everything works fine besides the ‘rear diff temp’ light that stays on, but the only light that doesn’t turn on is the STI lettering under the RPM gauge is. Have you encountered or heard anyone who has experienced the same issue?
Hey Chaz, the DCCD light sometimes can be turned off by turning the dash dimmer control up or down (mine is on the right side turn signal switch). When I turn the switch it will either dim the DCCD or brighten it. As far as the STI lettering goes, I'm not sure but you're wiring may be different since the car is older. I have not heard of people having that issue before. Hope this helps!
I got an Sti cluster for my 2004 subaru wrx but the mileage on the Sti cluster has 15k more miles than my original cluster, I was just wondering if anyone knew a legal way to change the cluster's miles.
Ive read online that you can send them out to a place and a guy will just tab into the board using a computer and can manually change it / reprogram it but I believe if I remember correctly you have to get some legal documents signed and shit I think.
im not sure i have not looked into the RS wiring, but from what ive been seeing, many people have swapped them over, depends on what year cluster your swapping it with.
Yes I did, what I did was I found a cluster with similar miles but had to have a few more then mine did. Then I drove the car until I hit the same miles the new cluster had. Then performed the swap.
VinnieT8 Ok. I am currently looking at an 06 wrx. the owner did an sti cluster swap put he didn’t pick one with the right miles so the cluster says it has 175k miles. He said he kept the old cluster as proof that it only has 100k. Is this a possible situation.
@@davis954 Indeed this is usually the case for most people. It is hard to find a cluster with similar or close to mileage. You can also check the car fax, which should say a history of mileages with dates.
Can you do a video for the version 8 sti cluster? I didnt realize the differences between them and I just got my sti pro drive cluster the one with the blue face and i realized i have a version 8 cuz i didnt have to modify the connector. It just plugged and play and reading the pdf you attached looks like I got the version 8. Or if its possible for you to guide me through it. I followed your whole video and at the end I still had the lights on so that's when I read the pdf and realized I didnt have the version 9.
@@VinnieT ABS only. And no lighting at all. But first ima out all the wires back into their original place since I moved them after following your video. But i found a guide that says i only need to cut 1 wire and that's it. Unless i care about the ambient temp display which i dont.
@@MrWong26 Yeah I would keep all the wires how they originally where, and instead of cutting the wire just pull it out of the connector to test and see if it works.
Please let us know how it goes! I've seen people swap 02 clusters before, not exactly sure if an 07 cluster going into an 02 is exactly the same process though. Good luck!
Hi i've fit a 2006 jdm wrx speedo to my 2005 wrx all works fine the only thing is missing it has an impreza logo should light up blue in the middle of the gauges which doesnt. Could you help me with this pls?
Yes the only thing I could think of is, If its an LED display, then the LED burnt out, which you could unsolder and resolder a new one in, otherwise if its a bulb, just replace the bulb. and you said it was blue? I havent seen any of them with blue yet.
VinnieT8 its all good now it has a light on but was to sunny outside lol Yes it is blue ish white impreza logo In the middle look lovely i can post a pic on here. Its came from japan by the way
+Andre Gonzales i want to say yes, but i would probably get an 04 or 05 sti cluster because the wiring will be alot closer. i got an 06 sti cluster for my 06 wrx.
VinnieT8 I have a 2004 rs / putting on the 2004 sti guage , I checked and the orange wire was completely missing, the original owner did tell me he tried it but the clock turned off , I’m just gonna take it to my neighbor who works on stuff like that lol
Ethan Core the wiring is similar but not exactly the same, I linked a wiring diagram that calls out the Year of the car and the wiring that goes with it.
First of all, super THANK YOU to Vinnie!!! I just installed a 06 sti on my 02 wrx “manual/turbo”. Followed Vinnie’s steps and shaved the two plastic strips on the left connector in order for it to slide in. Relocated the orange and white wire. Then relocated the second wire but that eliminated something else, so I backed out of that one since obviously it was not the right move. Everything works except the ABS light is always on, the dimmer does not work, and the temp reads around 32 F which is fine cause I don’t have this on my 02 wrx cluster to begin with. I want to start by fixing the ABS light, so I found the wiring diagram for the ABS for the 02 WRX, and now I need to look for the same diagram for 06 sti so I know what to rewire to switch. I have limited time, so I will post my findings when I get to it.
+Bradley Veljanovski yes the temp is spot on, for both Engine temp and the outdoor temp, (wasnt sure exactly which one your speaking of but they both work great)
+Bradley Veljanovski out side temp does not work after doing the swap . i did my sti cluster swap back in 08 and it doesnt read the outside temp anymore after the sti cluster swap
i forgot to mention that subarus that came with auto hvac will be the only cars that the OAT will work with a straight cluster swap . subarus with out auto hvac like my wrx tr will need to be modified . i just recently found this out from a member on nasioc who made me a wire harness and voltage regulator to make it finally work . read up on it here forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2704637 . im pretty vinnie you had auto climate controls right?
I bought a Speedometer that had a little bit more miles on it then mine did. Then I drove my car until it matched the miles of the new speedometer. Swapped the New Speedometer into the car when they were at the exact same mileage.
I did it on my 02 bugeye . But when the ignition is on the dials wont turn all the way up and then down as in Sti's .. anyone can point what did i do wrong ?
RIP 10452 has the gauge cluster been opened at all before? And have the gauges ever been messed with or touched? I know I read before that the little motors attached to the gauge needles are very sensitive, so if the needles are touched they can cause issues.
We’ll I can say that if you bought the car used, somebody may have been in their before you, and who knows what that could mean. Their are other diagrams out there online, maybe yours could be different.
Yes but I would check the wire diagrams linked below to make sure it’s an exact swap, plus then you’ll know exactly what wires control everything so if anything isn’t working you’ll know where to look!
MannyFresh1x I believe it's on the left hand turn signal switch there's a part of it that you can twist, it's supposed to be the Dim control adjust for your gauge cluster but instead once this new gauge cluster is installed, it controls the Dccd light, so just turn the dimmer all the way down and it goes out, or if u like to see the dccd light then then turn the switch on. (For wrx's such as my own, we don't have that sensor in our differentials I believe as where STIs do) that's why this happens.
not really sure how to do it , but i found out that if you turn your cluster brightness switch down, it wont dim your cluster but it will dim the dccd light haha, its on the left stick where you turn your head lights on , further down the stick thing theres a way to lower the cluster lights, when i turn that down it dims/ turns off the light.
Hey quick question I got the same 06 wrx and bought a 06 sti cluster but the thing is the Gas Gauge connection doesn't match up did you run into any trouble with this? Thanks in advance
Watch the video fully through, you'll see that you have to swap some wires around. Also if you google 06 wrx gauge cluster swap with 06 sti, there are charts showing you exactly what wires to swap around. CHECK OUT THE DESCRIPTION ON THE VIDEO >>>>> I have linked the website showing which wires to exactly swap.
+Sebastian Dammer I actually googled like a ton of different ones but this one seemed to help me out the most. www.sentinelit.com.au/misc/2005to2007_WRX_STi_cluster_swap.pdf
depending on which gauge cluster and what car it came from, im sure there is a conversion on one of the forums about it, somebody has to of had done it before.

I man, I have a Impreza Wrx Version 9 Cluster...do you think is the same? I have the same number of connector in i11
What u thinkin about?
Thank's for the help :)
Luigi Lacava yes I believe the version 8 and 9 clusters are the same wiring
@@VinnieT Thank's Vinnie✌
Luigi Lacava you got it man 🤙🏽
Do you think an 04 sti cluster fits in my 06 subaru wrx wagon???
??
It will forsure fit, but I’m not sure if the wiring is the same.
Wxlfson what you have to do is fine a wiring diagram for your car and for the V9 cluster and compare the two and find out which wire controls the gas gauge and then match them up inside of the connector.
hey man would this work the same for an 07sti cluster going into an 07 wrx? are there differences between each year?
Yeah it should work exactly like my car worked from 06 sti to 06 wrx.
So my cars been sitting a while and I got a sti cluster but my cluster won’t turn on and then my car wouldn’t start
Battery is fully charged
Car just cranks and doesn’t turn over
Headlights won’t work
Cluster lights won’t work
I have a sti cluster without the dccd stuff on the cluster but I put my OEM cluster back in and still doesn’t work car doesn’t start
Brake light works
When I turn on my lights only my rear turns on not the front or anything why?!
I would check all of your fuses first. Then go from there.
@@VinnieT I gave up on my bugeye lol I’m letting it rot
Everything worked fine however, my abs light stays on. Any ideas?
Does it sweep when you turn the key? Or do you need a wiring harness for the cluster for it to sweep?!?
+Abraham Mohamed yes it sweeps and operates totally normal.
Do you happen to know if I can install one in my 05 2.5 rs?
did this swap(05 sti cluster to 04 wrx)...everything checks out, but no sweep at start (opening ceremony) any ideas for this?
im not really sure exactly why that would be happening.
Have the same problem and the abs light is on all the time
I have a 2006 RS, are the wires the same? Is it the same procedure?
im not sure i have not looked into the RS wiring, but from what ive been seeing, many people have swapped them over, depends on what year cluster your swapping it with.
When you put in the new cluster did you have the exact same miles
@@VinnieT Thanks so much for your help I really appreciate it. Especially you replying to video 4 years old. once again thx :)
Ryan Davis of course! The reason I post these is to help the Subaru community! Thanks for the support!
I followed your whole video and at the end I still had the lights on so that's when I read the pdf and realized I didnt have the version 9.
alejandro wong which lights do you still have on on your cluster?
@@VinnieT ABS only. And no lighting at all. But first ima out all the wires back into their original place since I moved them after following your video. But i found a guide that says i only need to cut 1 wire and that's it. Unless i care about the ambient temp display which i dont.
@@VinnieT this is the guide I found.
www.scoobymods.com/showthread.php/sti-version-8-instrument-cluster-3309.html
@@MrWong26 Yeah I would keep all the wires how they originally where, and instead of cutting the wire just pull it out of the connector to test and see if it works.
@@VinnieT yeah thanks I'll update you once I get a chance to work on it and see if it works.
I hope I can do this to my 2002 wrx with a 2007 cluster
Please let us know how it goes! I've seen people swap 02 clusters before, not exactly sure if an 07 cluster going into an 02 is exactly the same process though. Good luck!
@@VinnieT I will! It’ll be delivered in the next week and a few days. Got it for a steal too 215$ for a Usdm 160mph sti
@@ts-vu3dd Great find! Awesome man hope it all works out!
VinnieT8 its all good now it has a light on but was to sunny outside lol
Yes it is blue ish white impreza logo
In the middle look lovely i can post a pic on here. Its came from japan by the way
VinnieT8 thanks for getting back to me
yeah for sure man!
I have 03 STI Blobeye (without dccd). v7 cluster (green one). Is it compatible with v9? Pretty much same as yours?
Honestly im not sure but google search it because I know many people out their have probs done exactly what your talking about
Hello I cut the c9 but I still buzzer
Your going to have to find the correct wiring diagram for your gauge cluster and trace out the wires to see what wire is the buzzer if its not C9.
So you think this same method would work for my bugeye?
+Andre Gonzales i want to say yes, but i would probably get an 04 or 05 sti cluster because the wiring will be alot closer. i got an 06 sti cluster for my 06 wrx.
I connected mine everything was good but my clock went out ? Where my boost gauge was at its off
you may have pushed a pin out of place when plugging it in, check and make sure all of your pins on both sides are fully inserted into the connectors.
VinnieT8 I have a 2004 rs / putting on the 2004 sti guage , I checked and the orange wire was completely missing, the original owner did tell me he tried it but the clock turned off , I’m just gonna take it to my neighbor who works on stuff like that lol
@@alonzo5.040 Alright well let us on UA-cam know what the issue was if you end up getting it fixed. Good luck with it man!
VinnieT8 I will bro forsure, I’m also YouTubing it as I learn lol this weekend I will most likely fix the problem
Hey, is it the same wiring for the 04 05 wrx's?
Ethan Core the wiring is similar but not exactly the same, I linked a wiring diagram that calls out the Year of the car and the wiring that goes with it.
I have a 06 Subaru wrx tr and when I turn the power on it just beeps none stop, what do you think it is?
I forget what it was, google search that I believe alot of people have had that issue, its fixable I know that
I have that same issue did you ever get it to work Properly
Can you put a 2004 wrx sti instrument cluster in a 2004 2.5rs?
little ricey, I got cool a cool aftermarket one that cost less
hey man i have a 2002 wrx can i put a 06 cluster in that or not? Just curious. Sweet vid bro
wrx or sti cluster?
the wrx and sti clusters are slightly different that's why I ask.
sti
I would say research it online and see if anyone else has done it before you decide to just buy it and try it.
I have limited time, so I will post my findings when I get to it.
hai there...i have install the sti meter but the dim light do not function...can u help me bro....
I dont think you can get it to work unless you make your own custom dimmer switch
How did you get A plug to fit in the v9 sti cluster ?
+andyfucken o im not sure what question your asking me
Does outside temp still work accurately, and does the DCCD light stay on?
+Bradley Veljanovski yes the temp is spot on, for both Engine temp and the outdoor temp, (wasnt sure exactly which one your speaking of but they both work great)
Yeah was asking about the outdoor temp as I've heard it doesnt work, cheers for that mate
+Bradley Veljanovski out side temp does not work after doing the swap . i did my sti cluster swap back in 08 and it doesnt read the outside temp anymore after the sti cluster swap
this is an 06 wrx with an 06 sti cluster. its different, mine works perfect.
i forgot to mention that subarus that came with auto hvac will be the only cars that the OAT will work with a straight cluster swap . subarus with out auto hvac like my wrx tr will need to be modified . i just recently found this out from a member on nasioc who made me a wire harness and voltage regulator to make it finally work . read up on it here forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2704637 . im pretty vinnie you had auto climate controls right?
Hello,
How did you turned the brake light off? thanks
im not sure exactly what your asking
VinnieT8 the handbrake light. it stays on all the time
I think thats the one you ground
How do you matchup the mileage
I bought a Speedometer that had a little bit more miles on it then mine did. Then I drove my car until it matched the miles of the new speedometer. Swapped the New Speedometer into the car when they were at the exact same mileage.
@@VinnieT that’s smart
@@ironslimy7899 Yeah its the only way I could think to do it, without having to send it out to somebody to try and reprogram it.
@@VinnieT no dude never been opened before . I'm thinking that it is something with wires i did wrong Or what !
RIP 10452 I posted links in the description that have the wiring diagrams that I could find for my year car, it may different from the 02
Okay so my gas gauge and temperature gauge are not working now everything else is fine but that I need help
I shaved the plastic already btw
@@ArsonAqua So what did you do?
Had to shave the plastic piece more and re wire two wires.
Can this be done on a Impreza 2.5rs
Weird flex But okay yeah I believe so, but the wiring may differ depending on the YMM of your Subaru.
I went to move my b28 to b16 and found b16 on my harness has a pink wire in it
Same would like to know why its different
Great video man, does needle sweep work ??
Uk300prodrive yeah needle sweet works as normal, with key on engine off and on full start.
Perfect thanks bro. Gonna get a set for my bugeye prodrive then.
Could i do this to my G3 RS 2007 ? MY08
Honestly im not sure, it took alot of research to figure out just how to do this one. I literally spent probably about a week searching around.
I’m missing that red and blue wire🥲 I have no idea Whyy
We’ll I can say that if you bought the car used, somebody may have been in their before you, and who knows what that could mean. Their are other diagrams out there online, maybe yours could be different.
Is this process the same on 05 wrx
Yes but I would check the wire diagrams linked below to make sure it’s an exact swap, plus then you’ll know exactly what wires control everything so if anything isn’t working you’ll know where to look!
@@VinnieT thanks does the buzzer still work
@@evanmulrooney5586 I believe mine does, I don't hit my rev limiter very often though lol
@@VinnieT just fitted mine didn’t actually have to change anything or shave the plug other than the rear diff light wire 👍👍👍
@@evanmulrooney5586 Awesome job man, Glad to hear this!
Is your dccd light on?
+Tony Batalla yeah
how do u get rid of dccd light?
So how do you turn off the dccd light?
MannyFresh1x I believe it's on the left hand turn signal switch there's a part of it that you can twist, it's supposed to be the Dim control adjust for your gauge cluster but instead once this new gauge cluster is installed, it controls the Dccd light, so just turn the dimmer all the way down and it goes out, or if u like to see the dccd light then then turn the switch on. (For wrx's such as my own, we don't have that sensor in our differentials I believe as where STIs do) that's why this happens.
Do you know how to disable the dccd light? If not dont matter haah
not really sure how to do it , but i found out that if you turn your cluster brightness switch down, it wont dim your cluster but it will dim the dccd light haha, its on the left stick where you turn your head lights on , further down the stick thing theres a way to lower the cluster lights, when i turn that down it dims/ turns off the light.
CHECK OUT THE DESCRIPTION ON THE VIDEO >>>>> I have linked the website showing which wires to exactly swap.
yo where is the link for the wiring diagram? thanks!
