Friends, with this video I will take you once again to Valle d'Aosta, in the North West of Italy and precisely to Arvier, an extended town, with several hamlets at 776 m of altitude (2545 ft) located in a natural basin at the entrance to the beautiful Valgrisenche, which has been known since Roman times, when it was used by the Roman militias as a camp along the Via Gallia.
Here the red wine Enfer d'Arvier is produced, one of the first in the Region to become D.O.C., a denomination which certifies the high quality of Italian products.
The medieval fabric of the central village is still present and one of the major attractions, clearly visible from all sides, is the beautiful Romanesque bell tower of the Church of San Sulpizio, which stands out in all its height.
Another extraordinary site to visit is the Castle of La Mothe, with its characteristic square tower of which suggestive ruins remain and whose roof has been recently restored.
The Castle is located in a dominant position, near the Church and from there you can enjoy an absolutely enchanting landscape that also embraces the terraced vineyards of the area.
Another Castle, that of Montmayeur not far away, is part of this extraordinary village and can be reached by a trail in the nature, but unfortunately I did not have enough time to go there, even if I plan to do so.
Arvier is not only known for its treasures of the past but also for being one of the Italian municipalities that is part of the BIG BENCH COMMUNITY PROJECT, a non-profit initiative born from an idea of the American designer Chris Bangle and his wife Catherine, citizens di Clavesana, a municipality in Piedmont, which combines creativity with the desire to support local communities and the excellence of Italian municipalities.
A symbol of relaxation and sharing, like a bench, but giant, positioned in suggestive places with breathtaking scenery. A decidedly winning and perfect idea!
A common object that becomes iconic and that can in a certain sense make us children again and allow us to enjoy the beauty of nature in all its facets with different eyes.
The Big Benches are always positioned in places of great beauty and often in dominant positions, from where you can admire an extraordinary landscape and which can be accessed with a wonderful walk in nature. They are all brightly colored, sometimes two-tone and all are marked with a sequential number.
The Project has taken hold so much that from Piedmont, the Region in which the Big Benches were born, it is extending to a large part of Italy and there are also requests from abroad. A Big Bench is also found in Sweden.
If desired, a "passport" can be purchased from each municipality to be stamped as a certificate of visit to the Big Bench. Many fans, in fact, want to see them all and are real collectors discovering the Big Benches.
In this video you can also admire the suggestive village of St. Nicolas, positioned on a natural balcony from which you can enjoy an absolutely extraordinary scenery of the Alps.
I wanted to go there, driven by curiosity, because just during the climb towards the Big Bench, from a certain point onwards you could see on the left of the opposite mountain ridge a church that seemed to be almost suspended.
From there, the desire to discover this other wonderful corner of the Aosta Valley.

@@renatalimarzi Buongiorno Renata, sì, il caro tempo - corre e a volte ho la sensazione che l'orologio rotoli sempre di più ogni anno. Ma almeno si spera che sarà un po' più tranquillo per me da maggio in poi. Poi lavorerò part-time, il che significa che lavorerò solo all'80% e spero di avere più tempo per i miei hobby.
La Valle d'Aosta è rimasta per me un ricordo piacevole, e questo è in realtà molto semplice. Per prima cosa, il paesaggio è naturalmente bello. Ma non era solo questo per noi. Nel primo anno del nostro pellegrinaggio, abbiamo camminato da Losanna ad Aosta. La prima volta che abbiamo attraversato le Alpi a piedi è stato incredibilmente eccitante ed emozionante. Nel secondo anno, da Aosta, la grande paura che tutto andasse bene non c'era più. Eravamo completamente rilassati e ci siamo davvero goduti la passeggiata.
Guten Morgen Renata, ja die liebe Zeit - sie rennt und manchmal habe ich das Gefühl, die Uhr überschlägt sich jedes Jahr mehr. Aber immerhin wird es ab Mai bei mir hoffentlich ein wenig ruhiger. Dann arbeite ich in Altersteilzeit, das Heißt, ich arbeite nur noch 80 % und hoffe ich finde dann mehr Zeit für meine Hobbys.
Das Aostatal ist mir tatsächlich in angenehmer Erinnerung geblieben und das ist eigentlich ganz einfach. Zum einen ist es natürlich landschaftlich wunderschön. Aber das war es nicht alleine für uns. Im ersten Jahr unserer Pilgerreise sind wir ja von Lausanne nach Aosta gelaufen. Das erste mal zu Fuß über die Alpen, dass war alles unheimlich spannend und aufregend. Im 2, Jahr dann ab Aosta, war die ganz große Angst, ob denn auch alles gut geht, nicht mehr da. Wir sind völlig entspannt gelaufen und haben den Weg richtig genießen können.

@@renatalimarzi L'hai detto Renata, era ed è un sogno. Soprattutto perché, come cittadino della DDR, non ho mai sognato di vivere realmente una cosa del genere. Mettere piede in cima al Col du Grand Saint-Bernard dalla Svizzera all'Italia - è stata un'esperienza follemente emozionante. La strada dalla cima ad Aosta, semplicemente folle (in senso positivo), tutto sembrava esattamente come l'avevo visto nei film italiani in passato e improvvisamente ci siamo trovati noi stessi nel mezzo.

Ciao bella Renata! Che viaggio meraviglioso ci hai regalato e che scrigno di tesori è la Valle d'Aosta! Tanta bellezza e tante meraviglie da esplorare in questa splendida regione. Il tuo meraviglioso film ha portato un incantesimo di pace tanto necessario mentre viaggiavamo con te.
La salita è stata molto eccitante: quegli stretti sentieri aggrappati al fianco della montagna. I panorami erano spettacolari fino alla panchina gigante! Che meraviglia stare lì seduti a godersi quell'anello di cime e anche il Monte Bianco!
Vedere tutti i paesini di montagna è stato così incantevole! Questa passeggiata ha offerto così tante viste spettacolari dal balcone del Belvedere, castelli e torri storici e architettura dall'epoca romana attraverso il Medioevo fino ai giorni nostri. Mi è piaciuta molto la tua esplorazione del borgo medievale di Arvier, assolutamente affascinante! Avrei potuto trascorrere un'intera giornata lì! Sei una regista meravigliosa Renata, sai esattamente cosa vuole lo spettatore. Bella musica allegra anche. Brava mia carissima Renata e non vedo l'ora che arrivi il prossimo film. The views from the path were quite breathtaking, and from the bench awesome views of Mount Blanc and the peaks. The bench itself looks huge. The castle ruins are awesome, such a great place to explore, and the beautiful villages with their own spectacular views.
