I Put a Keyboard on My E-Scooter to Go Farther

  • Hello, again...
There aren't many videos on modifying and disassembling Pure Electric Advance scooters, so I thought this video might be of use for those that are interested in knowing about one.
This time, I decided to lay my destructive hands on my Pure Electric Advance Flex E-scooter. The intention was to create a modification that allows me to activate electrical braking only by itself, to extend the operating range of the scooter. This involves placing a keyboard on the scooter that operates the electric brake.
I figure that this will work on other scooters from the Pure Electric Advance line (Advance, Advance plus), as they share most of their parts, and possibly other scooters too (many applications utilise Hall-effect sensors).

my idea would be to just put a another break lever on the scooter and have one for regen and one for the brake

Yeah, that was my initial idea, and it would've been really cool!
The only problem I had, which was briefly mentioned in the video, is that the handle bars fold. So, making a second lever would possibly require moving wires from the left handle bar to the right one, which would mean passing wires through the folding parts. It's achievable, sure, but this method was the easiest, fastest way.
      Thanks for the comment! :)

You do know that when you press the brake just slightly so the contact closes but no brake force is applied, you would have the same effect?

The problem is, there is no "contact" that closes. It is a Hall effect senosr, meaning the deeper you press the lever, the more intense the braking. However, the lever has a physical wire that always depresses the mechanical brake as well, so electrical braking is always accompanied by friction. If you could barely press the lever to activate the electrical brake only, it wouldn't be reliable at all at bringing you to a stop.
With the keyboard, the scooter comes to near dead stop whenever I press the button.
The maximum electrical braking force achievable through the lever is still quite low, because the Hall effect sensor saturates at like 2V, but the keyboard can push that "braking signal" up to 3.3V.
