Fun fact:
While the little "movies" between levels would be called cutscenes today, the phrase itself didn't appear until 1987 with the game Maniac Mansion. Ron Gilbert, the creator of the game coined the term to describe scenes that could *cut* away from the action at any time as opposed to playing before or after levels. Hence the term cutscene.

Did you know that the original name for Pac-Man was Puck-Man? You'd think it was because he looks like a hockey puck but it actually comes from the Japanese phrase 'Paku-Paku,' which means to flap one's mouth open and closed. I thought in Japan, the pac-man ghosts had names that clued you into how they moved, and helped you know how to play.
yeah they do aha it was why the game was actually harder for English speaking people as it meant they believed the ghosts movements to be random but yeah just ignore the game grumps on that one you are correct.

Lord Caden pink tries to corner. Red does follow (he's called shadow after all). Orange is pokey, I guess because he likes to do his own thing and is a pokey little bitch. And then blue is bashful and will really only go after you if the opportunity is right in front of him. You see, Arin and dan didn't utilize the "t valves" which are pretty essential. Best thing to do is to learn the mechanics of the ghosts, the safe spots (t valves), danger zones (bottom row and top row and in front of ghost hut sometimes), and learn the stages. The three stages are "pursuit", "scatter" and "oh shit, pacman gonna eat my ass" and they all have their respective corners in scatter and have their chase mechanics in pursuit. A surprisingly in depth game...

Arin holds a vast amount of knowledge about so much random stuff, to the point where it holds the idea, but it's not 100% accurate. Where I'm okay with it, because I myself cant remember everything 100% perfectly. Still try though.
So this is Namco Museum Megamix? Seems like a pretty good compilation game! I keep seeing this for really cheap at Gamestop, so maybe I should pick it up.

The "T" above the monster box is a safe-zone. Monsters / Ghosts don't follow you up the T (they will come down) so you can circle around that area and not get hit if you're in a jam (plus you don't have to worry if there's a monster below because it won't come up on you). The T right above (your) spawn also has a safe-spot. On the right side of the T, they won't see you if they're not in pursuit - it's an old-school pause location if you want to take a bathroom break.
Bringing up an old joke. Last week, I was at a Red Lobster and had to go to the bath room. They only had two urinals and one was taken so I used the stall. So I close the door and I see this blue rectangle of a sticker with big letters that says "Cake Farts" No context, just that in the stall of a red lobster bathroom.

Just gonna let ya know that, if you play Pacman World 2, I will love you guys forever
Pac-Man is such an incredible game for it's era. To have actually given the ghosts their own personalities was something that I don't think any other game of that day and age even did. Personalities that gave you a fighting chance. (Which, I swear, is partially why Jr. Pac-Man failed so badly. I swear those ghosts were all Shadows.) And, so many little tricks to learn, too. Like how eating pellets slowed you down. the two sideways S routes above the ghost home held some kind of taboo to the ghosts upon entering the wrong way. (Which they only forgot about when frightened past the point of death.) How to utilize the tunnel. When to risk traversing the lower corners. (Such traps that sprung closed on you two a few times in this video, alone.) And, hearing the thumb bit, I bet you guys are using... (gasp) ...D-Pads! Something about the Pac's demands a joystick. And, a good one, at that. Many games are just fine with D-Pads and bad joys. But, you can't deny a good joystick to rule over Pac's movements with. Inferior control means inferior gaming experience.
Oh...and Ms. Pac-Man? She didn't have superior speed. It's just that someone created a kind of Game Genie chip that upped her pace by quite a lot. And, that chip was rather popular with arcade owners. I, personally, find it kind of hard to play Ms. Pac-Man for 30 minutes a quarter if it isn't modded.

Arin's strategy to eat all of the ghosts as soon as possible isn't very good. The best strategy is to save the power pellets, and once you're in a tough spot, eat the pellet but don't eat the ghosts because they'll go back to normal, use the time that they run away from you to get more dots and get in a good spot away from the ghosts.
Mappy is my favorite arcade game.
I think this collection might lack Ms. Pac-Man because it was made by Bally Midway without permission from Namco back in the day. They were getting impatient waiting for Namco to release the next game in the series so they bought the rights to a third-party Pac-Man enhancement kit called Crazy Otto and changed all the sprites in it to create Ms. Pac-Man. Then Namco sued for royalties. Apparently, they never acknowledge the game anywhere even when it's actually included in one of the collection discs.
Actually, they did have names, not just blue ghost, red ghost, etc. They actually have names based off of their behavior, for example, the red ghost is chaser because he's programmed to make a beeline towards pacman.

My uncle was great at this game when he was little. He used to have the ghosts' patterns memorized so he could get through like 50 levels. But he had to play it on an arcade box at like a store or laundromat, so he always had to quit and leave at some point.

You know, I hate to be that guy. I just feel like game grumps aren't playing good games anymore. I don't have anything against this game,or episode. But the past few weeks it's been just the same kind of games really. So I don't bother watching the video and I just simply listen to it in the background. It's just been kinda boring lately, that's all I'm saying. I know I can just ''leave if I don't like it since it's their channel and they're giving us content for free''. I know one less subscriber won't make shit difference to them. But their content has been simply ''meh''. Huh. They don't know the ghosts' patterns. They're actually very simple: they consider only the four tiles around them and they attempt to take what they consider the "shortest path" to their goal.
Red's goal is Pacman.
Pink's goal is 4 tiles in front of Pacman.
Blue's goal is the tile on the far side of Pacman from Red, nearly equidistant.
Orange's goal is two tiles in front of Pacman when he's at least 8 tiles away, or his home corner (the lower-left) when Pacman is closer.
The ghosts' goals change at various timings in the level between their normal goals and their home corners (this is why they reverse direction).
There are also four tiles on the board where the ghosts will never choose to go up.
Correct me if I missed something.

I was also obsessed with Pac-man at one point, particularly his 3d platformers. One time in 3rd grade I did a survey during free time on everyone's favorite pac-man game (currently, my favorite is Championship edition dx) I also had 2 different Pac-man plushies and a plush for each of the original 4 ghosts.

Ah, me and my dad used to always play this game called "Pac-Man Adventures in Time". It was AWESOME. We stayed up till like 3 in the morning straight up co-oping the story mode. Good times....
