The Gary/Asteroth fight has since been nerfed, you'll find when he dashes directly towards you he is now much slower so you can afford to 'react' to the dash when it happens rather than in advance, there is also much less health on the second phase and less pentagrams placed on the ground

How are you able to tell what statue is possessed in the Lisa fight?

It's whichever statue Alu dashes to fastest - to see that easier I like to keep Lisa at the top of the room, then when it dashes I can easily see where it went
