Colorado's Most Overrated Trail?

- In this video we drive up Taylor Pass during the fall when the colors are amazing in the mountains. This trail is rated a 7/10 nation wide but after running it, well it might be overrated but that doesn't take away from the fact that it is 100% worth the trip to check out.
It is always good to start the morning off with a good Colt masterpiece. Keep up the good work! Cant wait for the OnX build to get done!!
Absolutely beautiful! Just love Colt sporting his hooded sweatshirt and Shana rocking her sleeveless cropped T and sandals amongst the snow! Love your channel!
I have said it before it is great when you and Shana take us on your tours. I like that Shana is not afraid to drive just like Matt's wife Jaime.
If only Colt had a capable vehicle to take off road. His biggest question is which one to take. Love your videos.
I dig all types of off road trails. It doesn’t need to be the states most “Narley” trail for it to be a great adventure. In fact (especially this time of year) I think the mild trails are the best because the leaves 🍁 are changing. Great video. 👍 hey future project idea 💡 build your wife a rig! That way you don’t have to walk so far 😂😉
Living in Michigan, most trails are medium outside of designated off road parks on private property. There's a trail on Drummond Island that USED TO check a box on the Jeep registry of trails, now it's been removed from the Jeep registry because the DNR chose to grade it so smooth you can take a FWD econocar through it. In that case it was about revenue and sightseeing at the cost of off-roaders losing interest enough that one of the most popular trail registries removed it from consideration. No reason to believe this one is any different, attract more people to the area and screw the off-roaders that put the place on the map.
Colt,You and the wife always put out awesome videos.Imagine ,Most will never get to experience these Trail Rides.!!!
Great variety of videos, I love your fabrication vids and ones like this as well! Every time I hear Shanna’s name I think of Deathproof. “It’s Shanna banana not Shawna Banawna.” Not sure if you’ve seen that movie. Got my Colt Builds It shirts in the mail! Thanks!
That's hilarious as soon as Shana said she likes gold I immediately started quoting gold member and then you did too I love it!
So beautiful, thanks for sharing. Seemed a bit scarier than Mount Blanca, for the steepness!
As a candian living in the Rockies, this makes me want to move to Colorado or Utah or New Mexico. We have beautiful mountains here but you guys have sand and big ass rocks as well.
Hi Mr & Mrs Builds it. Loved my vacations in Colorado. Visited Pikes peak in 2015. It was 14,110ft at the summit. The air was a little thin, especially for someone who normally lived at pretty much sea Level. Thanks for sharing your adventures. 😎🇬🇧
I hope we get an opportunity to see Shannon driving more trails. She is a good driver and did really well driving the trail.
It is a shame that they hurt the trail by making it easier because trails are suppose to be fun and challenging in my opinion
Its great to see Shana coming out of her "shell" for being on camera.
I do totally agree with you as far as a basic stock Jeep could do it easily and even that short cut could use a Rubicon Wrangler.
Nice area. I love red leaves.....
Thanks for taking me back home. Please do Slide Lake and Holy Cross.
Hi Colt. Thanks for another great trip over the Colorado mountains what a beautiful place. Looks like somebody already told you about Pondo. It's about 80 mi from my house . Very beautiful place I've enjoyed hiking through it most of my life. Love the videos they're great thank you
Nice video . Loving all the Autumn/Fall colours totally beautiful.
Nice video. I like these videos because it shows you want in the area. Would also love to see what other things you are around as well to do. Looking to come out that way sometime and just love to get more information and ideas of things to do in the area that normal people can do all well not just off road 4x4.
Thank you for all these tips for Colorado trails. My daughter lives in Denver, and we have been scoping out things to do while visiting her.
Beautiful! We actually just got back to OKC from a trip to Colorado. We began in Estes Park, but quickly escaped the Front Range (not a fan) to the Gunnison Valley area, driving through Buena Vista on the way. My mother-in-law owned and operated a restaurant in Gunnison (the Quarter Circle) for many years in the 80s and 90s. We love this area. Although we didn't make Taylor Pass, we did drive the loop on Slate River Road out of Crested Butte, up to Paradise Divide and down through Gothic back to Crested Butte. I've done Schofield Pass and Devil's Punchbowl a couple of times, once as a passenger in a CJ5 and the other on ATVs. BTW - I highly recommend the "Secret Stash" pizza place in Crested Butte.
The next day we drove the tame Kebler Pass from Crested Butte on our way to Montrose and on down to Ouray, Silverton and Durango.
We could not have timed the color change any better, with views that looked much like the ones you show in this video. My wife is not comfortable doing any really challenging off-roading [yet], so we'll likely keep our Jeep JLU Rubicon on more tame ventures until she loosens up.
As always, thanks much for sharing.
Steve
Colt, it was just graded this year. Your problem is using OnX. It does not get updated and I have posts in my CO offroad trails group where people get into trouble using their inaccurate info. Granted, I understand why you use them as they approached me too.
TrailsOffroad for the win.
Shannon has us covered of course.
Peak foliage up here in NH
42°F this morning
Highs up to 68°F
Pando, the Trembling Giant
Richfield, Utah
One of the world's oldest and most massive living organisms is a grove of quaking aspens.
The one at Fish Lake UT is the largest one I know of. Aspen groves are a thing of its own anyway.
Another great video! ❤
Cheers from Southern California USA 🇺🇸 👍
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS , DONT CARE FOR ALL THE rock crawlers videos MATT , RORY ECT ..... THEY DONT go do just outdoor command guy stuff . This is the closest to hunting , fishing , camping stuff with a truck !!!!!! THANKS FOR DOING THIS KIND OF VIDEOS !!!!!!
Smoke show is in my top three rigs
Sweet S10 I'm sure IV said it before...but that's a sexy S10.. watched the full build at least twice.. great job
A subara maybe, but would Colt take a minivan on this 7/10?
❤ Dinosaur Colorado USA saying hello and stay safe out there brother 👍🤙🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Yep very nice day for you 2 trail drive an she's doing great job driving the trail.
cool trail looks fun great video
Great job guys. Thank you 😊
Been up on the Sangria decrisco mountains mount baldy outside west cliff Colorado awesome drive up there 30 years ago
Shana is a riot. Lucky man. I love Colorado's trails.
I have dirtbiked all those trails. I am reminded how beautiful it is, and need to get the jeep over there for a recap.
Seems like most of the Colorado trails are rated this same way. Here in northern Colorado u find a lot of the same. My 51 Willy’s wagon does them with ease although I am on a Dana 44 front axle and ford nine inch rear with little 33 inch tires with a sm465 and Dana 300 twin stick with a v8. But on factory leafs and power steering conversion cross over high steer. Makes it fun and my daughter loves riding in it! Thanks for the video.
I didn't see anything I would not have attempted in a stock 2 wheel drive pickup as a kid.
Sure wish I could’ve made this trip with you guys.
That trail looks like a light overlander trail
Wow. Fall colors already. About were MN, where I was last Wednesday, is at right now and well ahead of NH, where I am now.
👍🏽🇺🇸👍🏽 it may be easy now but the views are amazing..
You got that right!
That’s awesome thank you for sharing. Rookie mistake taking that little stock S-10 off the rock. I’m sure you know that I’ll been there done that with my 1st S-10 as well.😂
Good video, I think they’re making the trail easier, is for the pavement princess, LOL it’s a nice trail to relax on and enjoy the scenery 👍
Kelly humps and concrete spikes are used around here to close off where they can't use gates.
Alpine burn is real! Had it!! You are correct that the Aspen is the world’s largest living organism. Most people don’t know that it isn’t just one tree after another but actually trees living on the same root system! Thanks for the trail ride. Need to get back out West. 😊
Um maybe but you need to look at the Upper Peninsula of Michigan Armillaria gallica, a parasitic mold that covers 180 acres and is estimated to be 1,500 years old. This fungus is also known as "the humongous fungus
Hey guys, it looks like you came in from the Ashcroft town site. Next time you come up Taylor Pass come over from Aspen and go up the ski area. The trail isn’t necessarily harder but it’s way more beautiful. Also from where you’re at at the top of Taylor Pass, the switchbacks go to Aspen where you’re pointing goes down to Taylor lake and off to the right of the lake is a dead end trail that has a neat little cabin. Also throw out we’re gonna be there because I would love to come and join you, even though I have a razor.
And actually to be clear, the forest service came in and destroyed Taylor Pass. It wasn’t necessarily because people were making extra trails. It’s because they wanted to “combat“ erosion. The national forest service really gets on people for not making new trails for a little bit, and will actually find you for it yet they come in with bulldozers And make new trails… The forest service is to blame for Taylor pass being simple
I love your trail rides!!
Glad you like them!
Thank you for the video I love the country I am a tree hugger wish I had a 4 wheel drive I be out their with you
Smokeshow S10❤! Scrub oak, for all the colors🥰. You two look awesome, where's the lovely gray🤩 Largest single organism, how's your Aspen?😂
I believe you are correct on the aspen trees. Utah has the largest living group of them. It’s up near strawberry reservoir, if I remember right.
It's actually down on Boulder Mountain.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pando_(tree)
There are some really good trails that branch off of Taylor pass we live in gunnison a spend a lot of time out there just finished my rig and we are going to start putting out videos of the area if you’re in the area again think it would be really cool to go wheelin with you
Colt would you consider doing a video or series of videos for a someone with little or no off road experience to gain some trail time with a stock or near stock rig? Talk about when to use 4 high versus 4 low. How to read a line, must haves for a trail ride just some basics.. thanks for your videos!
If you need that kind of INSTRUCTION just stay in the CITY !!!! There are tons of clubs you need to join for that stuff!
If you do buy a 4x4 and take it out on some difficult trails, please call Matt or Rory when you stuff it so we get to enjoy it too.
great as always great content very entertaining
Glad you enjoyed it
That exhaust sounds amazing. What does it consist of?
I live by the great sand dunes. I love this place. And I believe mycelium is the largest living organism.
That was good trip. Thank you
I have used on x hunt for quite a while and love it. On x off road is also pretty good for finding and identifying trails but I’ve found the ratings to be very misleading. I’ve been on 2/3s that are more difficult and some 5/6s that are dirt roads? It’s a really cool tool and I wouldn’t go without it but improving ratings accuracy would be great!
That looked like 2WD stuff right there.
I'd take a guess and say aspens could be one of the largest, but don't think they're the largest tho. Thought it was some type of mushrooms.
So basically an aspen grove w mushrooms growing on it?
I was just up in taylor park for the sherpa summit beautiful area
Could I take a stock Z71?
I like the green anything after the green is just starts to make me sad cuz I know it's going to become work Winter's coming leaves will need raking have to start blowing snow soon
every shark bite story starts the same way, i was in the ocean!
Nice scenic trail!
It sure is!
Dang wish i knew you were in aspen would have loved to say hi.
I love that truck:!
Guessing they close those harder options because of erosion, not because people made an easier line. The more worn they get, the more susceptible they are to increased wear. That easy route will erode away and become more difficult in time.
Pearl Pass is harder and a fun ride. It's just up the road from the start of Taylor.
I wonder if someone set it at seven to keep stockers out?
Aspen trees are known to be the oldest living organisms on earth. Plus, they are the largest living organism on the globe and are over 80,000 years old.
Dang 2nd. I'm here
Pikes peak is 14,115' ranked 30 out of 53. Sunshine peak at 14,007' is the lowest.
Orange like your sunglasses 😂
So far, looks like I could do that in my 2wd
What happen to the passenger door?
Ultimate Adventure 2023
Aspens are in the top 5
Great video and I love the Bible quotes. How long did it take to make the Round Trip?
Living in Colorado and running a rig i built up that has run well over 100 trails that is a truck I'm surprised some clueless jeeper has not stopped you to say can that make this trail ?? 😂
✌️
Tacoma boys need to stop rating trails- and taking bypasses...
Hahaha
You can tell it's an Aspen by the way it is.
I dislike trail pavers. It's like the Rubicon paving crew aka the Jeepers Jamboree. 😅
I will trust your opinion….😁
i thought Lizzo was the largest living organism
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Is Lizzo actually alive?
💀💀💀💀
😅🤣🙃😉😊👍I agree!!
@@patbullard9276 thats always debatable
I )over my on x app, but it's been my experience that they over rate trails. Maybe it's for safety purposes.
Hey colt Siri set the largest living organism what is the blue whale I don't know
Please don't encourage subaru s our winch lines are wearing out.
First
OVERRATED Dude your in a ONX BUILD WINING VEHICLE on like 44s !!! Try it in a YUGO !!
Blue whale is the largest living organism
17:22 correct, Aspen’s are the largest living organism. Theres a set on Buffalo Pass in Steamboat that is said to be the largest and oldest set in the state.
However it is hard to prove:
The only other thing that could be the same size is a fungi.
