This was my first time viewing one of your videos. You were very patient and clear with the instructions which I, as a non expert, really benefited from. Thank you.
I am a craft sewer and I really appreciate you giving the exact stitch settings. It was very helpful to me. Thank you for an excellent easy to see and easy to understand tutorial!
Thanks for your time in making this video. I improvised a little by adding another inch to the top and instead of cutting off the extra portion of the tie I left it, split it and let it hang. I had some left over fleece from a pillow project I had no idea what I was going to do with. You saved the day! I am taking the hats to a local nursing home. They have a "Santa Store" this week for residents. Items are donated by members of staff and the local community. The staff prints up Santa Bucks which are distributed to the residents. Then they can "purchase" presents for family and friends. Volunteers and staff wrap their purchases. It is one of the highlights of the season. They love being able to give someone a gift!
I've been making winter hats for the my neighbor that works at our local food bank. She goes up into the rural areas where those that live off grid with toiletries, food, and clothes. Since I have lots of fleece I've been making hats and scarf's. I have 3 different patterns I've found online. Tonight I was looking for "how to make fleece boot liners" and came across your video. I will now add it in the rotation to make for the homeless. Thank you.
Thanks! I have been crocheting hats and scarves for the homeless, but I could certainly produce more with your method. I was gifted a huge piece of fleece from a woman who was pairing down her stash of fabrics, so I am so grateful I came across your video!
I remember a local school received hundreds of fleece tubes ,sewn on the one side and about 12-18” long each, in assorted colors quite a few years ago. The kids all made hats or neck warmers from these fleece tubes. They used thick elastic bands to gather the top up once it was fringed. Then all the kids gathered for a roof top photo taken at the school, with everyone happily wearing their “ creation”. What a nice reminder to see this simple video.
Wow! I loom knitted a bunch of hats for the preemies at the hospital, and it took forever. But the bigger kids in the cancer ward need hats, too. This is just the ticket, and with fleece on sale today, I can make a bunch of hats pretty quickly for these kids. Thanks for the great video, you did a great job of describing everything! Kudos :)
Came across on interesting things to learn to sew Boy you nailed it.... going to make some for the homeless around town and pick up some of the after Christmas $1-$2 fabric glove Thank you for the tutorial and amazing idea!!!!
Thank you so much! This is just the project I was looking for. Your directions are fantastic! I'm making them for my extended family for 'stocking stuffers'. I love the poof at the top.
I really enjoyed your video. I do make hats for the homeless and veterans. And you are so right about them loving something warm for their head. They also appreciate a handmade gift.
Thank you so much. I'm a newbie when it comes to sewing. I need easy things. My special needs son loves hats. I plan to make him a whole collection following your guide. I have some clips coming in the mail tomorrow! I have a feeling that once I make a few that I'll get addicted and make them for lots of people!
I live in Scotland and I think we may have a rather cold winter - this hat would be ideal. In fact maybe two hats would be even better, and for friends. Thank you. I love how you explain things as you are easy to understand. Brilliant channel.
I don't have a sewing machine or know how to use one. I would have to hand stitch each hat, but it'll still be doable for me to make for my daughter's family. Thank You for this tutorial, and God Bless you and your family!
This is great, thanks. I always like to use up my fleece and these little hats would be a good project for the leftovers from some scarves I am making. Thanks for sharing your sewing goodness.
I made 50 of these in just a few days, for a local school where a number of kiddos had need. I mainly used fabric from the remnants bin. It's nice to use patterns that can be worn by anyone. Animal prints are always fun for both boys and girls.
What measurements should i use for kids? I might make some with all my fleece. TIP, fleece Is treated with formaldehyde. My daughter woke up on Dec. 26 on year and her hands were beet red from her new mittens. Of course, she wore them to bed! Doc said she had a reaction to that.
This simply done pattern can be done with old leggings and other stretchy clothing that just needs rolled up and tacked, and gather up/tie the top head piece like he did! These are great thanks!
I just made my first hat-thanks for a great tutorial, I did cut the strips a bit more, turned out great, but I think I should have used a zig- zag around the band to allow some stretch!
Virginia, if you look closely, he used a ziz-zag stitch around the band, but goofed on his wording. That's easy to do when you make one of these videos.
Thanks! Just saw some of these for babies in a sewing machine shop and thought they were so cute! Since we are expecting to become grandparents for the first time, I really wanted to make these but wasn’t sure how to do it. Now I know! The ones I saw weren’t cut at the top, just gathered. I like them both ways as they do look different, but your pompom top is adorable. Also like the idea of matching hats for parents and kids. Really enjoyed your tutorial. Will look for others by you.
Thank you. This is something I stumbled across will searching. This Is perfect for my left over fleece. Thank you for taking the time to post this. From Maine
This is the cutest hat! I have had so many compliments! My only suggestion is to please make sure your plaids line up. Your finished project will look so much nicer and professional. Happy sewing!
I just had an idea I’m going to make this had with this super soft material I was going to make a bathrobe with. This will be so cool. Sewing The Dream.
Awesome tutorial! I enjoyed the upbeat tone of your voice and the hats are precious. Great idea to hand out randomly to homeless. I think I will try doubling the thickness of bottom half? Thank you:)
OMGoodness. You are in Omaha? I'm in Council Bluffs. How amazing is that!!! I never run into anyone from around here. I make vintage Junk Journals & Embellishments. Now, after 3 years of that, I'm going to open an Etsy Store and make some UA-cam videos showing what I make (FINALLY) lol. These are the cutest hats. I have some fleece and I think I'm going to give it a go. TFS, Toodles
This is so great. Christmas is tight this year, but I have some fleece. I am going to make a couple for my kids to help the gifts stretch a little. I'm also knitting, but that takes a while. I think I have enough fabric to make some for the grown ups in the family also and how cute will it be to have matching family hats.
