The most lovely episode. Alan Ludden and Betty White had just been married. To see this icon....decades before she really hit it huge...she was astounding...and sweet. Alan was young, engaging but proper and professional....and had the some of the elegant banter of What's My Line. What a great era for early television.
Betty White *did* play very well. She gave good clues and the partner gave good responses. It's refreshing also, to have all the people playing, be tuned into what the other side is guessing.
I don't what you guys are complaining about with Jack Paar! I might've complained about him too on other episodes, I don't remember, but on THIS episode, I saw absolutely NOTHING wrong with him!
Kinda...I was living in Irvington, NJ (30mins from Manhattan NYC) about 20 years ago and one summer stopped in a local park to catch a free jazz concert. To my surprise, there was Joe Morello playing drums in one of the groups. Come to find out he was living right in town...never knew it. Don't think he ever moved.

His replacement on 'Tonight', Johnny Carson was no better on Password and certainly had no less an ego, but more living today saw Carson nightly, so saw other redeeming qualities...Paar, they didn't see much, if at all. Reading about it and living thru it isn't the same. 'Tonight' inventor Steve Allen had high praise for Paar. Not apologizing for his performance here - many of the stars, especially comedians and talk show folks talk and wisecrack too much on this show because they are so use to 'performing' when the camera's on, instead of simply concentrating on the game. The best Password shows are when the chatter, wisecracks, and tangents are minimal.

wow, Sondheim on Password? with Lee, no less....had to be somewhere between March-April 1964 while 'Anyone Can Whistle' was in production.
