I'm going to be showing you guys how to do a spinning hook kick. I'm going to first demonstrate. I'm going to stay in a fighting stance like this. I'm going to spin back and do a hook kick. Like that. Make sure you bring it back 360. One more time. Like that.
So step by step, I do this thing called a back turn. One. Fold your legs just like a back kick. Now make sure when you kick out this time you don't kick straight out. I like to kind of kick out in an angle, one, and throw a right hook and bring it back. So one more time, slowly. One, two, three. One more time. One, fold your legs in. It's important to tuck in. Kick out and hook. And bring it back.
Now I'm going to practice with my partner. He's going to be holding the target. Again, I like to practice maybe in a face level. If you guys are beginners, maybe you can start out a little lower. That's fine. So from here, I like to do a fake shot. So I'm going to be in fighting stance. I'm going to first demonstrate. One more time. And that's how you do a spinning hook kick.

This spinn kick is perfectly done with speed, technic, power and great control and this guy have probably done this kick both in training, sparring and competition matches sins he was a child. When you do a technic as great as this you dont really need to look where you kick. You just feel it.Just look at a guitarist that have played a song for a long time.He can play the song on his back just as good cause he knows what he are doing in a natural way.Its the same with real martial artists and there technics. This guy is the real deal. Its not hard to see that.

my thought is if the opponent dodged the kick however, he would be left open facing the other way, when if he looked where he kicked, he could of followed up with another kick, or block. thats just my two cents on it though.

I think it's like when you watch someone teach chemistry or cooking, the basics of safety are simply implied, if someone is looking up how to do a specific move they probably know they shouldn't be doing it without looking

I was a trainer for the American Chung Do Kwon Association a LONG time ago...as in 26 years and 70 lbs ago. I am still registered as a 3rd Dan and I still have my black gi and black belt with my name and rank on it. After all these years I can still kick above my head, and I still remember my weapons forms and most of my kicks, but this is one that I haven't been able to do in a long time...along with the jump spin hook kick. Thank you!

Lots of comments about him not looking. Initially I said the same thing. But then I really thought about it. After you have trained for so many years. You know where your kick is gonna land. Spinning kicks are so fast (specifically Reverse Hook kick and Reverse Side kick). You really don't have time to look. You kick where you know your target was a fraction of a second ago. That's the best you can do. Anyone who has trained a lot knows this.

you cant look at your target for the hook kick. You have to rely on your own accuracy and timing. If you turn your head to look at the target your kick's power will be significantly reduced

He is doing instructional training, I'm pretty sure he would be more careful in combat. Also, it's more about the technique than the result while training. His technique is very smooth but everyone has different methods based on what they feel is important.

I believe the spinning hook kick should start identically to the spinning back kick in the the firstep is to turn then plant the supporting foot .. this allows for your body to rotate. you notice he fidgets around with his stabalizing leg after turning partially but before executing the kick? that is why.

Typically you use the heel to strike with a spinning hook kick. You can use both but most people use the heel not ball of the foot.
