Natalie, I’m with you girl! I turned thirty in 2020 and I’m “starting over” in many ways. All the negative self talk is real! But you’re not alone and it’s ok! Life is made up of seasons and this is just another season that you (and I am as well) are beginning. It’s not backward or forward, it’s just new. Best of luck.
When I turned 30, I took a full year sabbatical to travel around the world with my partner, now wife. We went through the same process as you, selling, donating and giving up most of our possessions. I was daunting then, but liberating afterwards. That year was pivotal in my life. It made me more open to experiences, more resilient, more adaptive and more tolerant to uncertainty. Since returning, I took a better job than I had before, live in a better place than before and improved my life and wellbeing having realised during that nomadic year what I truly value in life. Our circumstances are different, but I am convinced that this move, however stressful it may feel now, will ultimately make you better, Matt and Natalie. Best wishes onto the adventure that awaits you!
I can relate. Moving for whatever reason/s is always stressful! Good luck and I wish you both continued success and much happiness wherever you go. Stay well.
Matt, we both quit our jobs and sold most of our stuff back in early 2019 and went to Australia for one year. BEST. DECISION. EVER. We've had the time of our lives and want to keep doing it (waiting for all this mess to go away). It is scary, but it's easier than you think. You are going to love the experience. Funny note, you are one of those who made us take the decision to have less, and now we are the ones telling you everything is going to be alright :D Keep up the excellent work, and hope you have a wonderful birthday.
WE’RE EXCITED TO HAVE YOU!! I hope the stress passes soon, that you have a toasty (but not too toasty because wow it’s been WARM) Aussie Christmas. If you and Nat ever hit up the Gold Coast for a beachy weekend away hit me up! Sending love ❤️
Honestly, moving to Australia during this pandemic is probably one of the best decision of your life. I will eventually go back home with two suitcases at most. It helps being a minimalist :)
We are moving back to the US next week after a year and a half in Brazil. We are my husband, my adult son with a disability and I. When we came we sold everything except for 6 suitcases we brought with us. Now we are returning with only 2 carry-ons, 3 backpacks and my son's dog. That is going to be all our possessions for some time and we are excited about it. It's good to see we are not the only crazy people!

My husband and I are starting to explore minimalism. There’s been times that I’ve thought about how much I’d love to just walk out the door, get in the car and leave. We are struggling with giving up things, like even books I haven’t read yet, the only important things I’d definitely want to take, are our family pictures, and a weeks worth of cloths, I’m not sure I want to keep my smart phone! Our dogs and our kids, how freeing this could be! I’m excited to follow you and wish you much joy.
Two years ago my husband and I sold almost everything to travel the world in our mid-40s. It definitely gives a different perspective on life, but I still struggle at times with what Natalie talked about around the 4 minute mark. We’ve had 6 months of down time in Malaysia now, and we are ready to get back on the road. Here’s to safe and fun adventures ahead, guys! 🥂
New decisions bring in new experiences. This is *your* new journey. Not many people make these decisions. I am excited for your both. Wishing you the very best.
Love how open and frank you & Nat are in verbalizing and compromising your wants/needs! Above all of the groundbreaking minimalist/being productive stuff I truly admire seeing how you both grow in your relationship 💚
I did the same, and travel in a van for a year!! Its was the best time of my life. I realized how much stuff can make you anxious. I was peaceful because I know I had everything I needed.I hope you will have a wonderful time. :)
WOW! You guys are moving to Sydney!!! I also sold everything before moving here, it was hectic, I wanted to have everything I own fit in a small hatchback and... I accomplished that for almost two years! I live in Cronulla now! I hope to be able to see you guys someday and say hi!
Me and my husband have done this 3 times in the last 7 years and it’s always so refreshing. Its stressful at first but then you just feel free almost like the weight of all the things you had around you is lifted off your shoulders. I would recommend it to everyone!
My reaction to you not really having a home address was "how do you get stuff sent to you? What if you buy something online?" My habits aren't really minimalist, I guess...
I'm so happy for you guys!!! Myself and my husband been far away from home for 2 years now and as much we want to buy comfort things as many there are things from the past and it doesn't help to look forward, every moving out/in is terrifying just because of amount of all the stuff. Anyways, my congratulations for moving on and wish you an amazing reunion with your friends and family. Also, very happy for your documentary going on Netflix!! I'm sure it will inspire dosens of people to think about their lives and focus on the current personality rathr than past or future. Looking forward to see!

I can't describe how proud I am of you three (Matt, Joshua & Ryan), I've been a long time follower and you guys always find a way to add value. The documentary is now added to my list and I can't wait to gobble it up. So exciting to see all your hard work paying off! Also good luck with the move, hope it all goes smoothly. Take care Matt & Natalie, we'll still be here once you've settled in your new home!
Matt, check out the book Feeling Great by David Burns. My mom used to struggle with anxiety, now she doesn't. She used to be afraid of spiders now, now she lets him crawl all over her hands. If you're dealing with an anxiety, it may help you get through this stressful time. Just wanted to add value to you.
Congratulations on moving to Australia. I love the Country and would live there if I could. You are moving forward in your life. Spending more time with your family and friends is really importation and it's a move forward to value that. Good luck and God Bless!
Natalie’s point about being 30 and the pressure of feeling like you should be moving forward in your life hit home for me ! Just turned 27 and I’m getting rid of all of mine and my wifes stuff and we’re moving too. Whether it’s family or friends somehow we felt pressure that we should be making different decisions but we decided to do what’s right for out lives, not there’s. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Do you not have children?
Hope you had a blast while you were here ❤️.
New decisions bring in new experiences. This is *your* new journey. Not many people make these decisions. I am excited for your both. Wishing you the very best.
Wow even Matt's leaving California 😲
Dems have gotten too comfortable. Ruining the state
@@Quincyq15 Meanwhile those Republican states are killing it. In... Covid numbers.
@@psyssi already know they are setting new records, doing big things
@@psyssi haha poor people getting sick. If only the chance to die was more then 1%. I bet you don’t know since you don’t look at the Cdc though. Gg
@@psyssi that totally justifies what's happening in cali
This got me so hyped. I love the energy and full commitment to a "crazy" idea. This is really great, big props! Excited to see your adventure!
Love how open and frank you & Nat are in verbalizing and compromising your wants/needs! Above all of the groundbreaking minimalist/being productive stuff I truly admire seeing how you both grow in your relationship
💚
Before you move out: remake the shot with the "one bowl" from your early hit video
Yes! That was my first video I ever watched of Matt's. It was a good introduction 👍
There is no Tomorrow. Start now! 🙏
I literally yelled when he said ‘Sydney’. Greeting from Melbourne, Australia ;)
Same!
Me and my husband have done this 3 times in the last 7 years and it’s always so refreshing. Its stressful at first but then you just feel free almost like the weight of all the things you had around you is lifted off your shoulders. I would recommend it to everyone!
I agree 100%!
Nat: Hey, I really miss my family, when can we go visit them? 🥺
Matt: Are you willing to become a minimalist? 👀
My reaction to you not really having a home address was "how do you get stuff sent to you? What if you buy something online?"
My habits aren't really minimalist, I guess...
OMG! When you said you have some “very, very, very big news to announce,” I thought you were about to say you were ending this channel. 😳 I couldn’t be happier to be so wrong!! Congratulations on your new documentary! I can’t wait to watch it. I wish you both amazing peace, joy, and fulfillment as you embark on this next level of greatness. I look forward to watching everything unfold!!
Thank you :)
Who are Joshua and Ryan?
@@0bilgi The Minimalists, Matt's working with them on the documentary, and have worked with them in the past on The Minimalists' Documentary!

Matt, check out the book Feeling Great by David Burns. My mom used to struggle with anxiety, now she doesn't. She used to be afraid of spiders now, now she lets him crawl all over her hands. If you're dealing with an anxiety, it may help you get through this stressful time. Just wanted to add value to you.
the urge to just detach myself from everything and go backpacking is real rn
Congratulations on moving to Australia. I love the Country and would live there if I could. You are moving forward in your life. Spending more time with your family and friends is really importation and it's a move forward to value that. Good luck and God Bless!
Natalie’s point about being 30 and the pressure of feeling like you should be moving forward in your life hit home for me ! Just turned 27 and I’m getting rid of all of mine and my wifes stuff and we’re moving too. Whether it’s family or friends somehow we felt pressure that we should be making different decisions but we decided to do what’s right for out lives, not there’s. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
There is some lucky soul out there that had the luxury of buying one of Matt D"Avella's household items and probably doesn't even know it
Emm. Okay? He is just a dude

My Family made a significant (yet smaller move) from Adelaide to the Gold Coast. The stress was real but since we got up here we have never looked back!!! Good Luck to the both of you, Maybe we will see you kicking around soon!
If you had mentioned that these are your own stuffs, I'm pretty sure The Rock would have bought them for at least ten times the price!
Matt: ”We’re moving to Sydney”
Me: Oh so is Nat pregnant?
Haha not yet. We're going to wait after our twice delayed wedding. So probs not for a couple years :)
