  • Video clip from down about 70 feet while spearfishing on the wreck of the Tampa. 3 large beefy sharks roll in on us most likely having followed a blood trail to us. 70 feet on full tanks of Nitrox meant more bottom time and I had begun to wonder if we’d been on the wreck shooting fish a bit too long.
At first you’ll see they are sweeping the sand outside the wreck while I’m looking over the railing to keep an eye on them. I’m watching while the other two guys shoot fish. At one point you’ll see one sweep up the railing and by me from a few feet away. Next we clip the fish stringers to the anchor which is set at the bow of the wreck.
Sharks then key in on us and wait for a chance to jump us with a stringer of free fish dinners. We did stop for a three minute safety stop at about 14 feet where Forrest had to punch one the sharks that charged him, I missed that photo op. Once we pulled up the anchor we saw only one large fish was missing. Was a good escape.
As far as the sharks go, it’s a rush when they come in and make for an interesting story. Even better when we get the fish to the boat. Feels like I managed to rob them.
