As a Gen X, I'm so glad that younger generations can watch older shows and see why they were appreciated. And, of course, love Betty White. Lake Placid Betty is one of my favorites. She was a great human and entertainer. I did the same with shows my parents watched.
Sophia was portrayed as in her 80s in the show. The rest were supposed to be in their 50s, although Blanche (Rue McClanahan) was the only one who was in real life. Bea Arthur and Betty White were in their 60s - as was Estelle Getty.
One my favorite shows. Never gets old. It's funny that the younger generation Aiden's age are discovering the Golden Girls and have really revived the show again. It played in the 80s and early 90s. It was quite edgy for back then. Definitely always makes you laugh.
If you two like "The Golden Girls," both of you should watch "The Carol Burnett Show." They are still popular even after fifty years the last episode aired. The whole cast was hilarious, and they did so much excellent sketch comedy. For example, they did a spoof on "Gone with the Wind" and "Sunset Boulevard." My favorite one is when Tim Conway and Harvey Korman did "The Dentist Sketch." Tim said that he made Harvey laughed so much in the dentist chair that he made Harvey pee his pants.
The Golden Girls main characters included 62-year-old Estelle, who played 79-year-old Sophia. Rose Nylund was 63 years old and played 55-year-old Betty White. Dorothy Zbornak was 63 and played 53-year-old Bea Arthur, and 51-year-old Rue McClanahan portrayed 53-year-old Blanche Devereau. The show was from 85-92
Betty White and Bea Arthur were 63 when the show started(1922-1985 = 63). The character of Sophia Patrillo was never in her 70's during the show, in 1985 it was known that Sophia was 81.
It is important for Office Bloke Daz and Gaynor to know that Christopher Lloyd The Head Writer for The Golden Girls is a Co-Creator and Co-Producer for "Modern Family"! That is why the WRITING on both shows has won MANY TV Emmy Awards! :)
@@blackguardharper7005 Yes! Right! Thank you for saying that or the Drug Brained guy on TAXI.. true totally different people. coincidence having the same name.
There was one time where the cast of this show (Betty White, Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty) did a performance as their characters during the 1988 Royal Variety Show. It looks like it aired in the UK on Channel 4, and apparently the Queen Mother was a huge fan.
“And if you threw a party, invited everyone you knew. You would see the biggest gift would be from me and the card attached would say ‘thank you for being a friend’!”
bit of fun fact the character of Deadpool os a Golden Girls fan and his swords names are "Bea" & "Arthur" after The actress who plays Dorothy. Beatrice Bea Arthur.
I'm 27 but I grew up with the Golden Girls because of my mom and became my sister's favorite show. It's really a solid show be nice to watch more reactions to it
I watched every episode when the series was on. They were hysterical and I loved their friendship too. I still love the song “Thank you for being a FRIEND”. I cried each time passed. Very dignified actresses. Thanks for sharing. “
The Golden Girls ended in 1992, when Ab FaB launched....then there was Desperate Housewives and later Llittle Britain, the best shows TV has seen since I Love Lucy!
Even worse… she got a face lift after the first season. I remember reading an article or seeing an interview and they said the makeup people were PISSED because they had to work extra hard to make her look older 😂.
I'm the curator of the Golden Girls Museum. Thank you for this! And yes the museum exists. You just need to be part of the Golden illuminati to gain access ;)
The one at #6 with Sophia ripping on Blanche and then turning it over to Dorothy is amazing. But what REALLY makes the scene and the writing of the show so brilliant is then Sophia turns it back onto Dorothy lol. Most every other show would have stopped at Dorothy's line, and it still would have been a great scene, but that last bit elevates it.
they are in the range of 50-80 years old, Sopia is the oldest by being 80 years old which is ironic since her actress is the youngest of the group the youngest was the oldest.
Rue was the youngest in real life and played the youngest character, Blanche. Estelle is second youngest. Betty White is the eldest - a few months older than Bea.
@@jen6879 really? damn, i think i mixed them up, i remember the woman who played sophia was the youngest while who played blanche was the oldest but their roles being swapped(blanche being 50 while sophia was 80)
I _just_ saw a graphic posted today on Facebook that showed the ages of the cast members and their characters at the start of the show. Yeah, they were meant to be about 55, but Betty White and Bea Arthur were about ten years older than their characters. And Rue McLanahan was the same age as hers.
Fun fact: Sophia, Estelle Getty, was younger than Dorothy, Bea Arthur and Rose Betty White. Blanche liked to lie about her age; hence, Dorothy's response "in what, dog years" implying that Blanche was roughly 35 years (5x7) older than Derek.
See now THIS is the one you should have had Aiden for. C’mon guys 🤦🏿♂️😂 Edit: I just remembered I commented and suggested this compilation on the other Golden Girls video.
Wow. Even when Aiden isn't in the video, people still complain that he doesn't like something a lot of us find hilarious and is therefore inferior in some way... It's amazing how offended people can get, that 100% of people don't enjoy the exact same things as them.
It's so good that you didn't include that young man in this video. It's so unbearable to watch somebody in the group who doesn't share the same humour as you two.
not sure the age they were trying to represent, but they were living in an adult housing, so at least 55.. the jokes were good, but the story lines were never good for me. can not watch a full episode..
As a Gen Z teen I have watched this show for years with my Mom. I absolutely love it and Betty White will always have a special place in my heart.

As a boomer I am glad you youngins Generation X can appreciate old pictures and shows such as these.
Golden Girls will never die, they will go from generation to generation.
They are releasing a new version of it.......oh no
The way Betty White could be so vicious but still sound so sweet and nurturing is just a talent that will never be repeated.
You should look up Betty White & Joan Rivers
I can watch a The Golden Girls marathon on any rainy day or if your home sick. It's very comforting and entertaining. Never gets old.
R.I.P. all four of them.
Sophia was portrayed as in her 80s in the show. The rest were supposed to be in their 50s, although Blanche (Rue McClanahan) was the only one who was in real life. Bea Arthur and Betty White were in their 60s - as was Estelle Getty.
Yea that's crazy. Though box office receipts didn't love "Stop or My Mom Will Shoot!"

The character of Sophia Patrillo was never in her 70's during the show, in 1985 it was known that Sophia was 81.
I took it off google
They actually came to London and performed live for the Queen mom. She loved the show. It’s on UA-cam.

Aidan wouldn't even watch another compilation of GG.
He might like it if he saw the show in full context. The last time he saw it they just showed out-of-context clips like these.
Thank goodness, his negative attitude would just ruin the video.

I think Aiden would’ve changed his mind after this compilation. I really do. This is a good one. Great reaction as always!
It's better he's not there to ruin the vibe for this, so we could just enjoy the reaction. Most Gen Z rejects things that came before them

"Sanford and Son" was a hilarious show from the 1970s that you all will love.
The way that Fred and aunt Esther fought made it one of the funniest shows ever.

The Golden Girls is funny at any age tbh. I don’t think age is a reason to not get it, lack of sense of humor might be though.
You two should review when The Golden Girls performed at The Royal Variety for Queen Mother!
