It allowed Miyagi to know what techniques to teach Daniel to counter Cobra Kai style if his attempt at diplomacy failed.

I have discovered a new appreciation for this scene in-particular. Mr Miyagi doesn’t blink once during the confrontation. And of course “Always look eye!”. Outwardly he’s calm and collected, but I get the sense that he was waiting for Kreese to throw a sucker punch, and he was ready for it.
It’s great acting. Mr Miyagi executes this perfect mental dance where he isn’t looking for a fight, but he also isn’t taking any shit or backing an inch. It’s almost as if he earned a sliver respect from Kreese.
I like how Kreese refers to Mr Miyagi as "old man" a number of times during this scene and now Kreese is about two decades older than what Mr Miyagi was here.
Kreese: a man confronts you, he is the enemy, an enemy deserves no mercy, what is the problem Mr. Lawrence? Johnny: what if a women slaps you? Kreese: we file a restraining order
I quoted this scene when I met William Zabka and Ralph Macchio last month at a convention. I was behind a screen and didn't step into view until I called out, "What is the problem, Mr. Lawrence?" It made my life when William Zabka said he thought it was really Martin Kove screaming the lines.
"WHAT IS THE PROBLEM, MR. LAWRENCE? I mean, really, Mr. Lawrence, I'm trying to help you ... I care about you, Mr. Lawrence ... you know you can always come and talk to me."
I don't agree with Kreese's methods, but he had a good point at :02 with the student who looked away for less than a second. Even Miyagi would have sanctioned Daniel for losing his concentration, even if for less than a second.
He's also got another good point - he says if an enemy engages them in a street fight - then they deserve no mercy so basically , kreese, is saying don't take crap from those who wish to harm you
"This is a karate dojo, not a knitting class! You don't come into my dojo drop a challenge and leave old man .... You get your act together before me and you have a major problem!" Well written and performed Kreese led the way on this scene. He embraces everything you want in a bad guy 😆 🤣 😂 "If he doesn't show then it's open season on him .... And you"
@traplandmuzik, the line was, "This is a _karate dojo,_ not a knitting class! You don't come in _my dojo,_ and drop a challenge and leave, old man! Now, you get your boy on the mat, or you and I will have a _major problem!"_
I like how Miyagi calmly defused Kreese's deliberate probing escalating accusation; "Are you calling Mr Lawrence a liar?" - to - "No call no-one nothing."
"If you don't show, then it's open season. On him...and YOU!" Heh, yeah send more of your students to get wiped by Miyagi. Never learned your lesson the first time, didn't you?
Eyes11 That line really has me wondering something: Can you all imagine if in Season 3 of Cobra-Kai Kreese tells his students-namely Hawk-that it’s open season on all the LaRussos and Amanda and Anthony get harassed, or Anthony gets beaten/threatened with everything under the sun via Hawk? Will Amanda still hold on to that “no more karate” ultimatum if something like that happens?
35 years later: “Hello, Danny-boy. Nice try, but you can’t end a war with diplomacy. So I suggest you prepare your students for battle, because now it’s open season on them...and you!”
I love the depth they give both in Cobra Kai. Thomas Ian Griffith never really got to show his character skills in Karate Kid 3. Cobra Kai S4 just wowed me.
There’s something about Martin Kove’s performance in this that doesn’t feel 1-dimensional cartoon 80s villain. He legit feels evil and menacing with very little screen time. I think it’s the second best performance of the film behind Pat Morita.
I think it goes something like this... Any movie before 1960 is officially OLD... 60's movies = groovy, hip, peaceful, far out, plenty of variety, etc. 70's movies = NICE 80's movies = The BEST 90's movies = Pretty good... 2000's = Sure... 2010's = ugh...
Ariff Adam “Mr. Miyagi has a real core because he knows who he is. This guy knows who he is-he knows he’s the most deadliest thing on Earth-he just chooses not to announce that, but he is someone who knows the bottom line-the bottom line being that if it comes to where you have to defend your life, he knows he has the goods.” -Robert Mark Kamen
"Wait...not yet." Miyagi thinking back about his time at the Sekai Taikai and clashing with Kim Sun Young. Miyagi is connecting the dots about where Kreese learned the karate he teaches.
So many movies after this one tried to copy the same "formula", different martial arts, with different actors, slightly different storylines etc. but none has matched the heart and charisma of the Karate Kid.
I loved when Kreese said, "You're a _pushy little bastard,_ ain't ya? But, _I like that! I LIKE THAT!"_ Of course, it was a _brilliant_ strategy to save Daniel-san "two months beating!" (Since Mr. Miyagi _knew_ that if Kreese told his students not to fight Daniel, they wouldn't)
3:13 ...did anyone else notice the guy on the left with his arm in a cast? LOL, this scene sets the tone for how intense Kreese was with his karate training and methodology. You could be in a wheelchair and he'd still be yelling at you to get on the mat and spar.
What really surprises me about Mr. Miyagi is not just that he is an insane grandmaster of Karate, no what surprises me is that he is an actual adult, after watching Cobra Kai and seeing every adult act like a confused teenager and an ineffectual parent/teacher, and then rewatching this movie, I end up realizing that Mr. Miyagi truly was lightyears ahead from everyone else in terms of wisdom and self discipline so many years before the series, he never truly went out to look for a fight or for justice or anything like that, he was not ruled by ego or pride or anger, he was always patient and understanding, yet firm and the same time he wasn't looking to take control of his student/son figure the way Daniel mostly did, he knew when to let someone find their own way and when someone needed a challenge that maybe was a little outside the box, he was aware of reality unlike most modern parents when it comes to bullies, he was a true adult figure in Daniel's life in such a way that even in the future years after his demise he was still able to be a guide to Daniel and pretty much everyone else.
After Kreese said “I heard you jumped some of my students last night,” Miyagi should have said “oh that? Nope - I kicked the shit out of a bunch of assholes that deserved it!”
“We do not train to be merciful here. Mercy is for the weak. Here. On the streets. On competition. A man confronts you, he is the enemy. & an enemy deserves no mercy. What is the problem Mr. Lawrence” (Years later… Mr. Diaz)
Miyagi was funny here he says 1 on 1 problem yes 5-1 problem too much for anybody but he kicked all their asses by himself while Daniel is laying on the ground 😂

I don't agree with Kreese's methods, but he had a good point at :02 with the student who looked away for less than a second. Even Miyagi would have sanctioned Daniel for losing his concentration, even if for less than a second.
Sohaib Azam you do know its a film
Same here, I'm practicing karate and my teachers don't teach me Kreese's methods.
Hey, Miyagui actually "sanctioned" Daniel knocking him down for bragging and not concentrating while training.
He's also got another good point - he says if an enemy engages them in a street fight - then they deserve no mercy so basically , kreese, is saying don't take crap from those who wish to harm you
Yeah - I know what you mean but, what if the assailant has a gun or even a knife
I like how calm Miygai was. He was always relaxed but ready to fight at the same time.
And you"
"Knitting" class.
"Get your boy on the mat" rather than "get your act together"
The funny thing is that at exactly this point in the exchange Miyagi has not yet "dropped a challenge."
It says a ot about Kreese that Miyagi literally says "ask leave boy alone", but Kreese sees that as a challenge to a fight nonetheless.
@traplandmuzik, the line was,
"This is a _karate dojo,_ not a knitting class! You don't come in _my dojo,_ and drop a challenge and leave, old man! Now, you get your boy on the mat, or you and I will have a _major problem!"_
I like how Miyagi calmly defused Kreese's deliberate probing escalating accusation; "Are you calling Mr Lawrence a liar?" - to - "No call no-one nothing."
straydoggio “no call no one *nu-ting..”
"Ain't calling you a truther!"
These guys are so over the top there's no way you can forget them
"If you don't show, then it's open season. On him...and YOU!"
Heh, yeah send more of your students to get wiped by Miyagi.
@@MMZERO9 that would be sick dude....
@@MMZERO9 You called it for season 3. Lol damn!
Mr. Miyagi should have just kicked his ass and taught all the students; he could renovate his whole house for free.
35 years later:
“Hello, Danny-boy. Nice try, but you can’t end a war with diplomacy. So I suggest you prepare your students for battle, because now it’s open season on them...and you!”
Great scene..this film is a real standout particularly for those who grew up in the 80's and 90's..
ikr
ikr?
For those who grew up in the 70s and 80s. The world took a nosedive in the 90s.
I thought Kreese was a cartoon villain but Terry takes the cake in that category 😂
@@drlee2 Yes, Kreese seemed more realistic here than Terry Silver's character in KK3 and even Cobra Kai
@@jonzwikk1582 In Fairness 1980's cocaine users did act like Terry Silver.
@@jaystrickland4151 lol ok
That dude at 3:25 shows some determination coming to the training with a broken arm.
Kreese probably dragged him out of bed XD
I had never noticed that!
I still didn't see how Miyagi broke his arm in that Halloween fight scene.
gast128 hey it's not really broken. They're just acting.
lol. was thinking the exact same thing (first time I noticed it in like 30 years. lol)
Who came here after watching Cobra Kai?
me and ur mom
+Victory .Studios You troll xD 😂😂😂
you know it bby, lets all have a 3some
... No thanks.
Victory .Studios Your momma jokes are so 2012.
- "Johnny Johnny"
- "Yes, sensei?"
- "Showing mercy?
- "No, sensei."
Telling lies?
No sensei
LOL XD
This is so funny
That "but I like that" gotta one of the most iconic lines in cinema history
Hi Rob do you know any other action movie I can watch
Martin played this part so well. You can feel the hate the audience had for Kreese.
Kreese: "This is a karate dojo, not a knitting class!"
Miyagi: "The only kitting will be between you and your bones."
Is it me or are movies just not as good as this these days
+sharkie12354 they are not.
I think it goes something like this...
Any movie before 1960 is officially OLD...
60's movies = groovy, hip, peaceful, far out, plenty of variety, etc.
70's movies = NICE
80's movies = The BEST
90's movies = Pretty good...
2000's = Sure...
2010's = ugh...
Definitely! We're still talking about this film 34 years later (Mark of an excellent film)
Some say 82-92 were the golden years
They've no heart.
No message.
No role models. Especially for young men to look up to.
Mr. Miyagi was such a G. That's how you do it. You step to me then we just may fight. If we fight then you must lose.
It is just impossible to rewatch this, and not think about what will happen to Johnny, Daniel and Kreese in the future after watching Cobra Kai
This is a karate dojo, not a knitting class! I teach knitting on Wednesdays.
Ashley Nicole do it
Kreese came back from the dead in the 3rd movie.
LOL!
LOL!
did you skip arts and crafts?
0:06 always made me laugh, “HAI HAI!!”
👍🏻😂
The sensei knows if he touches Miyagi ... he's finish. Check out that Mr. Miyagi is fearless, because he knows he can win anytime.
Facts
"Wait...not yet."
Miyagi thinking back about his time at the Sekai Taikai and clashing with Kim Sun Young. Miyagi is connecting the dots about where Kreese learned the karate he teaches.
Kwon Death Will scar the Cobra Kai name forever
I like how miyagi talks like Yoda a bit in reverse kind of.
Hi Michael do you know any other action Movie I can watch I’m bored 😢
wow seeing Johnny now, puts this in a new light
Black Kid was Lamar at "revenge of the nerds"...lol.
We are Lambda Lambda Lambda and....Omega Mu!!
No it was "Gay guy from revenge of the nerds"
Ricky G Lamar latrelle..... '' my blouse''. Lol
cmmadd who has come here to do a show for you.
Lamar used his limp-wristed fighting style here.
I love the color hue they chose for this movie, makes everything so warm and mellow
The first guy doing 60 push ups are a legend
Notice how Tommy and Bobby are smirking, when Kreese says "I hear you jumped some of my students last night".
Cuz they went running crying to their sensei, and now they think he's going to show him.
imagine thinking 1 guy jumped 4 guys. 5 guys actually.
In reality, apparently Pat and Ralph would make faces when the camera was behind them to make the Cobra Kais laugh
I still like to think Kreese is the same character as the douche co-pilot in Rambo: First Blood Part II
you thınk right and kreese is the guy rambo kicked in his groın
Richard Klosterman He is.
@john doe haha you're a dumb ass
Yes it's him
So many movies after this one tried to copy the same "formula", different martial arts, with different actors, slightly different storylines etc. but none has matched the heart and charisma of the Karate Kid.
Like that show where they train an army of Karate kids to defeat the dojo? And the dojo was inspired by Vietnam snakes?
I thought it was so stupid.
"You're a pushy little bastard ain't ya? But I like that, I like that"
This sentence make my day every single time 😀
Ralph was 22, Pat was 51, Zabka was 18, and Kove was 39 in this scene
So Kreese was only 12 years younger and call Miyagi old man? 😂😂😂
I always thought that Miyagi was something around 65 years old...
Kove was 37
Wild that Kove looks almost 50 and Daniel looks 16. Pat looks 60
Pat would’ve looked his age if it wasn’t for his grey hair.
@H.K.5 It's the balding too.
This was one of my fav scenes from the movie. Fantastic acting and dialogue from Martin Cove
The performance of actors from the 80s are golden. 80s had the best actors.
Such a great scene with great dialogue and tension-building, the movie that started it all. Martin Kove is a great actor.
great performance by all actors in this great show ☯️🙏
You don’t see it all in this clip but I always loved how Mr. Miyagi carefully walks Daniel out of the dojo.
Creese looks great here, AND STILL DOES! Still a bad ass in his 70's. "I like that"
Hi Shane can I watch this on Netflix
I loved when Kreese said, "You're a _pushy little bastard,_ ain't ya? But, _I like that! I LIKE THAT!"_ Of course, it was a _brilliant_ strategy to save Daniel-san "two months beating!" (Since Mr. Miyagi _knew_ that if Kreese told his students not to fight Daniel, they wouldn't)
Hi Robert can I watch this Movie on Netflix
@@michelledemgard9862 Sadly, no. None of the original three _Karate Kid_ movies are on Netflix.
@@RobertNielsen1970 Okay
Robert can we be friends if you don’t mind ?
johnny became a good sensei in cobra kai
“It’s open season. On him. And you.” For godsake he acts like he’s in the mafia 😂
3:13 ...did anyone else notice the guy on the left with his arm in a cast? LOL, this scene sets the tone for how intense Kreese was with his karate training and methodology. You could be in a wheelchair and he'd still be yelling at you to get on the mat and spar.
He is at the very start throwing shoulder punches too
Watching this after seeing Kreese's time in Vietnam, you can tell he really has been to the other side.
And Miyagi didn't a little versus the Nazis?
@chrismc410 I didn't say that, now did I?
Sadly, that’s truth in television. A distressingly high number of adults I’ve met working retail clearly did not mature, they just got older.
@@magicaltour1 Yeah, many of us could have benefited from a mister Miyagi. It wasn't to be for most of us though.
After Kreese said “I heard you jumped some of my students last night,” Miyagi should have said “oh that? Nope - I kicked the shit out of a bunch of assholes that deserved it!”
😂
martin kove great performance as sensei kreese ☯️🙏
Miagi NEVER takes his eyes off Kreese. Like a warrior
Imagine the number of pushups that guy had to do every time they had to redo the scene.
Johnny Lawrence was the best bully. Dude had hands!!
Dibiase He was definitely a better character that Mike Barnes, even though Barnes is more lethal in terms of fighting
Mike barnes was the best
@@christiannunez4292 johnny was better than mike
Silver by far the "best" worst bully... physiological warfare is more dangerous than any fight
"What are you looking at, finish him!" LOL Kreese is STILL scary.
Love all the karate kid movies watch them all over and over again when I was kid
“We do not train to be merciful here. Mercy is for the weak. Here. On the streets. On competition. A man confronts you, he is the enemy. & an enemy deserves no mercy. What is the problem Mr. Lawrence”
(Years later… Mr. Diaz)
The villains in this movie deserve great credit, especially Kreese and Johnny.
Johnny isn’t a villain
@@superego8405 I guess you're right!
@@superego8405more like an antagonist
One of my favorite hero meets the villain scenes.
this is a karate dojo not a knitting class! that line always cracked me up lol
Very funny how he said "No one touches the primma Donna until the tournament" 😂
Miyagi was funny here he says 1 on 1 problem yes 5-1 problem too much for anybody but he kicked all their asses by himself while Daniel is laying on the ground 😂
