The problem is Grieves is so down the rabbit hole that he is immune to a multitude of basic warning signals in the psyche that his mind and emotions have become permanently tough enough to intellectually reason with a seeming empathetic conscience while behind that having a complete numbness of conscience. The soft inner naivete of the human heart and mind has become scar tissue. He has a version of empathy and conscience but it is constructed in a way alien to the average person How does this inner 'strength' form ? ?
