Being the first video of 2022, I still want to wish you and your families a New Year full of health and serenity.
We all really, really need it!
Today I want to take you with me to the wonderful Valle d'Aosta Region, to discover the alpine village of Chamois, located at 1,813 meters above sea level (5,948 ft), in Valtournanche, where I was last September.
It is a truly unique place, if you think that since 1955 its inhabitants, who currently are only 111, have decided to ban cars and to live completely immersed in nature, replacing them with sustainable mobility.
In fact, this wonderful village is among the 23 Europeans called "Pearl of the Alps", a prestigious title that rewards the most virtuous municipalities for eco-sustainability.
Chamois is still the only place in Italy without cars. Really a rarity, what do you think?
And how is it possible, then, to achieve it?
You can get there with a funicular that leaves from the underlying town of Brusson which in less than ten minutes arrives directly in Chamois.
Unfortunately I was unable to document this trip because the glass of the funicular was too damaged and you could hardly see anything and it was a real shame.
For those who want to go up on foot, they can take an ancient mule track that has 93 curves!
Certainly a wonderful trail to do!
Chamois is a resort that can be enjoyed in any season.
In winter it is a true Paradise for skiers, with its 14 km of slopes for alpine skiing and an interesting off-piste skiing towards the Cheneil basin.
Furthermore, you can practice cross-country skiing with over 5.5 km of slopes in a flat terrain that leads to the locality of La Magdeleine which in summer becomes a splendid trail that can be practiced by everyone in the presence of the Matterhorn.
In summer you can enjoy the fresh air and the views and
Chamois is an alpine village with the characteristic wooden and stone houses that characterize the Aosta Valley and is a true oasis of tranquility and peace, perfect in every season, with views that sweep over the Valtournenche mountains that dominate the landscape with truly breathtaking views.
In the hot season, however, you can walk the numerous paths and enjoy the freshness of the air and natural scenery of extraordinary beauty.
From Chamois it is then possible to climb towards Lake Lod which is located at 2,019 m (6,624 ft) at the foot of Mount Charvaz.
It is a small but beautiful natural alpine lake completely surrounded by an enchanted scenery, where you can relax peacefully thanks to special areas where you can stop and eat something. I had a great time there enjoying the tranquility and peace of this wonderful place.
Lake Lod can be reached in about forty minutes on foot from Chamois along a path that is not difficult but quite steep in the final part, or you can use the chairlift as I did only for the return, however.
The outward journey was very pleasant along this path that opened up to sensational views over the entire valley. It was really worth it!
From Lake Lod, then, it is possible to climb further through paths of varying difficulty or by chairlift and reach, for example, the enchanting Sanctuary of Clavalitè at over 2,500 m of altitude (8,202 ft). I promised myself to come back and try to reach it!
I must say that I was absolutely delighted by this day spent in Valtournanche, in the wonderful Valle d'Aosta Region.
If you are in these parts, you cannot miss a visit to these splendid places!
