Missing John Lowe. Won a world title in each of the first three decades.
You're 100% correct I have John Lowe at Number six just below Gary Anderson but the more I think about it there is a case to swap them around.
Definitely John Lowe is my personal favourite of time. He was so cool and never add a ego .💯🇬🇧🇯🇲👍
All .lol😂🇬🇧🇯🇲👍
John Lowe shud be in the top 5. Taylor is the undisputed number 1.
If you have not read it, have a look at John Lowes Autobiography, i enjoyed it, a good insight to the times
I agree with a lot of the comments, no top 10 is complete without John Lowe. His rivalry with Bristow paved the way for the rivalry’s we see today. First televised 9 darter, world champion in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. His longevity is right up there with the best of them. A true ambassador of the sport who should enter this list ahead of the likes of Wade, Anderson, Priestley, Bob Anderson and Lewis!
Spot on with Lowe,I have already commented that I have him just below Gary Anderson at number six but think I maybe got it wrong and it should be the other way around.
Couldn't agree more mate. Leaving John Lowe off is an absolute disgrace
Totaly agree, and i know it doesnt come into the equation, but i wud also say that john lowe is arguably the most popular darts player of all time.
its a insult to not have him in the top 10, lol
@@SuperChalkster He 100% should be in the top ten if not top 5.
Jocky Wilson great player but also think his impact on the game was huge,i think he was a name and a face the the non dart fan and ordinary man and woman in the street knew at the time.
What about Ted Hankey? He touched many a young dart fan.
😲
Then he should be in jail🤔🤭
Too soon
🙈😱
He is!
I think John Lowe has to be in he won 3 world titles over circa 15 years and was runner up five times. There is good longevity and had a significant Impact on the game and pretty sure he was the first televised nine darter too. Also Glen said about James Wade the same action and I would say the same for John Lowe.
Martin Adams in the top 10🙄 No disrespect to The Sun but thats a joke righ🤔 Not even top 20.
For impact and service to darts, I'd put him in at no10 and RvB at number 2....Lowe ahead of Lewis for me
@@richwood1867 I think this is generally considered to be about "the best 10 players" rather than impact or service. If it was about longevity then Paul Lim would be top 5.
I agree with your top 5 guys, MVG definitely number 2. However Jocky Wilson should be in the top 10. In the early days of televised darts, of Bristow, John Lowe etc., Jocky was the player most people wanted to watch. An awesome player.
I'm glad you both had John Part on your list 🇨🇦
Had to really
@@Edgartvdarts two of my top players are a couple of blokes called Glen Durrant and Matthew Edgar
John Lowe has to be in top ten, great longevity and all round nice bloke.👍
💯🇯🇲🇬🇧👍
And also the inventor and revolutionary figure behind dartboard sanitiser, let's not forget
Criminal you didn't put John Lowe in there.. brilliant player
If Taylor was coming through these days young he be pushing the average over 120 a lot .Immense player
Glen Durrant is above Martin Adams, for me simply because Glen has played in the PDC and mixed it with the very best. Dennis Priestley definitely
Adams did play PDC events. Matchplay semi final and Grand Prix Quarter Final in early 2000s. Reached a final of a crossover event in 2006 losing to Taylor too.
yeah but he bottled switching over to farm the part timers@@liamreilly3873
Come over. We saw Adams vs Durant plenty in head to head and Adams took it. Maybe Durant after he hit his stride walks him but by that point adams was past it.
I think the PDC had the better players but tons of the BDO guys have done great coming over, multiple world champions. I get Taylor over adams because we rarely saw the head to head and when we did taylor had him. Neither is top 10 imo but we literally have the evidence that adams was better than glen.

1)Taylor... 2)Van Gerwen... 3)Bristow... 4)Van Barneveld... 5)G Anderson.... 6)Lowe.... 7)Part... 8)Priestley... 9)Wright....10) Lewis
Players in the 80s early 90s put darts on the map
Late 90as till 2010 set the standards
Then from then till now the game has unbelievable standard and prize money
James Wade remains arguably the best player never to have won the world championship but, for me, wouldn’t make the Top 10 as he has never won it.
Had Martin Adams tested himself in the PDC, then he may well have made the cut, however you can only judge a player on his record and during the era that he was winning Lakeside and the Masters, the elite players were elsewhere, so I agree that he is not a Top 10. To feature on that list, he would need to have demonstrated that he could beat the very best without choking.
I am surprised that whether Barney merits inclusion in the Top 5 is even up for debate - of course he does! Not only he is a multiple world champion and one of the few players to have won the world title in both codes, but during the period when he was winning Lakeside, the.PDC was still in its relative infancy and, by that time, many of its founding players were well past their prime. Yes, Taylor was missing, but the BDO field overall was much stronger.
I agree that Phil Taylor is the best ever overall.
John Lowe definitely should be in there 3 World titles in 3 different decades….How many World Championships has Wade won????? Beat the best around him of his era
Another interesting fact is Taylor changed his darts to prolong his career & it was based on a John Lowe dart!
Your rules! Impact & influence
Come on guys rethink!!!😂
Terry Jenkins didn't get a mention, was always up there in the big tournaments.
For me he is the best player, never to win a PDC major title!!
Yh he was a great player, you could also have Mervyn King and Dave Chisnall in that discussion.
Surely Eric Bristow is by far the greatest to never win a PDC major?
Behave
He ain’t getting a mention cause he ain’t anywhere near the top 10, simple
Going with your criteria, John Lowe missing out is a travesty. Three world titles in three decades, 9 darter. Anyway. And including Wade without even a world final. Madness.
Phil Taylor.
Of course, he's the best. Maybe players play as good as him now but he pushed darts on.
MVG
It's a new excellence, let's see how he goes in future.
Bristow
Not as much longevity due to dartisits. Impact and skill, yes.
RVB
Pushed the game forward, was the best player in the world for a short period, when Taylor was around.
Gary Anderson
Won most of the biggest titles, played some of the best darts ever and some of the greatest matches ever.
John Part.
Close to winning much more.
Priestley
Took it to Phil. Won lakeside and Tavern.
John Lowe.
Influence, ability, achievements.
Martin Adams
Never done it against Taylor Barney but his longevity of achievements and skills is just superb. His impact on the game is iconic too.
Lewis
Based on pure skill
I have got a question for everybody why is Gary Anderson top 5 but Peter wright isn't. Both 2 time world champions both Matchplay champions wright arguably has had a bigger impact.i don't think having a silky smooth throw is a good argument so can anyone really explain why Anderson is so much better than wright? Same goes for Adrian Lewis
For me its the longevity at the top for Anderson where Wright has been around for a long time but was a low ranked players for longer than he was at the top
@@Edgartvdarts Anderson only been at the top 10 years wright reached his first world final 10 years ago. Yes Anderson in the bdo was better than wright in the 2000s but that was nothing special. Either way I don't see how Anderson is number 4 for most people and wright is 10 he's surely gotta be 5 or 6
@@mc-cm4ze Gary won a couple of BDO-PDC cross-over events in the mid-2000s. The likes of Taylor, Wade and van Barneveld competed in both.
@@matt_dobson0614yep, beat Phil in the final 7-3 (sets) which was a hugely impressive win.
@@mccann82 I suppose I'm not denying he's better but I'm not so sure the gaps that big
I’d like to see John Lowe in the top ten. Do either of you think that MVG has underachieved in the World Champs? For the second best ever?
1/taylor, 2, Mvg,3, Rvb, 4, Bristow, 5, Lewis,6, Anderson,7, Part,8, Priestley,9, Lowe,10,adams. 👍
As much as I don't like mvg, he can't be worse than 2, with that so many titles and high averages....
Longevity at the top table aswell is unrivalled
Lewis is barely top 15 for me
Taylor, Bristow, MVG, Lowe, RVB, Part, Wilson, Anderson, Priestley, Lewis
John Part is top 5 for me. I would day ahead of Anderson as he best Taylor in his prime and also an overseas player which was a bigger achievement
No John Lowe in the top 10 all time greats, Man Alive! I'm choking on my tea here.
John Lowe easily takes Priestley's spot. Definitely, with out any doubt takes Lewis' spot, and arguably, if only tenuously, takes Anderson's spot in the top 5; Lowe is an Historical Legend, has great darting mythology attached to him, as well as the silver-ware to boot.
I take it John Lowe is in your top 10 then :) what number you give him ?
@Edgartvdarts I'm very surprised Lowe isn't there either, personally had him at number 6 below Gary Anderson but think on reflection I think it should be the other way around but maybe there is a generation thing with people's top 10 players, obviously a bit like any sport.
@@Edgartvdarts I'm undecided, pal. 5 or 6.
This debate always makes me think ‘what if’ Wade beat Lewis in the infamous world semi as he would be borderline top 5 if he won the worlds that year! Sadly he’ll never win it now!

OK. What about Alan Evans, Big Cliff, Jim Pike, Jocky Wilson, Keith Deller and Paul Lim?
And of course as has already been mentioned John Lowe. I saw Anderson and thought Bob, the rhinestone cowboy. Well why not.
Leighton Rees v Adrian Lewis? Only one winner in my book. The Welsh wizard was a class act.
Leighton Rees was winning a losing games with mid 70s averages in BDO world champs on late 70s, Lewis would destroy him. Jim Pike??? Cliff Lazerenko and Alan Evans didn't win anything, Only one with a chance is John Lowe that you mentioned.
@@vincentmcbride6210 I remember 1978. 90 + average against Alan Evans.
Jim Pike better know for making darts but one of the top post war players. I must be showing my age.
Remember also, that dart technology has advanced massively. My first set of tungstens weighed well more than current darts. If you wanted grooves on the points you had to add them yourself.
@@vincentmcbride6210 Alan Evans won the World Masters in 1975, which was the biggest event prior to the first WC in 78. His peak years were in the pre-WC era.
And comparing averages from 70s boards to today is impossible due to the changes in board design.
Paul Lim wouldn't even be in the top 100 for christ sake

Have to have Bristow #1 - longevity, IMPACT and titles - he not only won it all, he helped Taylor win it all. Very much turned him into the Power.

Lowe has to be in the top 5 - won titles in 3 decades, won 100's of titles worldwide, first 9 darter, competed in Bristows timeline, countless world cup wins and england captain wins - championed darts by Unicorn for years in many continents, one of the breakaway to the wdc - has to be there in my opinion.
One of the best dart players I've ever seen was George Walsh from Stockport. I believe he had some epic encounters with Alan Evans and one of these encounters appeared in a book written by Sid Waddell.
However, I used to play in a Weekly tournament in Blackpool in the late 80's. Singles and doubles, where players all paid in and the winner/finalists took all the money. It was great practice too. George used to turn up and win it regularly, for some spare cash to cover his drinking habit. However, on one occasion, I arrived and George was lying down in a corner of the room totally drunk. A group of out of towners came in to play in the tournament. They arrived in a minibus and started practising. They could see this guy in the corner and began to laugh. They asked if he should be removed as he was nearly unconscious. We said no, he's here to play darts and they laughed. These guys were no push overs either and could play darts. They'd booked the minibus and thought they'd come to take the money that evening. One of the guys, I don't know his name was a loud arrogant thrower. He was by far their best player and he knew it. The tournament began and George was still in the corner, he only moved to grab his pint on the table, have a swig, place it back and then curl back into the corner. Anyway after about 45 minutes they called George's name. He never moved. They had to wake him to inform him he was playing. He got up and nearly fell over. He walked to the board and stood there swaying. His opponent was the loud out of towner. George stood there and didn't even practice. The loud guy said to George, "Do you want to make it interesting and play for £20?" George shook his head and said he wasn't interested in playing for peanuts and to make it £100. The loud guy couldn't get his wallet out quick enough and placed his money on the table. George fumbled around his pockets, I think someone placed £100 on the table for him. George then threw back to back 180's and blasted the loud guy 3-0. Shook the loud guys hand, then picked up the money, gave the other guy his £100 and went and laid back down in the corner. "Who the hell is he?" the now quiet guy asked. That's George Walsh, (ex England Captain). I'll never forget it. He was some player.
i don't think you ever get agreement on the top ten... in any sport! i like how you said not just on trophies, but on Longevity and impact, it would be interesting to do three separate lists, based just on these factors, I know balancing prize money from 2023 compared to the 80's is difficult as a player from this year could quite possibly have earned more money in a few years than a top 80's player did in there whole career! Also impact, how high would the Paul Lim 9 darter be on a impact list, the Legacy of Jocky Wilson, If you had to do a comparison for example, Ade Lewis or Jocky, ask the average man in the street and i guess more people still to this day will know the name Jocky Wilson, would as many know Ade Lewis! Also the longevity list would be interesting, i think we are seeing a changing of the guard, players like Steve Beaton and Merv King stepping down the list now but have been around for ever! or players like Ronnie Baxter, even James Wade who is still only young, can not remember him not being in Darts... Matt, you could probably make a whole new channel based on compiling these kind of list... (Yes please) Keep up the great content...
Bristow an easy second for me, he transcended the sport more so than any other player (perhaps even Taylor).
1. Taylor
2. Bristow
3. RvB
4 MvG
5 John Lowe
6 Garry Anderson
7. -10 pick any from: Jockey, Wade, Priestly, Wright, Lewis, Part,
1. Phil Taylor, 2. Van Gerwen, 3. RVB, 4. Bristow, 5. Gary Anderson, 6. Adrian Lewis, 7. John Lowe, 8. John Part, 9. Peter Wright, 10. Dennis Priestley. I was in 2 minds on the position of John Part and Peter Wright. Priestley just makes it in the top 10 ahead of James Wade. If a certain Welshman wins this year at the Worlds then he'll be in the top 10 next year for sure, yes he's not a crowd pleaser but you can't take away what he's done to the modern game, his scoring is immense.
Sorry, but the lists are totally wrong. Van Gerwen is overrated in all of them. He's a great player, but he's only won three world titles, the same as Lowe, but he did it with no real competition. Taylor was well past his prime, and there was no one else to compete with. Gary Anderson is also overrated, he was in the BDO for years, and did nothing.
This is the true list:
1. Eric Bristow
2. Phil Taylor
3. Raymond Van Barneveld
4. John Lowe
5. John Part
6. Michael Van Gerwen
7. Jockey Wilson
8. Dennis Priestley
9. Gary Anderson
10. Martin Adams
The reasoning:
Eric Bristow is quite simply the best player to ever pick up a dart. Had he not got Dartitis in 1986, Phil Taylor would have gone the same way as Dennis Priestley, and Bristow would have won by far the most titles. His impact on the game was massive, psychologically, as well as his skill. Look at the 1997 PDC semi final; eleven years after Bristow was last a force in the game, four time world champion Phil Taylor's hand is shaking when playing Bristow. That's how formidable he still was, in presence, if not in skill. A lot is made of averages, and how much better players are now, totally missing the point that the darts, and boards are so, so much better today, and account for most of that apparent rise in the level of the game. Imagine peak Bristow and Lowe on modern boards, with modern darts. It would be phenomenonal. Their 1987 final saw them miss the 20 (and hit the 1 or 5) just six times between them in the first set of five legs. That's incredible accuracy, with those darts, and on those boards. They left 161 almost every leg. Lowe, and Wilson, beat peak Bristow, and were incredible players in their own right. Likewise Barney, a five times champion, beat Phil Taylor at his peak, when he was unbeatable winning the world title 11 out of 12 years on the trot. John Part did likewise. Taylor had only won 3 in 8 when Van Gerwen won.
Had to unsubscribe for the sun plug

Pete Manley should be in the top 10. No question
entertainment wise defo
He makes my top 10 of personal favourites that’s for sure.
John Lowe has to be in 🎯
Oh, just thinking instead of doing a top ten, how about a top trumps version of Darts players. pick your 6'7'8 categories give em a rating in each, and then discuss with Glenn Player v Player...
My top 10...(typing this before you've announced your list, paused the video)
1. Phil Taylor
2. Michael Van Gerwen
3. Eric Bristow
4. Gary Anderson
5. Raymond Van Barneveld
6. John Lowe
7. Adrian Lewis
8. James Wade
9. Dennis Priestley
10. John Part
Bubbling under - Bob Anderson, Peter Wright, Martin Adams, Rod Harrington, Glen Durrant, Jonny Clayton, and Gerwyn Price.
Gerwyn Price not yet.
Why Anderson at 4 and Wright not even in the top 10? Both 2 time World champs...I mean Wade in the top 10 and not Snakebite give me a break
Mine are as follows
I literally can't do a top 10 because I think that 2 sets of two had a very equal impact, and others also deserve to be mentioned in the "greatest" in their own right.
Taylor - The goat, nothing else to say
MVG - The modern successor to Phil Taylor even amongst much greater competition
Barneveld - Achievements and his impact in making darts popular in europe
Bristow/Lowe tie - The original ones to watch, introduced true darting rivalries to the world
John Part - First North American great player,, also sort of puts darts on the map in NA even though there's still more potential in that region.
G. Anderson/Adrian Lewis tie - Based on achievements and their marketability in the 2010's
Priestley - Without him challenging Phil Taylor, Phil wouldn't have been as great as he turned out to be.
Wade - The best player in the world to never win a WC, a great example of how consistency, rather then bursts of greatness can give you huge success.
Peter Wright - His achievements plus the character and persona he brought to the live TV helping to make darts palatable for modern audiences, what he's done for the game is underrated.
Martin Adams - Very underrated, while he never moved over to the PDC to "tango with the best", he dedicated his life to grassroots darts and gave his all to the BDO which whilst it had a bitter end, what Adams gave to grassroots darts has definitely had a big impact on the competitive standard of darts we see today.
Sorry but your top 10 is completely flawed with the absence of John Lowe and the inclusion of Adie Lewis and Bob Anderson!
1 - Taylor
2 - MVG
3 - Bristow
4 - Lowe
5 - van Barneveld
6 - G Anderson

The problem with Adrian Lewis is although he’s a two time world champ, his time at the pinnacle of darts was too short lived for me. He was only a top 8 player for roughly 5-6 years whereas someone like Wade has been a top 10 player for 20 years & has also won a lot more titles than Lewis. Peter Wright also edges out Lewis in both longevity & # of titles won which is why Lewis doesn’t make my top 10.
Very hard to do. 1 and 2 are fix, but then… for me you have to include.

To not have John Lowe in the top 5 is pretty criminal......and to have Gary Anderson in is just wrong.
I think as you !
Both Eric Bristow and John Lowe have said Alan Evans was the best player they ever saw, he just couldn't do it on the TV. Phil Taylor has also cited him. Alan was there right at the start of darts being on TV in the 70s (The Indoor League) and helped make the sport popular. So in terms of influence and skill...
evans never won the indoor league sadly
You'll always be my number one Duzza :p
I watched a big exhibition Eric v Jocky back in the 80’s when both in their prime… The standard was staggering the whole game. Longest leg was a 12 darter!

John Lowe should definitely be in the Top Ten. Looks at everything he did, in the first 10 years of the BDO world championship you couldn’t talk about darts without talking about John Lowe and Eric Bristow. Also the early greats were the reason darts became so popular in their homelands, Jockey Wilson, Leighton Rees, Alan Evans. The North American greats that made other players in my part of the world realize that we could compete: Larry Butler, Bob Senieve (sp), John Part. There are literally too many I could name to do justice to all the players who I believe had a tremendous impact on darts especially in the early days. Another example I can use is Paul Lim, the first man to hit a nine darter in the World Championship.
You guys obviously put a lot of thought into your top ten lists, and I wouldn’t argue with either of you, but I personally don’t think that I would ever be able to come up with a top ten list of players. Of course I have been watching darts as far back as the late 70’s and early 80’s, so many great players have made an impact on my love of the sport that yeah I wouldn’t be able to do a top ten list, I’d be constantly re-ordering it, or taking a player out and replacing them with another etc.
Just too many greats and I have lived through the original golden years of darts and I’m living in a new golden era now. When I think of all the players who I loved to watch play….. so many fabulous moments and memories.

Wish I could fit Glen in my Top 10, but was a flip of a coin between him and Part.
Great content as always Matt ❤
You can't argue about Taylor being #1. Without Bristow...No Taylor, and without Lowe and Jocky pushing Bristow, maybe no Bristow. These 4 have to be in. For sheer ability, Lewis, Van Gerwen and Anderson have to be in too. Leaving 3 spots. Part did do great, but not consistently, so Bob Anderson who did play consistently for many years gets the nod. RVB and Wade's longevity and success gives them the last 2 spots. The problem is, in 10 years time will we be talking about Gezzy, Wright, Smith, Humphries, Cross, Littler, Rock and Greaves as Top 10 all timers, as the levels keep going up, or are these 10 legends cemented? I think Bristow, Lowe, Jocky and Cowboy Bob will all be surpassed because of the era they played in by 2035.
How would you rank the women, top 5? Trina, deta, greaves, ashton, fallon? Hard to rank tbh.
Suzuki just misses out
Defo trina top
Taylor, mvg, Barney, Bristow, Priestley, Lowe, Anderson, Part, Lewis, Wilson. Got to have Priestley, if it wasn't for Taylor he could have been a 7/8 times world champ

Can't split Wright or Price in 10th place
Taylor,MvG,Bristow, Barney, Part,Lowe,Priestley,G.Anderson, Adams, J. Wilson for me B.Anderson n Lewis just miss out….Lewis purely because I think he will come back. Wade misses out purely because of not beating Taylor in any of his major wins & not winning the Worlds. Still the best left handed ever though
