- Five Deltic locomotives are seen together in one convoy passing through Stalybridge, North Manchester on Tuesday 11th October 2011.
The five locos had been at Shildon for a Deltic 50th Anniversary event and were then moving on to Bury and the East Lancashire Railway for the North Western's Deltic Anniversary event at the home of 55022 and D9016. Running as the 0Z46 55022 "Royal Scots Grey" leads the procession with fellow ELR compatriot D9016 "Gordon Highlander" bringing up the rear.
The locos listed in formation order,
55022 "Royal Scots Grey"
55002 "The Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry"
55019 "Royal Highland Fusilier"
D9009 "Alycidon"
D9016 "Gordon Highlander"
A massive thank you to everyone that has been involved in keeping these five fantastic machines alive and to those who made both the Shildon and East Lancashire Railway events possible. Thanks also to Network Rail for allowing the cavalcade to run under Deltic power & ensuring a "shed free" shot :)
As always, best enjoyed in 1080 with the sound up. - Авто та транспорт
When they were built, the Deltics were the most powerful single unit diesel locomotive in the world. Not bad for a little British loco!
Little they are not and they had two
In locomotive terminology he is correct: single unit= single loco. It was in its day the most powerful
It really is impressive. American railroads couldn’t even come close until the Fairbanks-Morse Train Master
If we're going on the term single unit= single loco, then we can cheat and use the permanently coupled ABBA sets from EMD which made 6000 horsepower, or AB sets which made 3000 horsepower. These sets were all split by the deltic's time, though.
@@pootispiker2866 technically those were multiple unit sets, so I don’t think they count
Blimey - the only diesel that makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck when I hear that roar! Thanks for posting.
Thank you :)
I love the Deltics. All in nice, tidy condition. Beautiful.
Thanks, they really are something :)
When the UK was proud of our engineering and led the world in quality,
Like 5 puppies together, Amazing, I am proud to be British when i see how we preserve our Heritage.
Brings a tear to the eye, traveled a few miles behind these on the ECML. The station announcer makes me laugh saying 'stand clear of the platform' - HEY BRO if one of these was coming through on full song with a 12 car rake it would SUCK THE PLATFORM EMPTY!!!! GO DELTIC. My old Dad had the honour of working for English Electric and helped build DELTIC Number 1, he did a lot of the wiring! Thank for sharing
Absolutely fantastic pan shot of 5 magnificent Deltics in very good condition! Thanks for sharing this brilliant piece of railway history Phil. Great quality too, well done mate Ken
Superb! They really should bring back station announcers, with local accents, who are actually based at the station. I could sit and listen to the one at Manchester Victoria in the 80s, all day long!
Thanks :) Yes I agree, I'm not a fan of the automated announcements which half the time don't make sense or completely mispronounce the stations.
@@Phil6219 I agree.
Cracking shot there, thats a very rare sight to see, lucky to see one, never mind five! Thanks.
Thank you, yeah I'd planned this shot for a couple of weeks and a lot of things went wrong on the day so I was really lucky to get there just in time :)
@@Phil6219 glad u managed to get it! Cheers
@@Phil6219 9 years later, you are still replying! Awesome
@@fieldmarshal7298 Thanks, I'm still here :)
Love the "Bing Bong" announcement for passengers at platform 2,saying that this train is not scheduled to stop & is an approaching fast train. The fact that the convoy had already passed the platform seems to have escaped whoever made the announcement!
Things of beauty - and to see five all at the same time..like Christmas and birthday come together.
There are such awesome engines & they are truly a sigh to behold 🇬🇧👏👍
Thanks for being in a great spot to video the passage of these five great Deltic locomotives. Super video and a nice slow parade that allowed us to take a good look at them. Cheers!! :D
magnificent powerfull workhorses .. my fav deisels .. frieght and passenger workhorses in the past .. lovely to see them, great upload, thx.
I can't believe I missed this I only live half a mile away from Stalybridge Station and I was gutted when a mate told me a convoy of deltics passed through! I'm still gutted now!!! Nice video of a rainy day in the pennines!!!😎
An amazing sight for sure, beautiful machines. While I thank those that have enabled these locos to breathe new life, I cannot help but look back with sadness at the other 17 stablemates that fell to the cutting torch, Doncaster Works' Deltic scrapline was such a shocking vision to me.... I will never forget it!
Only 16, 6 are preserved one is just not in this video which was 55015, Tulyar so atleast that’s one less
I remember the sight of loads of Peaks outside the steelworks in Sheffield when I passed on the M1, waiting to be recycled 🥺 Didn't realise they had the scrapping facility to do that there.
What a Cracking Video and the safety announcement always makes me chuckle, Great Work, Well Done!
What a sight!
Now that's some power on the rails.
The way it was, stupendous to see em go!
Thanks :)
Wow ! What great memories I have from my youth .. East coast main line York to London to spot and photograph each one of the then running Deltics from the mid 70's . Great Video
Why do 6 ppl dislike this?
It’s a Railway enthusiasts video.
Surely EVERY railway enthusiast likes this. If you’re one of the 6 then you’re clearly not a Railway enthusiast, which is fair enough. Go and watch something else then
Awesome sight. Wish I’d have been their.
Standard UA-cam trolls, some people go through the site on any video just to click thumbs down, sad people. However there might be Sulzer types that hate anything English Electric? personally I think it's the trolls. 5 of the remaining 6 of the fleet of 22 nice to see all that power.
I downvoted for 2 reasons:
1. Because of this comment
2. It really doesn't matter since like/dislike have the same affect.
@@cleanerben9636 If like and dislike both do the same thing, then what's the point in disliking? It seems like a completely useless, meaningless feature. You might as well just not click either and move on.
@@User-3O3 pretty much. If you don't like something, don't engage.
Whoever didn't like this video are sad and pathetic iq zero's and ain't rail enthusiasts they're probably bog unit spotters who stand at man Victoria logging class 150's who never seen what locos we used to get on the transpennine routes from Manchester to york/Scarborough/Liverpool as they will have never seen a class 40/45/47/55 working these routes or will never have had them for haulage! The anoraks!!!😎
love how the announcer, based at another station, is late with the announcement haha!
Did he say that it was a "fast train" ????
he did say fast train i was expecting japanese bullet to come rattling through lol
Those announcements are always ridiculous. I once heard one telling us not to board the train stopping at platform whatever-number-it-was because it was "not in normal passenger service". Coal train rolls in and stops for a crew change...
Probably automated then
We preserved the past.... to give the modern generation a taste of what REAL British engineering had to offer...
Thanks mate, I set off with hours to spare and made it with only minutes to go. I think I would have cried if I had missed them.
WOW you wait ages for 1 and five show up !!!!! That surely has to be most of the preserved fleet? Cheers for sharing. Bollocks to the 22 that disliked this !!!!
Hehe yeah, unless we count the prototype which was in the National Rail Museum there is only one preserved one missing, Tulyar which was (and still is) undergoing a complete rebuild & restoration. Hehe thanks for that, put a smile on my face :)
What an awesome sight, thanks for the chance to see it,great video.
And the next train(s) disappearing from platform 1 will be the 11:15, very rare, probably never see again, convoy of class 55 Deltics. Classic!
wow that sight is awsome! :D saw 22 and 16 pass through New Mills last week en route to shildon and have footage of it.
trainspotting during the 70`s, great times, went everywhere on sunday`s with merrygorounds from west london, great video thanks for the upload.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Absolutely amazing video thanks.
Great upload, thanks Phil.
Awesome! Thanks for posting!
Amazing sight, great vid clip, well done, thanks for sharing!
Superb catch & a great video Phil. Looking forward to seeing these beasts at the weekend :D
Cheers mate, much appreciated
Yea, that would be the icing on the cake! Ken
The Mighty Deltic(s)! Best video on UA-cam.
Thank you :)
monumental ! thank for sharing
Mega! Five locos - five star video! Liked and added to favourites :-)
Stunning pieces of kit.
@kenbrowne1947 Thank you, it was a pleasure to film & I hope it happens again someday, preferably with Tulyar too...
Amazing. I must get to Bury this year.
One word - Awesome
Brill!! Thanks for sharing that.
Just superb!
I like both, the thing with the green livery is it does a good job of disguising such a bulky locomotive. I just love how they are all colour coordinated for their journey...
Thank you.
What a catch! Amazing!
Hello fellrunning, my father worked on the same testbeds - maybe they knew each other? Little boys listening to their dads' fantasizing about dragon beasts! Now, all these years later, it's our turn to be swayed by those same magnificent 'animals'.
Stunning!
Everyone loves a Deltic!! Lovely work, thank you.
Thank you :)
Not everyone. I don't
Awesome - Great Catch 👍🏻
Thank you :)
Thank You
fantastic sight would love to see a deltic running again
Thanks mate
What a sight❤
What a sight. My bathroom extractor fan sounds like a Deltic lol
Wish I had that
Wow! Amazing 👍🇬🇧
Thank you! 👍
Wow, I would have loved to have been there to see it. A railway enthusiasts dream.
I can't believe it's been 8 years :o
Very nice vid Phil 2x horn blast as well well done driver...thanks Steve..
Indeed, cheers mate.
awesome vid that mate,i would have loved to have seen that!!
How did I miss this I live 20ft from the line?
Thanks for the upload!!!
fantastic catch.......
Cheers Paul, glad you liked it :)
@nickdeaves Cheers mate, glad you liked it.
@stestepney Cheers mate, my tripod paid for itself in preventing me jumping with the camera at the tone :D
Great sight and a great video!
Excellent video very nice
Thanks, this was one of my favourites :)
Very nice video, my local station!
Thanks mate, it was the first time I had been there in well over 10 years.
Great catch
thanks :)
a sight never to be seen again
Well for the time being then hopefully with Tulyar too :)
Great catch Britains finest diesel locomotive ever built
They missed an opportunity there! They could have put a single brakevan on the end, and put a sign on it saying "World's heaviest brakevan"
Cheers mate, I got to go in the cab of 002 but a git of a mate of mine has had a crack at driving 22 though not on the mainline.
Great :D Thanks
Brilliant footage though & I've been in the cabs of both 019 & 022 : )
Fantastic ..saw all the deltics back in 69... Train spotting at Selby..
Cool, I've seen all of the surviving ones at least :)
great video
Absolutely beautiful
Thank you :)
Wow! Superb.
What a super catch !
Absolutely hellfire, liked and faved and subbed :)
HUGE BEASTS!!!
Lovely video
What an amazing sight!! You wait ages to photograph a Deltic and then......!
It sounds as if all their engines were running, were they? At least they woke the station announcer up!
Super catch 👍🏻😀
Cheers mate
Fantastic
@johno4521 Sadly 55022 is the only Deltic registered to run on the mainline so there was only one loco running, though running both engines :)
Though the appeal to return D9016 to the mainline has just officially begun :D
Wow what a rare catch!
Beautifull convoy of locomotives.
Regards from Chile.
A serious amount of horsepower, they did run all 5 of them on the East Lancashire Railway and the noise was immense.
A lovely sight, be even better when "Tulyar" can join the convoy.
Terrific :-)
@steve71p Cheers mate, looking forward to going myself - just looked at the timetable, Deltics running every 20 minutes through Bury :D
Awesome ,5 of them ❤️
Yep, not something we see everyday :)
Cheers mate
Superb video. Were you expecting them, or was it a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious bonus ! lol :)
@drigin1234 Cheers mate, glad you like it.
Fantastic.!
Thanks Tim
A dream come true!!
